Revolution Controller UNVEILED!

NJSpeed's just given his honest opinion... and I know many people feel the same as him. I'm not going to jump on him for his opinion.

However... I'm going to pick up on a few points.

I checked out a few polls on the Revolution controller and it seems most people are turned off by it. Just google "revolution controller poll".

There is a very good reason why that poll means jack.

Basically, the people who enter such polls are not "most people". They're a select group of dedicated gamers, who spend their time looking at websites about games. These people will have grown up using conventional controller layouts.

You'll find that on a wider level, "most people" haven't entered that poll at all. Why? Because right now, "most people" are pointing their remote control at their TV, idly channel-hopping between football and Friends reruns.

Why? Because those people are not gamers. Yet.

...

And there's another reason why opinion polls are meaningless at this stage. Simply, the point of Nintendo's new controller is entirely invisible in screenshots. Even in that stupid promo video, the true essence of it isn't communicated. As far as I can tell, there's only two ways to really understand this new controller. Either a), spend several hours researching, reading impressions, reading technical descriptions and suchlike. Or b), spend ten seconds playing a game with it. The majority of poll voters, needless to say, will have done neither.

What gamers want ISNT new controllers, it's new games... with new and innovative gameplay, new characters, new enemies, and new styles of play..
Of course, people don't want a new controller. The man on the street doesn't think - "WOW, I'm going to buy that thing for its awesome remote control!!!"

What he does is this: he picks up the controller, and realises that he's playing a new game... with new and innovative gameplay... and new styles of play.

The controller alone does not create an exciting console. When looking at photos of a remote control, you're not going to feel the same excitement you get when looking at Gears of War shots. It will be down to the games to entice you in this way. However, the games spring directly from the control method. So although people don't "want" a new controller, they want what a new controller makes possible. You said it yourself.

If 3rd party developers start going with the revolution, the Revolution will also enter an American Focused Market with the Japanese Market.
Some will be forced to go with the Revolution. Do you think small companies have millions of dollars to spend making a game that looks like Gears of War? I don't think so.

It's only going to cost more as time goes on, so maybe that's good for Nintendo.

Listen to Noobulon, guys. He actually knows his stuff.

I think Noobulon is a public speaker. He put that really well...or a politican.

I'm not trying to compare quality here. I'm just stating an inarguable fact that if you were to select a console that places a sizable priority on younger audiences, you'd be choosing a Nintendo console. Let's face it. Mature titles aren't in abundance on their platforms and I can completely understand why that turns many folks away.
You may cry that such people are shallow sheep, but I argue that themes can make all the difference in the world when it comes to the experience you're feeling.
I understand why, and im kind of like that but unlike them I actually take a chance and play the games.
Not look at every Mario game that has come out and think, "Wow that game is for kids".
Try going back and playing Mario 64. I did and it was actually pretty damn fun. It was a very laid back kind of game. I could just sit back and let the time go by. Nintendo games are still fun, just many people don't give them a chance because....there to... "Mature" at least in North America...... Japan hasn't become so shallow.

What gamers want ISNT new controllers, it's new games... with new and innovative gameplay, new characters, new enemies, and new styles of play.
You stated the point! These new Controllers can create new and innovative gameplay.

Luckily not everyone on this planet is a pre-pubescent teenage boy that measures games strictly by the number of polygons they push.
luckily not everyone is a noob who misunderstands posts and doesnt realise that realistic ai and physics need as much processing power as they can get.
You might as well send Nintendo an email and tell them what their future holds. Your clairvoyance could probably save them a lot of wasted time and money.
i think you should email nintendo and youd better email [email protected] too, how did you know i was thinking about graphics?

#1 We don't know what hardware they are using
they said themselves they werent.
#2 Due to limitations on cost and development time most games are unlikely to take full advantage of PS3 or 360 hardware anyway meaning they won't look any better than Revolution counterparts assuming the Revolution is significantly weaker in the first place.
most console games dont take full advantage of the system. but i guarentee you they will look better if theres a significant difference in the capabilities of the consoles and not just because the graphics will be more detailed.
#3 Graphics wise we are reaching a point where the difference between "good" and "bad" is increasingly hard to tell. 35 times more powerful than the PS1 as Sony claims certainly doesn't translate into being that much better looking.
#4 If the 360 and PS3 ends up being extremelly difficult to develop for like many developers have already started saying and the Revolution is easier then I can't see how many developers will be willing to spend so much extra time and money taking advantage of the new hardware.
they will.
#5 Graphics truly aren't everything
im getting scared ;( my brain must be transmitting my thoughts. i think we should all email [email protected]. we could win the million :D
for the current generation the PS2 is the weakest hardware wise but obviously that didn't limit its capabilities of becoming the top seller.
it wasnt the weakest when it was released, long before the xbox and the gamecube.

Ummm... Microsoft and Sony lose money in their console divisions. Nintendo is the only one of the three that actually turns a profit (and a pretty big one) on just about every piece of gaming hardware and software they sell. Nintendo is a ****ing money-making machine. If you have a business... you dream of it having the efficiency of Nintendo. Sony is a behemoth compared to Nintendo, yet little Nintendo makes more money than all of Sony. They even make more than ABC, CBS, and NBC combined (last time I checked). They're not in any danger. They know exactly what they're doing.
i never said they were going into debt ffs.. i said, in other words, a lot of people will choose the other consoles over a revolution. was that so hard to understand?
