S.t.a.l.k.e.r.

As expected the STALKER site and forum has gone tits up under the sheer weight of whines.

Before it died I found evidence that the 5*** series performs better than the 6*** series of cards, which apparently don't like the game at all, resulting in fps lower than a hand cranked charlie chaplin movie. Something to do with outdated optimisation for older cards. Pisser for me.

Running fine on my X1600XT. Crashes are rare but do happen.

Crashes are rare indeed but I haven't been able to finish the game because of story bugs, but patch will be out tomorrow anyway, for example, I was given the agroblabla research complex mission TWICE, I can't complete it twice so the game doesn't view it as completed :(

What's the command to check FPS? For some reason I'm no good at eyeballing FPS. But so far it seems that it's running 100% fluidly, minus some loading hiccups due to the engine - A64-X2 4600+, 2GB DDR2-800, RadeonX1900XT 512MB, completely maxed settings.

Also, the game is fun as hell once you get into a "this is like Fallout, you can't run and gun" mindset :D

Core407, if you'd actually read the topic, you'd note that it has been linked twice, btw, it's fairly unlikely there will be a PS3 vers, if anything, they've only talked about a possible port to a MS console, and GSC are already busy doing STALKER 2 on the X-Ray Engine v2.0..

And Stigmata, yes the game is fun as hell, but I can't get over the cheating AI :\ It's just such a huge dissappointment considering the entire selling point of stalker was the AI.>_<

This game was a mess, tons of weird bugs, crashes like every 10 minutes. And was pretty boring.

Weird, runs fine for me, haven't experienced a single crash, the few bugs are mainly issues with missions.:) And it's pretty fun.<3

I experienced one crash so far, which was when I changed some video settings mid-game. As for the cheating AI, I don't really mind it. It really makes me feel like I'm the underdog, up against enemies with far more ammunition, firepower, and friends than I do.

Actually... hmm. Come to think of it, I like this game so much that I'm going to go buy it <3

Man optional missions are such a waste of time. The main plot line gives you enough firepower to not warrant any real exploration. Although I got raped turning the first psi emitter off had the wrong ammo on me, fought my way in and out head shotting with a basic pistol.

hahaha, I buy most games tbh (same with music) - I just pirated Stalker to see if it was still going to end up good. The only other games I've pirated within the last year or so are Far Cry and Oblivion, both of which I've bought in some capacity :p

Bubba 'oops i've dropped the soap again can you pick it up please' Hamrammer is keeping a cell warm just for you.

is the game supposed to be so badly optimised or is my computer that shitty? i can run HL2 (max settings) and doom 3 etc without a problem, yet stalker runs like shit on even the lowest settings.

For those who are having problems with the game, I've read a few times that performance is especially poor on Windows Vista. Read Gamespy's "Out of the Box" article on it to see what I mean. That's another reason why I'm glad I didn't upgrade to Vista.

Heh, I'm downloading this on Direct2Drive (Yeah, I'm impatient). Too bad I have to go to work in less than an hour. Heh, I've waited a few years, a few hours won't hurt:hmph:

I too am Dling it on D2D.

All the shops here had their shipments delayed, so it'll be awhile before hard copies come about : /

(GHEY)

I bought it at EBGames today..thankfully it was 40 instead of the usual 50. I like it so far, but I have died so many times. It runs great (Windows XP SP2, Nvidia 6800 256 mb, 2 GB ram) on my comp

Ok, something is really fubar about this game. I have and X800 XL, Athlon 64 3000+, and 2gb of RAM on Windows XP. So I start the game with object dynamic lighting on (static lighting mode is actually the DX8 renderer according to the manual) and as soon as I got outside the game was running at 1 frame per 3 seconds. I was really disappointed, but I turned the game down to the static lighting. I walked around a bit and came to the part where you have to take the medkit off the corpse and give it to the injured guy. At this point I decided to try object dynamic lighting again, just for the heck of it, so I saved the game there, set it to object dynamic lighting and restarted the game. And surprisingly, it looked and ran great, there were dynamic shadows from my flashlight and normal maps on everything! I set most of the other setting at a medium/high level and it was fine, I did some missions and got to the level transition where I quit to go to school. Now I get back and load my game again and it's back to .33 FPS. Anyone else have this problem?

