S.t.a.l.k.e.r.

It's been officially declared by devs since yesterday that the game will not support Vista, atleast not as of now.

Btw, new patch should be out today.

The game is running bugless and at a decent framerate for me, sans the pause-loading.

However, I just can't get into the game. I played through one mission while trying to do another, but I can't even find Nimble or whatever (the very first mission). Then I found myself at the end of the level somehow, so I went to level two and did a few missions killing bandits, but then I accidently shot at one of my "Lone" friends and I hadn't saved the game for a while, and now I'm enemies with my friends and mission-givers.

I just don't know what the hell to do. I need a strategy guide or something I think, because as I said, I technically never did the first mission; I couldn't even find the guy I needed to find for the FIRST MISSION. Parking area accross the road? Yea, that helps a lot, since all I saw was woods accross ANY road I could find. You can't give a first mission such vague details like that, when the user has no god damn idea of anything inside the game at this point. Accross the road could mean so many things, and a "parking area" or whatever could also mean any area in which there are cars (there's a lot).

I think the developers were trying to create a game which had very little linearity, but what they created was a retarded flow to the story / missions in my opinion. Some linearity isn't necessarily a bad thing, christ.

Don't get me wrong, I am somewhat enjoying the game so far, but I am still very frustrated in general about the flow this game has. The gameplay doesn't seem all bad though, and the general concept of it is great. I knew it had a great concept from the first time I saw this game four years ago; I still have the E3 2003 videos on my computer

here you go, Stalker Walkthrough:

Core407, if you'd actually read the topic, you'd note that it has been linked twice, btw, it's fairly unlikely there will be a PS3 vers, if anything, they've only talked about a possible port to a MS console, and GSC are already busy doing STALKER 2 on the X-Ray Engine v2.0..

And Stigmata, yes the game is fun as hell, but I can't get over the cheating AI :\ It's just such a huge dissappointment considering the entire selling point of stalker was the AI.>_<

Why wouldn't there be a PS3 version.

Because GSC doesn't want the inflated costs associated with developing a title for more than one platform, not to mention the fact that there might be too many controls to map to a gamepad successfully, as well as the fact that the PS3 userbase is small, which would lead to a near-zero (if not negative) profit margin on the PS3 release.

god this game makes me appreciate HL2 and other FPS games so much more.

The crashing, random graphical glitches, and CONSTANT pause-loading is just...

Did you just skip the part where you are TOLD how to use the PDA and your MAP?

btw my game has started crashing badly as of today, no system changes at all it just started to crash like crazy after a few minutes of play.

...if you open the PDA there's a list of missions, and you click off the right of one of them, and it'll set a marker on your map. Then on your mini map there will be arrow telling you where to go, and how many meters it is to that place. Then when you get close the thing will glow green on your mini map...where's the confusion?

question ...why does the military want me dead? as soon as they see me they open fire ..is this normal? I've only completed the first mission. plus one side mission ..I've only killed bandits up to this point so why do they want me dead? damn them all to hell

Yea I think I did. My problem was I made a mistake; I said "no I don't want to help you" by accident to finding Nimble and thus screwed me completely. After I selected that I did want to help, everything went fine.

The glitches / pause-loading / slowdown is still...:hmph:

Me too. Have you gone through the sewers yet? I came up through the sewers just a few minutes ago after battling them all throughout the sewers (they're tough) and I don't know how I'm going to get past this part. I'm taking a break for food now.

Stalkers aren't legally supposed to be in the Zone.

It's normal.

If you're anywhere that isn't the Cordon, then you're on restricted grounds. Have you bribed the guards yet to go and find Strelok?

Oh god dammit I figured I wouldn't bother with half of those side quests and just witnessed the crappy ending. Back trail my way from the power plant to find those damn docs and decoder thingo. Bah

Meanwhile all the fireworks going on whilst entering the plant where awesome.

I killed all the Army guys at the train bridge :D

Got the special edition, not looked at the Bonus DVD yet, maybe soon.

Had no problems yet, but only played about an hour!

So this game has like 7 endings, watching a few on youtube as I don't have a save feasible of getting two of them.

Gotta say this game is a surprise for me, was expecting a buggy, nasty looking pile of poo, but i'm quite impressed. No bugs or crashes yet and it's just starting to get dark, the only gripe really is the impossible framerate hit from dynamic lighting. 70+ fps on static lighting, 3 fps on dynamic objects? something not quite right there. Patch pls k thx.

