Scene: inspired by HalfLife

good stuff, I hope you give him facial expression's and a l33t texture, and perhaps some shag hair for his beard, ive noticed youve used a turbosmooth modifier...
why not just enable the subdivision in editable poly mode to keep the stack cleaner.

sorry, but it's absolute non-sense posting working-screenshots of character modells at this early state of completion. it's like "hey look at my cool 3ds max with its thousands of buttons and all!!" ...

Logically, it's absolute nonsense to post a Work In Progress in order to get criticism and/or praise.

from his first screens posted he could expect real extended criticism as it there is quite an artistic effort in them (praise nevertheless never fits in a WIP thread, right) - in contrast there's no kind of "artistic effort" in those character modelling screens yet. That's what i meant.

Yeah his chin is definately too big, unless its going to turn into his mustache. Is that what you are doing? When I look at the reference images it looks like your following the mustache instead of the actual chin.

Do you mean beard/goatee? Because most mustaches don't go past the upper lip...

Wow on the Gordan stuff. Cant wait for the final model.

I switched to Vray, there are some major differences now, first the render time is like 900% faster, without artefacts. Brazil R/S maybe has better results because of the flickering you always have to get rid of, but the cost of render time is not worth it. Vray offers ALOT more controls than brazil, like here for example, the first set of bounces is Irridiance map and second is Quasi-Monte Carlo. Still I heaven't tried doing this with mental ray though. Anyway, I rendered something to post here, it's pure clay render, and a quick water test, just showing of how accurate vRay is.

some filter passes

IN CONCLUSION:

Vray IS better then Brazil, although Brazil can give you more realistic renders if you're not a proffesional lighter, but if you can master light in the real world, there are no boundaries with all the controls that vray offers.

Yeah, that is absolutely gorgeous. The reflections on those pipes bring tears to my eyes...

I think you should also know that I am addicted to Halflife 1 when it comes to multiplayer. Just played with a friend of mine who I must admit has skills in this game, BUT if you are worthy enough to take out the emperor, muahahaha !!!

3 hours of gameplay I think, i didn't count

Looks great!
Now put it in wallpaper format.
*cracks whip*

Nice work man. That looks amazing. Can I see a wireframe of it?

EDIT: Oh, and what do you do over at Plavi Film? CG stuff or something different?

ok here's the thing

the render is not completed so it's a "trailer" to what to expect. The first thin I want to start of is water. I didn't know that this could be possible and it's so cool. The bottom of the scene," the ground " is very near the water. So what you basicly see here is a refrection of that ground witch is not cool because it has no texture. Now this is the fun part, see the bottle, it's casting shadow ON the water and ON the ground )) this is uberreal, just need to add some texture and bumping and more garbadge under the water it's gonna be fantastic, but first I gotta wait this renderer to finish, this is rendering over 7 hours now, lol !

Very very good! You are a MASTER of Materials in 3DsMax.

I take 3Dmax classes in school, been taking them for a semester now and im in the Material part, i only know the basics. It would really help me if you could write a quick tutorial on how you managed to create these textures, and how to make the water etc etc.

well render complete took 12h on my slow comp, I can't say that I'm to happy cause of the water and all, the upper part looks too shiney because I didn't get to that part, but, inside the poll, things look fine, now it's time to to the bottom )

well I don't go to any school and I learn 3d from scratch all by myself. If you want tutorials, go to www.cgtalk.com and search for them ;)

Man, i never post on HL2.net but i just had to post on this one. Great renders mate :) cant wait for the next-gen tech for games to be able to handle these kind of things in real time but damn your a good 3d Artist :D keep it up

just practicing some modeling at work, I'm doinjg this with no references, just looking at the printed image

yeah right, I'd like ti hear that from someone at valve software !

That gas mask is awesome.
Wish I could model ;(

I changed the lightning and some things - still wrong, just wrong wrong wrong. Anyhow, the ground looks better, need to fix the damn bottles. Walls look nice, need to add some rust, tweak the lightning. I added 2 more boxes in the water and the refraction is soo kewl, I need to add some depth fog to the texture. So does the scene look a little better now ?

This is so damn nice. Keep it going :)
My brother works professionally with CG, I think he'd find this pretty impressive.

couple of criticisms, I like the water in some of your older versions better, and this green doesn't look too good... also, I think there's jsut too much random junk in the water. Maybe if there were some of those little plants that grow in cracks, and some sludge, and the junk itself had a layer of slime it would look better.

You said you would work on some rust and stuff, looking forward to it. I don't think I've psoted in here before, so let me tell you how completely awesome you are :D

Looks really good although i agree about the water, prefer the first versions than the green :)

Looks very good, is it possible to share the MAX file? Just to see how you did it? Also, do you have a profil of other works done by you?

so I set the scene to render at work, we can only hope that it will be ok until tomorow, and by that time, I was just looking at my freeman model, anyway, since I save incrementaly and have at least 400 saved scenes for every inch of movement I make, I went back almost at half and doing it from there, just started making the eyes look a bit real :)
