Sins of a Solar Empire!

bought it and dl'ing now

I'll be up for a game sometime later

I won't be around until later tonight. Around 6-7pm central I need to go somewhere, but I should be back in an hour after that.

I'm still playing this epic game... man it's fun :D

Though I can't wait for the patch, because the AI seems to love to spam planetary bombardment craft, and they're hard to take down. They swoop in and destroy planets really fast when there's like 20-30 of them.

Easy computers are retarded.

My first finished match however, and I was going for Go Big or Go Home (Only Capital ships). The computer hit me with perhaps five capital ships through the entire match, and nothing else. Easily defeated him. And then for kicks I tried to take down the pirate planet. HOLY MOTHER OF GOD. They had at least 50 of their heaviest boats just sitting there. Raped my fleet before any of them could even turn around to jump. But I got em back with some nukes from two planets away :D.

To be fair, it's possible they only got that strong because the computer couldn't destroy the marauding pirate fleets, and I always outbid and sicked em on the comp.

My only complaint so far is that ships really seem to be too tough to take out... Far too easy for enemies to escape unless you totally outgun them, even with the phase inhibitor things. And that was with capital ships. I can't imagine how drawn-out fights between early frigate rushes would be.

Next match I play I'm gonna try out at least 8 players and 50+ planets, for a proper taste of the game.

Yeah, do 10 players with 50+ planets. That's what I'm doing.

They're all on Normal Random.

This game is a lot of fun, I can't wait to play multiplayer cooperative with some of you guys, and maybe even competitive but I still suck at these types of games so that's not my ideal, but I'll do it anyways.

Been reading the manual. It looks really good.. how does taking over planets work?
And do Carriers kick ass or what?

You know, I'm still sort of undersold on the idea of carriers. It seems fighters and bombers don't have as much of an effect as they should. They need to be bumped up in effectiveness I think.

For taking over a planet, you have to bombard that planet from orbit with ships, some of which are especially built for that purpose. You bomb the planet and whittle away the population and infrastructure on that planet, and once it's all destroyed, it becomes available to be captured again.

Planets can go back and forth quite often during a game, and it's quite fluid in how it's accomplished. Quite often you'll have to destroy defenses around the planet in orbit though, or ships to avoid having your planetary bombardiers destroyed.

I was hoping for infantry assaults, like in GalCiv2. :p
And has anyone tried multiplayer yet? What's it like?

Same thing as singleplayer.

In fact, I don't even think there's a singleplayer campaign. I haven't seen one?

added you to friends online raz. anyone else can add me if they want under the usual alias.

It sucks that it's not there...

But to be honest, I never complete singleplayer campaigns at all unless it's a strictly single player game.

But the devs have said that they might include a single player in a patch or expansion.

I'm going to.

thinking about buying it. you guys actually think it's worth it?

I think it is and so does raz.

I bought it, only played a few hours of Singleplayer.. It's a good game but nothing amazing or revolutionary, when it comes to 4x games my fav remains the MoO series and the Space Empires series..

Dammit. I want somebody to play with. Somebody who can log into Ventrilo or Teamspeak and so we can get a game going. Preferably a first game being against the AI, but I'm up for vs each other too if that's what you want. I just want a multiplayer going with people I know!

Is there a chat system in-game? I'm not sure if I'll get my mic to work.

I still don't like the AI after playing for a few hours in another game. (This is vs Normal, now)
Just some of the things they do aren't very bright. I'll be trying a medium-sized game with Hards after this one to see if they're a big improvement. On that note, does anyone know if Hard cheats? Faster resourcing, better damage, etc?

My second target had a fleet roughly equal to mine, except trading heavy cruisers for a bajillion light frigates. He kept running from me, but damn when I finally caught his half-health fleet desperately defending his last proper planet... Very satisfying slaughter. Shooting fish in a barrel would be appropriate. In honor of my crushing victory over the Psi Order Zealots, I will rename their last bastion, an ice planet: Hoth.

It's true that not a whole lot of the gameplay is original, but it's done so well and they've a record of good post-release support.

maybe I just suck, but every time I've faced the normal ai (twice now) they seem to be pretty good at having a similarly size fleet at least and using it well enough.

Okay guys, I'm ready, I may be a bit shaky at first, but I'll get used to it. Anyone on?

I am but not at my gaming computer. Sorry.

So what the new patch do?

No idea. I'll go check. I'm not playing anymore tonight anyway, so tomorrow. :p

1. Fixed a bug on Ironclad On-line where games in progress would sometimes linger and show as available resulting in a "Rejected by host" message.
2. Siege Frigates now use more fleet supply and have somewhat fewer hull points.
3. Pirate strikes come less often
4. Random map options that don't have pirates now available
5. Various tweaks and improvements to ICO (Ironclad Online)
6. Various tweaks and improvements to the game UI in game (more info available)
7. Various small tweaks to weapons and defenses

Cheers, the time zone difference is going to be a pain but we will find a way round it.

Anyone used the random map creator? I did before and added like 20 stars and it had 400 planets and it looked amazing like a galaxy.

That reminds me, why if you research something and then lose the research station you lose the tech even tho its still researched?

I'm awake and around now, and I'm ready to play. Best way to contact me is through AIM or MSN.

Or hell, even steam if I'm on.

Because otherwise you could research a bunch of stuff, then scuttle all your labs and replace them with factories, trade ports, etc.

What would really be wrong with that? I mean you already have the tech why would you still need the lab?

Gameplay. It means you need to strike a balance between tech levels and planetary infrastructure.

I made a Sins of a Solar Empire HL2.net group. Come join. :p
Also, let's get playing. NOW

What the hell, this was released already?! Where's the demo?! :O

Hopefully not too later, won't be going back home to my good computer for a few more weeks after tomorrow.

I heard something like it'll be out a month from now or something.