Damn meeting my first mutant scared me shitless.. I was exploring an underground facility really slowly. Flashlight on and inching my way forward and around corners. I was expecting a mutant to be around somewhere, because the atmosphere was really creepy. When I got near the artifact on a ledge it happened. I picked up the artifact, heard a mild rowr, heard footsteps approaching me, but I saw nothing! Then FLASH it appeared in front of me, slashing my face. In panic I emptied my AKm clip into him, killing him with the last bullet. My heart pounding, catching my breath... Damn was I scared.

Love it.

Btw, this fix worked greatly for me. Maxed out settings easily.

got it today too. after tweaking settings for quite awhile i settled with the games autodetect of high for my rig, this meant static lighting, it ran really well so i decided i'd try dynamic lighting on objects only and reduced texture to medium(half way on the slider), performance hit was pretty severe but i played on...

i was reading the bbc's ceefax/teletext gamepage which had a feature on stalker, i'd haveto agree with the editor of the page, the game lacks ''polish'', is ''rough'' and ''awkward'' but it really has an amazing atmosphere, its like nothing i've really experienced, the world feels alive, feels real...

no ctds/bugs as of yet :)

i used this too but it just dropped the settings to directx8, static lighting, no shadows, did i miss something or is the tweak just that?

I'd have to say yes tbh, wait for the first two-three patches.

I've only seen 3 of the 5 false endings, anyone got a link to all 5? (I've seen the true endings)

ok, ive started playing it on minimum settings and this bug totally ruined it for me, basically i've managed to go really deep into the zone, kill stuff, make money (2000 RU from one single mission for instance) all on the basic armor i started with and some SMGs i stole, and now when i try to go back to Cordon (because i realise it's way too hard for me running closer to the city with the bar etc) i can't go back because there's too much ****ing radiation, which wasn't there when i first got there! wtf.....

K, so I have both the SMG that looks like an MP5, and the souped up AKM that you find in Streloks hideout (the one with the upped firing rate).

Can't tell which to sell just now. The AKM has all higher stats except for handling, which is true. I can fire in larger bursts with the MP5 without losing as much accuracy (even though its overall accuracy rating is WAY lower than the AKM).

Been carrying around both lately, but feel like I should ditch one, as they both kinda do the same thing. Can't decide which though :(

Bah, considering that the Hitman: Blood Money and the Just Cause demos are horribly laggy on my system, even at lowest settings... -_-

I saw a box at the store the other day, and it says the game takes TEN GIGS?!
What the ****?

It doesn't even look like, from what I've read so far, that it has that much to offer.
Shit, Oblivion's a bigger game in terms of scale and it's only 4 gigs.

Something doesn't seem right to me.

It's only about 5 gigs installed.

I spose it uses the other 5 for unpacking files or something : /

@ Warbie: Yeah, the firefights are really tense. Great game, just seems to get buggy when it wants to.

is it just me or is hitting incredibly impossible?

Watch these (just made em). Wait for the file info to load and click the download link. Ignore the preview.

I find it easy to hit people, the ony reason that npc dident die is because hes part of the military, they have very strong armor, but you DID hit him.
Over all,I found the gun play to be realistic,it just takes awhile to lean how to use the guns properly and to use cover properly.flanking your enemy is a must in this game.

body armor in this game is a little too tough, you have to get head shots, or it takes nearly a clip

Alrighty, I caved in and just went back to the store and bought it.
Installing right now.

Has the patch been released yet?

I like the fact that GSC have decided to include realistic ballistic, it has just made it harder for bandits to actually hit me, even if I am outnumbered 10:1 :D

Well...I noticed some zombie's would walk up walls (like the outside of the building) when I was on the roof...

and the f****** walk through gave away the ending without any warning!! It was in the f*****ing caption to a picture!

Does anyone know anything about the grounds North of The Bar?

I decided to venture up there and received a mission from The Duty which proved to be extremely tough. I'm not quite sure if it was just because my armor was too weak for it or not. It's more than likely a mission which is designed to for someone who is further in the game than I currently am (just arrived at The Bar for the first time).

By the way, that "fix thread" that is on here does work, but I only changed the render setting and it completely fixed any problems I was having. Game runs fine now on medium-ish settings. I might try higher settings soon though.

Going to be playing this soon. Just beat Metal Gear Solid 3 and playing God of War 2. Soon as i beat that and Supreme commander.
