OK real football as:

The World cup.
The European cup.
It as many other international championships, i.e. European cup final, the UEFA championship.
It has spurned such greats such as Brazil, Germany and loathed to admit it Argentina.
Real football is global and recognised as a true sporting championship.

American football........sorry can anybody explain the rules?

Real Football ftw. Cardiff City for Championship promotion!!

American footall. Real football is too boring.

Any baxter, American Football, for the teams is all about going to the superbowl. For the players, it's all about the pro bowl.

American Football can be awesome to watch, i like watching someone guard a ball carrier all the way to a touchdown.
Problem is, you gotta wait 3 hours to see it, with all the stops and starts.
Soccer for me has lost its appeal because it has become a game of 'how well you can fall and make it look good' in order to get a penalty. Seriously, some of those guys should have Oscars.

Rugby Union for teh win- action packed, no pussy shoulder padding, 90 mins of all the tactics, speed and physical contact you'd want- real men playing a real sport.

Hahaha, canada doesn't have any sports

That's because you live in Californa and you don't get to see the excellent football Canada plays. It's more challenging then the american football. It's also extremely fun to watch. Actually Canada invented 2 of the most popular sports in North America:

Hockey,

Basketball.

EDIT: In basketball we made a net so you didn't have to get a ladder and get the ball out of the basket. LOL. So we never really did invent basketball, we just made it better.

Real Football > Canadian Football > Hockey > Baseball > Hopscotch > Smallpox > American Football.

There. Solved it, guys. You'll thank me later.

I'm not biased. I can watch both as long as the game is exciting.

Football > Basketball > NASCAR > Baseball > Golf > Soccer > Tennis

That's actually a real listing of my faves (To watch, I'd much rather golf than play baseball or drive a car itself as far as playing and such goes, though)

Baseball > Hockey > Football

I won't watch anything else.

Mostly Americans will say American football, and most other people will say Real football, its mainly a case of where you grew up and what you grew up playing and watching. Like i've never seen ppl playing american football over here, they don't televise it or anything. And, excuse my limited football knowledge (not everyone in britain follows it :)) but as far as im aware americans never cottoned onto how to play footy properly. Or soccer, or whatever you guys branded it as to claim it as your own :)

Ooo, controversial. I'm gonna hide under this table right here now...

Well most people here know the basics of soccer and could play if put in a game, it's just not as popular. Most schools have a soccer team/leagues, but football is generally the priority #1 sport as far as for school spirit (high school and college) and regions/states for the pros.

For most folks here soccer/European Football just doesn't cut it as far as the hits an action. It's a good sport, but you really can't beat slamming someone mid air and downing them, a good hard tackle full speed and a gloriously timed/executed block. Those are the things that make football so exciting here.

Basketball ftw, then American football, then I don't care.
Although, I think that America was pretty stupid for calling "real football" soccer. It just makes so much more sense. In A. football, the only time the ball comes in contact with the foot is a kickoff, punt, or fieldgoal/point-after attempt. But, just like measurements, we have to have our own way of doing things, or it's "inefficient".

Eh... I think it had more to do with the way things morphed throughout the time, rather than just calling it football out of spite and purposely in contradiction. Remember, there wasn't always the ease of information sharing and quick communication overseas like we have now. Even with ships continously going back and forth, and even up to the time of telegraphs cross continental, there still was a big isolation, so the meaning evolved.

F1 > all

american football is boring, if you want proof watch ANY football movie. Every play you see in the movie is basically a play that would only happen once out of 500 games in real life. Why? Because people wish that's how football really was! And because nobody wants to watch the other 499 plays because its bloody boring!

Eh... I was joking for the most part. I realize that communication was horrible compared to what we have now. I just decided to poke fun at ourselves.

Look, you can call it "football", and we'll stick with soccer. And the term "soccer" is more correct, simply due to the fact that the USA can kick your sorry country's ass. :sniper:

Well I like american football more than european football/soccar...because I know how to play it lol.. like last month when I made that hail mary (ok that was a little exagerated, more like just a good pass that helped us a lot lol) pass across the field...when I played "soccar" I missed the goal like 8 feet away. :(

something that americans should understand is that soccer is the sport who should be called football cuz they use more the feets that the american football

I read someplace that a reason of why the soccer is called soccer is cuz the players use sock...wtf? them the american football should be called helmer cuz the playes use helmets

Q: Whats the hardest part about playing soccer?

Telling your parents you're gay.

But in soccer, everyone wins! yay!!!

Soccer players are such pussies. It ruins the game when those panzies jump on the ground after being touched and cry for 10 minutes then the offender who didn't even touch him according to the replay gets red carded, the victim gets a penalty goal the and game is over.

You mean you actually watch that shit?

I only watch the world cup.

And the atmosphere at games is absolutely awesome. I went to the Iran vs Australia qualifier at the MCG (big ground) 80,000+ people, lots of energy. Iran won...sucks..

But i follow yet another type of football. Aussie rules football ftw.

i enjoy american football because there is a lot of strategy involved, calling good, well-timed plays, countering offensive plays with good defense(BLITZ!). madden games are hella fun to play competitively with friends. but if it were me playing in real life, id rather play english football.

Real football ftw!

Last night's friendly games were awesome! Good performance from the Scots, I'm well chuffed.

Not that I don't try and watch American football, there are just too many stoppages between the actual playing. :|
