Should've got the Special Edition then :D
What?!

So I look up the goodies that came with the special edition and I see (let me know if I'm wrong or missing something):
Collectors case
bonus DVD
Survival guide book, "The Zone"
A zone map
download access to multiplayer goodies

Do these include instructions to the game that the standard version doesn't? What's in the book and on the map?

The book gives descriptions to all the weapons, all the creatures and the factions in the game. Also a bit of a diary sequence by the guy you play :D

Dammit, they didnt sell the collectors edition here in the US. What retarded SHIT!

darn, game keeps crashing on me when i go back to garbage from the agro research institute area, i tried a different save too :(

the only other save i have is the auto save from when i started the game :/

I too have the same issue of the game crashing to desktop because of a bug reported i think its my vista and 8800 gtx meh.

mm my copy arrived today .. been waiting on it for ages .. all excited and what not .. installed it .. found and downloaded the patch and installed that and it continously keeps crashing on me :( .. had a look around google seems as though a few people's keeps crashing, anyone have a suitable fix to this yet or do i have to wait for another patch :( ?

update your drivers

the game runs flawlessly for me, havent had a crash yet ..then again I'm only a few hours in as I restarted after the patch

oh and I screwed up the perfected suit quest ..I put it on and now it just says it's a bandit jacket instead of the perfected suit thingy ..my quest giver doesnt recognise it either ..oh well at least it's better armor than I had before

Aye i updated my drivers yesterday, catalyst 7.3 .. unless they've changed em already

The furthest I got before the patch was rescuing and getting the flash drive off of that guy in the barn then it'd crash .. so I got the patch and from then on I don't even get out of the starting area :(

I`m at x16. Played for probably 15-20 hours. Not one crash. Have not patched the game. I must be lucky lol... Btw the VSS Vintorez is so sweet :farmer:

I havent crashed once before or after the patch. The game doesnt seem to be that buggy at all... probably the normal issues with certain hardware configurations.

I haven't crashed once since I bought the game, my only issue is not being able to use dynamic lighting. I know my card isn't top notch but still. Otherwise the game is great.

They need to fix the dynamic lighting shit. I have a 7800GTX and it runs at 18-20 fps with dynamic lights on. This game is beautiful, but unoptimized to the point of retardation.

No crashes here either, but those rain/lightning glitches are bugging the SHAT outta me, they happen every time it starts to rain now, and the only fix to get rid of them is to save, exit to windows, restart the game and reload again. This is like every 5-10 minutes. Literally. Sloooow going.

So i'm guessing i should wait for some patches then?

i got
Geforce 7600 GT KO
1.25 Gb of ddr 400 ram
3500+ AMD
yes, no, maybe?

Apparently editing your shortcut with the -noprefetch command at the end of the target sorts out issues with stuttering, load times and general performance. Something to do with a really shitty way the game prefetches (whatever that is).

wow. . that's weird. . and doesnt speak well for the coding team.

Everything else in the game is amazing though which does speak well for the coding team. And turning off prefetching didnt noticeably boost my performance, so its not like it was some terribly poor coded part.

Patch, and turn down the resolution a bit. I was getting like 15 fps at 1600x1200 with object-only lighting, and now I'm running at 1280x960 with 2x AA and full dynamic lighting, and I'm getting a consistent 30-40 FPS. And this is on an X800 XT, I shit you not.

EDIT: ooh, even though it's playing well, I'm still gonna go try that noprefetch thing.

I think i'll try that prefetch command in a bit .. in the mean time i emailed their support and got quite a quick reply asking me to give em certain details etc .. just gotta wait for another back now

I can't say I noticed much difference in fps with the prefetch thing. Load times are much quicker though, and think there's generally less stuttering than before for me at least.

Out of curiosity .. who is playing with full dynamic lighting as i'm not sure if that could be causing my crashes ? .. it's just tried it with Static lighting which although is horrible as f*ck seemed to perform amazingly well with no crashes at all :/

** Edit **

Nevermind, after researching a bit further it seems as though anyone with an x1900 or x1950 is experiencing problems and most of it is down to the lighting settings .. guess i've gotta wait for a patch for it to look pretty :<

** Further Edit .. Wahey **

Finally got around to playing it with the static lighting .. am amazed and loving it :D

I have an X1800XT and i run with dynamic lighting, and the game crashes every 10 minutes or so, however, with gpu reset on the gpu just resets itself, which takes 10-15 secs or so and allows me to carry on. So whilst annoying, not too much of a problem.

Full dynamic here too. Up until now, zero crashes. As soon as I entered Pripyat, crash to desktop every 15 minutes - half hour. Usually in the middle of a firefight when a lot is being rendered.

I have had few issues with Stalker.

Right now the only thing really upsetting me is there is no true Widescreen ratio. When you try to play widescreen in Stalker the engine just cuts out a widescreen ratio from the regular 4x3 image. Which means- when playing in widescreen you actually see LESS!

There is a 3rd party fix for this but it does not work if you have installed the patch (like I did).

So I am back to square one.

Im not really having many problems with hardware, im having problems with the game haha. Hardest game Ive ever played thats for sure.

I just finished this game. Worst game I have ever played. Save your money, this terrible piece of garbage shouldn't even bothered with.

I disagree, but you're entitled to your opinion.

I was skeptic of the game at first too, but I've learned to love it. With school I only play an hour here and there but it's still pretty damn fun.

I beat it, not worth playing after entering x16 though. Only thing that made me keep going is the environment, it is pretty nice.

Yea thats about all the game has. Combat is awful, story sucks.

I'm with them too, the combat is fun, the mutants are awesome, the game ****s with your mind which I can appreciate.
Just ran into my first pack of psychic dogs. I ended the fight by climbing up onto a rock and hiding by the cliff wall where they couldn't see me.

The game is really good in my opinion, not the best ever, but i honestly haven't seen this much atmosphere in a game since outcast. Everytime I load up my game everything else disappears and I really am in the zone.

My personal opinion of this game is that it is fantastic. I have not enjoyed myself nor found myself so engrossed in a game for quite a while. The atmosphere is top notch, i really believe i am in the post-apocalyptic environment that they have tried to create. The combat is solid, weapons varied, each with their own pros and cons and the game world is beautiful without needing to rely on next gen "zomg" graphics.