I have the same setup. I'm dl'ing it now from d2d. I hope I'm as lucky as you.... Well not the dying part.

I did have movie codec problems with my old 6600. So much so that games made in the past 2 year have problems, specifically relating to intro, outro, cutscenes, etc.

2 examples of games that show wierd problems; Oblivion and SupCom (two people on GPG forums stated that they had the same card that I once had, and having problems with the intro and mission briefings)

I have a 7600 and plan on buying STALKER tomorrow, so I' tell you how it plays

I just tried it out for ~20 mins and for the most part I'm liking it so far.

1024x768 / High

Vista (32Bit)
Intel Core 2 Duo E6300
2x512MB DDR2 667MHZ
Asus 7600GT 256MB PCI-X

Aside from bad load times, it runs flawlessly.. on Vista. Going to try Maximum settings later.

Holy **** I am pissed. Game doesn't run.

I use any shortcut, or even the XR_3DA.exe that the shortcuts point to, and a little process caled XR_3DA.exe gets started at about 18 megs of pagefile use and just sits as a background process. Game doesn't start.

I'm going to kill somebody.

Sucks man !
All of the sudden when i play for about 5 min a get a kick to the desktop saying that there was a bug and if i want to report it ARGGHhh it was fine for the past few days now this. :(

is this the buggiest game release EVAR?

(although I haven't had any crashes or low FPS yet *crosses fingers*)

Exactly how long was this game in the works?

Were they too busy removing shit to actually examine the game thoroughly on different machines to see if it was stable enough? :|

I've read like 30 complaints about the game so far on several websites.

Just got it myself, ill probably play it after i beat a few games i have lined up here.

Okay, so apparently Stalker needs a larger paging file than what my system automatically configures WTF? I had to set it to 2000 MB for it to work. The game loads extremely slowly. Is this because my ram is 512?

That's what I thought. But I also heard you aren't supposed to mess with the paging file. To clarify, my fps is (for the most part) fine. It is just the initial loading that takes about 3 minutes or so. Is there anyone else here running this on a 512 machine?

Now that I got the game working (needed to replace the run EXE with a cracked one, everything else is legit), I can attest to the need for a HUGE pagefile.

After about 2 hours of playing, my pagefile will fill up and my entire screen will turn into a giant warped texture mess. This being with a gig of ram and a 2 gig pagefile!

This has got to be the worst game release ever. The game is such a horribly mixed bag bug and performance wise. I got lucky that my only bug was just getting the game to run. Once ingame, everything runs all full with dynamic lighting with almost no slowdowns.

But i've read of so many different bugs on assorted forums that it's amazing to me that this was even cleared past beta stage.

Not to mention, the multiplayer is complete rubbish! Me and Stigmata gave it a shot earlier today, and it was impossible to get into a game. Every single server we tried joining gave us an "invalid host" error, including the one he made! Not to mention, there were only 5 or 6 servers online.

EDIT: Holly crap. And now, after working just fine, the game decided to crash and now... It just doesn't work anymore!

Holly ****, i'm about to give up on this god forbidden pile of horse shit. It's a good game, but I can't believe anybody OKed this past ALPHA.

Hmmm. I might have a look with a 'borrowed' copy... I've already spent all my monies on C&C3 Preorder... mmmm, Kane.

Not even sure if it'll run well. Here's hopin'

Hehe. Finally got the game working again (god knows how :/), and got to the sewer bit with the things with tentacle mouths.

HOLY CRAP, they scared the SHIT out of me. And that guy that you meet in the long tube towards the end of the sewer? D:

I'd really like to get this game but i don't have the time to play it and my PC is completely ****ed thanks to a family that doesn't know how to take care of it :(. Spyware galore and it hasn't been defragmented in two years :(.

Got up this morning and found a missed delivery note from the Royal Mail...think it may be Stalker!

Going to head down pick it up when my mum gets back from work!

This game really hates Nvidia and Vista I can say that much.

Windows XP, SP2
Pentium 4 3.02 gig
1 gig of pc 3200 RAM
Nvidia 6800 Ultra 256

Runs at about 20 FPS on medium settings with dynamic lighting on objects only, everything else default. Only problem I have is when it rains, i get graphical glitches all over the screen, hard to explain but its still playable.
