Red Dead Redemption Official Thread

Just came back from midnight release sale. Bought this along with Alan Wake LE.

this game is awesome. its a shame I'm really tired and need a break. I drank like 50 oz of Caffeine today just to keep moving at work. I think I'm gunna crash in a few hours. I played multiplayer and only leveled up to lvl 3 but its really a blast. the single-player is draw dropping. Just as good as the first time you play Oblivion!
 
Apparently, my local Wal-mart didn't get any copies shipped to it today, for the midnight release. That's what I get for not pre-ordering at Gamestop.

EDIT: Can someone describe the horses...slowly?

we both know that GTAIV wasn't all that.
It didn't deserve the high scores it got.
neither does this game I reckon,but I'm still be getting ,but at least I don't run the risk of being sorely disappointed.
 
Well its one of only a handful of games in history that has recieved a 10/10 rating.

Look at metacritic. GTA 4 and Metal Gear Solid 4.

But obviously, thats only if you care about reviews.

So how many people here have it? Curious about one thing: should I start on hardcore mode (or whatever it's called), and is the free aim reliable enough to do so comfortably? I turned off auto-aim like 10 minutes into GTA IV and didn't have any problems, but that didn't involve shooting from horseback so...
 
It's out for delivery as of... 9 minutes ago.

I'm going to turn it on... The autoaim looks to be way too easy and I want myself a challenge, even if the game is frustrating at times. It'll give me practice for multi-player for servers that use those settings.
 
Can't wait to pick up my copy after work today and play for a few hours tonight. Everyone seems to think this game is really terrific which is certainly positive news. Somehow I have to temper my excitement for another 9 hours or so...:(
 
Thats weird, Play.com have it listed as in stock and dispatching within 24 hours and its the 18th, release date is friday the 21st.

Day early delivery perhaps?

Never had one of those, would be nice to get it tomorrow though Im not holding my breath.

Whats even more weird is how Amazon have their PS3 version as being £7 more than their 360 version, dont usually do that.

Yeah, don't hold your breath. Often, at least for me, they'll have it delivered to the delivery warehouse extra early and then simply won't take it out for delivery until the day it's required to be delivered.
 
Stayed up until gd 4am with my friends just messing around in free roam which is only a slice of the pie....needless to say this game is fun as hell!
 
I'm half tempted to ask you guys what all isn't included in multiplayer free roam... but then again, I guess it's best to be disappointed first hand, huh?

I'm going into free roam expecting there being nothing to do except hunt animals, mess with the AI in fairly non interactive ways, and play the competitive modes. No horse shoes, no poker, none of the other stuff that really would have made it stand out.

free roam was fun for me but there were only 2-3 people in each server area it seemed. so far i'm enjoying the story mode, its very rich and highly polished. also i noticed it runs smoother than GTA
 
My game! My game just arrived and it's only barely past noon! This is awesome!

Man... my case is cracked. Good thing the game cd itself isn't cracked.

The shipping package looked like it got impaled with something... a hole in part of it and the crack in the game case.

Man I dodged a bullet that the game dvd itself isn't cracked.

I don't get home from work and plasma donation until like... 1:00 Central US time... but yeah I'll play with you. I also won't be here on Saturday but will instead be over at my Uncle's. We've had to put off my birthday celebration for a couple weeks due to schedules not aligning.

But I'm going to be doing not much else other than playing this game, either singleplayer or multiplayer.

And my new monitor comes tomorrow... WOOT! My first LCD ever. I hope it doesn't have any dead pixels!
 
I hope the servers aren't region locked, like they are in some games.. Hopefully it'll be here before I get home. Release-day delivery.. hmh.
 
So is this the same kind of snoozefest Farcry 2 was?
 
More chance it'll be the snoozefest that was GTA4, surely?

I suspect neither - it looks fantastic :)
 
Most sandbox FPS games are yawn-tastic, I've seen nothing to indicate that RDR will be an exception.
 
Ah I thought it was TPS/FPS choice like Fallout 3. Both types of sandbox game are pretty similar regardless in terms of their dullness.

Guys, Eejit doesn't like sandbox games, they must be super terrible.
 
Fallout 3 was alright actually, but the rest are poop. I was inquiring as to whether this one is any different from the norm.

That's good. I like that they are available, I just don't ever want to use them.
