You have to understand people say alot of things these days. Most of which are bs. I'm not saying it doesen't increase the chance of getting lung cancer instead it hardly at all does. Since urging people to not smoke for self-health wasn't enough for them to stop, now they're telling us it harms others around you. Sure their are toxins in exhaled smoke but it is so spread out in concentration it won't harm you and if it does not enough to matter.

If it's a good source of income for the government, it's legal, whether it's bad or not. If marajuana didn't get people stoned, it'd probably be legal. Imagine the chaos of 50% of the population smoking it ... the other 50% would be stoned off the fumes anyway.

Seriously though, that obviously wouldn't happen...
And legalization doesnt drastically increase the number of people using it

So it'd be roughly the same amount of people doing it as today
They'd just be able to do it w/o being sent to prison for it

To the original poster, I quit back in October man, and If I can do it, anyone can... You got to want it for yourself above anything else, you may say you know it causes death cancer etc etc but has that really sunk in yet? Give it a go my friend you can do it!

And as far as non smokers treating you like crap, i know what you mean, i used to smoke, so I try no to be very patient with my smoker friends...
 
hate smoking and hate the smell....smoking ban in Ireland makes people like me happy!!!

Although if i did smoke its a good way to meet people (and girls) now...still not gonna takem it up though :)

What a prick. I'm not a smoker but I do believe in a degree of courtesy. Even if you were in the non-smoking section, it doesn't kill to be polite. Besides, how respecting are you going to be of this guy after acting like such a wanker?

Anyways - smoking's not the nicest thing in the world, but friends of mine smoke, so I'm ok with it. It's up to them. Although I can understand why bar workers worry about second hand smoke.
But let's just clear one thing up right here:

All people who quit smoking were once smokers. And quiting smoking is harder than not smoking. So I wouldn't call them all weak minded.
 
They gave in in the first place, and they can neverget that back.

Giving up because its killing you, isn't the same as having a strong mind and not starting in the first place. I understand its highly addictive, but that still doesn't mean those who quit necessarily have strength of character. My friends who smoke, all regret sucumbing to the peer preassure, even the ones who quit. I never gave in, and I've never had a cigarette once and I know I feel better for it.

They didn't have strength of character then, because they started, but they do now - and that says even more IMHO, because they've become more mature since they started, as well as having the burden of quitting an addiction.

Any way, I would have told the guy to switch tables if he has a problem with smoking in the ****ing smoking section. Then I'd take another long drag on my cigarette. Hopefully the tard would get enraged and try to assault me, giving me every right to sue his stupid ass.

BTW I find women that smoke to have more sexual appeal to me than non-smokers. But that's just me.

Oh lepobz I'm not a smoker and I even find it disgusting too. I'm a vegetarian and I'm about keeping my body clean on both the outside and inside. I'd be arguing that second-hand smoke harms people too if it was true.
 
Not everyone starts smoking through peer pressure. I started because, well, I felt like it. I'm also not weak-minded.
I stopped smoking when I no longer enjoyed it, i.e. when I wanted to stop.

I stopped when I didnt enjoy it. Which was right after trying it. Maybe it grows on you, not really gonna give it a chance.
 
I liked it right on my first cigarette. But now it's grown less appealing to me.
 
Yeah, its not like all of a sudden you lost some major battle of the wills and were forced to start smoking. Ask a thousand people how they got started, and you'd probably get a thousand different answers. Its not just the weak of mind that get hooked.
