Starcraft 2 confirmed!

For legendary purposes, I'm posting this. You know, incase blizzard changes their web site anytime soon

Graphics wise, looks like it could have been done 4 years ago. The first one was great, but I would have expected after almost 10 years that the second one would have more then just a new story, an extra race, and slightly better graphics.

The in-game images were a disapointment to me. But the cinematic was superb. There's no game company that makes better cinematics/cutscenes than Blizzard.

Have you guys read the info on the starcraft2 page? Havok physics, dx10 supported maybe even some dx10 only effects.

At first I was disapointed but now I'm starting to get hyped. Now all we need is a release date set to winter 2009.

after 10 years they still can't get the scaling right. Starcraft had pretty cartoonish scaling and graphics, but it seems that in this version they've made it even more so. I would be happy with the graphics if battleships were made 4 times bigger, marines twice as small and buildings 1.5 times as large. That's what always irked my about Blizzard games, but at least it was somewhat tolerable in SC1 (it might have been that they were 2D sprites, I dunno)

Anyway, aside from that, its about time!

Starcraft was the first PC game I ever played, and it holds a special piece of nostalgia at the back of my brain.

Here's hoping they keep the mid-90's musical style! (I would be extremely pleased if they just redid all of the music with live instruments)

watching the videos it appears they've also got the animations exactley right. Seeing those marines run around and shoot has almost the exact same feel as the original. brilliant. Zerglinds also look very good in the animations department.

Baal, that's priceless. Blizzard is quickly going from spited to idolized in my book.

I've been practically shaking with joy all morning. This is fantastic.

Im disappointed. Game looks way to much like WC3. I mean it will be great in all means of gameplay, but GFX are important to me and if the game looks like shit (which it does now) i wont enjoy it as much. With that said some of the things like the Protoss look kickass but 90% of the rest looks like ass.

I feel you; I don't like that it looks like WC3, but it also looks like it'll feel like Starcraft (look at the terrain in particular). Also, to be fair, we can't really judge the graphics yet. For all we know, these are temporary skins/models, and we've seen what, a minute of gameplay?

They should've just kept the 2D sprite thing, and just made them more clear. (Higher Resolution)

The Zerg are looking to buggish.. I think they might **** it up..

Looks like the same game with better graphics. I didn't quit playing starcraft after 3 years because I couldn't stand the look of the game. The game itself got a little boring, and it doesn't look like they have made any huge changes to it. I'll stick with Company of Heroes and hope for a DoW 2 announcement. I will probably still buy it, but I imagine I will end up spending most of my time in the custom games like I did with WC3.

Can't wait for this: total pants creamer.
All major RTS's have been exclusively 3d for years. If anything, they could freeze it to an isometric view like the first SC, but I imagine we'll get the normal 360 cam/zoom.

attn: here

I don't see why everyone's complaining about the look of the game.

It looks gorgeous imo, and that's just from screenshots.

I don't care for the scaling, I hated Supreme Commander just for that.

I'm really not bugged by the visuals. I think Blizzard did just enough to keep the visuals up with the times. Blizzard has never been known as a technological powerhouse either.

A few things here and there aside, I think they've done a great job of retaining the aesthetic of the SC universe. Even when the first shots of WoW were released, it was far from being graphically advanced. And yet it is probably one of the most beautiful MMOs out there because of its expert, luscious art direction.

Agree, i think they will come through and make something great.

My sentiments exactly.

Dustin Browder former developer of Command and Conquer: Red Alert (2001) / Generals (2003), MechWarrior 2: Mercenaries (1996), and The Lord of the Rings: The Battle For Middle-Earth (2004).

This however, really does worry me. I mean, the guy's credentials don't seem all that great. I love RA1 and Generals was pretty fun, but damn, this will be the guy who's going to be responsible for creating the sequel to arguably the greatest RTS of all time...

What's his position on the project?

All great games, I don't see anything worrying.

He's project lead.

I gotta say, that was the one thing that got me kind of nervous. Sure, he's competent. Certainly not bad. But I don't know if I can trust him with something this... big.

I see where you're coming from, but I can't bring myself to worry about it - there is too specific a feel to SC, and he's being forced to stick to the old Starcraft feel anyway, judging from what we've seen so far. Plus, project lead is more administration work than anything else.

Anyone see that ad in there? Nuke cola? That's from Fallout :/
Heh, what's wrong with a little reference to another awesome game? I love little things like that.

too bad theyre using that cartoony looking engine of theirs
still pretty excited though :rolling:

So who wants to go to S. Korea with me and open a computer shop?

There's going to be an awful lot of Koreans looking to upgrade their Pentium-2 machines.

Blizzard always references stuff to other games and stuff in real life. Go watch the Starcraft credits once and wait till the end. Lots of funny stuff in there.

Or look at some of the stuff units say in any Blizzard game.

Or even unused unit names. Just about all unused-hero's in Starcraft were named after someone in real life.

I'm sensing that it's Brood War time.

World of Warcraft has hundreds of references to popular culture as well

you know what? after watching the teaser and gameplay trailers, im actually really excited about this!!
you know blizzard wont disappoint :p

I play Starcraft in off/on spurts of a few months, so my accounts are usually deleted, but if it hasn't been, it's ennuified, on US East.

I am very nerveous about this game, I used to be a Warcraft fan until WC3 came along and destroyed the series for me (as one can realize from my previous posts). I think SC is the best of the traditional RTS games (Ie build base, gather resources, build a military force and use it) and I will be very sad if they destroy this series for me as well.

I'm hoping that the mods will allow me to do this....... oh but what the hell

W00t!!!

Gameplay trailers?!

All I saw was a sweet cinematic and some of a concept art video.

Does this mean die-hards will finally have to upgrade their rigs?

Curious about the gameplay, though. I hope it's not a complete rehash.

my only complaint is that it dont have the futuristic 90's style and looks to similiar to warcraft3

and I really hope it to be so balanced and cool as the first one, blizzard have his whole reputation at stake here

and lol "hell its about time"

EDIT:after see the screenshots more detained I see they are really focused on keeping the style which is a very good thing!
