A very touchy subject to be picked today, religon.

My thoughts on Religon such as Christianity. Yes i belive there was a man called jesus who lived in Nazareth and preformed miricles but not in the way the bible makes it out , and god is just another story in my eyes.

What are your thoughts?

We haven't had one of these in a while, have we?

Anyways, Religion was created by man, I don't trust it, or believe in it.

But I respect people who are Religious or Spiritual as long as they are moderate and open in their beliefs and blah blah blahhhh you get the point.

BUT to quote Andrew Ryan
-

"Even in a book of lies, you sometimes find truth.."

The man had a point.

how is religon formed?
how mary get pragnent?

What next a 'Should my girlfriend get an abortion?' Yes/no poll

Personal belief is personal choice. If people want to personally believe in Jesus, the Jedi Council or the spaghetti monster that is their decision at the end of the day.

Sry, most people on this forum admits to the fact that they have no clue about how everything was created, we just accept that we simply dont know and that no one else knows, we dont make up false answers such as GOD to answer that question, we just say "hey, no one really knows, so why pretend we know when we dont?"

Stop lying to yourself. God is just a fake answer you have accepted just for the sake of having an answer to the creation question. Im not going to debate this, im sure any agnostic/atheist on this forum can demolish religion better than i can.

EDIT: btw, in my religion, we believe that a cat named Mongushu ate a tuna sandwish and pissed grape juice which then created everything we know off today. Where did this Mongushu cat came from? Who made the tuna sandwich from him? No one knows, but its in the Mongushu bible, which is the inspired word of Mongushu, therefore, IT MUST BE THE TRUTH!!! You CANT DENY THAT!! YOU ARE DELUSIONAL!!! ACCEPT MONGUSHU, ACCEPT THE TUNA SANDWICH, ACCEPT THE FACT THAT EVERYTHING IS MADE FROM GRAPE JUICE!!! HEATENNNNN

This is going to degenerate... no, wait. This has already degenerated.

I heard it was a sham, just a rumour though.

That's not what the thread title asked!

yes how is babby formed? AND WHO WAS PHONE????

agnostic 4 the time being.lol

This made me laugh. Also, you cant just be "agnostic" there is more to it.

theotherguy said:
THE QUESTION OF BELIEF IS BINARY
1. Theist- Holds a positive belief in a diety
2. Atheist- Does not

THE QUESTION OF KNOWLEDGE IS ALSO BINARY
1. Gnostic- Knows that there is/is not a god.
2. Agnostic- Does not know, or does not believe it is possible to know, if there is a god or gods.

AGNOSTICISM COMES IN MULTIPLE LEVELS
1. Weak Agnostic- Lacks knowledge of a god.
2. Strong Agnostic- Believes that it is impossible to know whether or not there is a god.

ATHEISM AND AGNOSTICISM ARE NOT MUTUALLY EXCLUSIVE
1. Knowledge and belief are independent.

THEREFORE YOU HAVE, WITH THESE TWO VARIABLES, THESE COMBINATIONS
1. Weak Agnostic Atheist- Lacks knowledge and belief in a god.
2. Strong Agnostic Atheist- Believes it is impossible to know there is a god, and lacks belief in that god.
3. Gnostic Atheist- Knows that there is no god and does not believe.
4. Weak Agnostic Theist- Lacks knowledge of a god, yet believes in a god on faith, without evidence.
5. Strong Agnostic Theist- Believes it is impossible to know whether or not there is a god, and believes that this god exists.
6. Gnostic Theist- Knows there is a god and believes.
7. Denying Atheist- Knows there is a god, yet does not believe.
8. Denying Theist- Knows there is no god, yet believes.

I do not believe in idols or worshiping any specific deity, but I do believe in the existence of something beyond us, something that explains us and our universe. I also believe in Karma, which is probably the most far fetched. Religion, despite telling us things that are far fetched and unproven, also give us good moral values if not pushed to an extreme level, or if we are level headed even to discern the bullshit from the useful knowledge.

Right now, religion has been hijacked for personal, monetary, social and political gains, so at the moment, we are better off without it.

Most religions seem to teach, in my opinion, pretty good philosophies about how to live one's life. Some of these come encumbered with dogma, and many of the followers seem to take the worst from the teachings, but whatever. The word of god (or whatever)? The only path to salvation? The answer to all one's prayers? Sham.

On a slightly related note, I thought about creating a classification system for religion much like the current classification system for life (kingdom, phylum, etc.), and using this to draw/label the evolution of religion from, well, wherever I think it starts from up to today's religious diversity. Maybe mark them with various levels of endangerment/extinction?

I'm a Christian evolutionist. Oh snap!

Quick, he didn't get the reference. Ostracize him!

Lol, yeah, we learned about those. I generally do not like them, I hate being defined by one of a group of specific definitions and being told I am one of them. It is just not that simple.

Yes, I'd agree with that. There are certain aspects and philosophies of various religions I can take from as being good ideals, and others not so much.

It's all about weeding out the good and the bad, I think people should do this with all philosophy and even literature, instead of deeming it all "bad" or all "good".

A perfect, all-knowing and all-powerful god logically does not make sense. How could an all-knowing god be so wrong in the bible. The earth is much older than he tells us, man wasn't poofed into existence, we evolved slowly over time(or rapidly depending on your scale of time). Also how could a perfect god be so wrong about Noah. How could he possibly think all of the animals in the whole world lived within walking distance of noahs house?

...well I don't want to go on a rant so I will stop myself right there.

Also youtube atheism and you will find more good videos about atheism. Or just buy the book The God Delusion by Richard Dawkins. Or watch the movie if your too lazy.

You can hate it all you want, but, as thotherguy said belief is binary, so its pretty damn simple.

Hell is probably four hundred different kinds of awesome.

Jesus existed for sure, but he was most likely just an ordinary guy, because haven't all those supposed miraculous deeds been explained with science and logic anyway? Back then people were just so uninformed that they didn't realise for example water can freeze and become thick enough to carry the weight of a man.

I think Jebus was a scammer anyway. Like what the hell is up with the trick he allegedly did with water and wine? I'm almost 100% certain that he just used the old "holy shit what's that behind you?!" trick (back then this was original and clever) and then quickly switched the water barrels to ones that contained wine.

And yeah about that dude called god... well, I'll remain sceptical untill someone succesfully proves with concrete evidence that this guy really exists. Guess that makes me an atheist then, but I don't really give a crap.

Just keep an eye out for that road paved with good intentions. Meet you on the far end.

Religion is bullshit made to control the masses and make idiots feel more comfortable.
