StarCraft II

What does that shield thing with numbers mean?

It's your....achievement points or whatever. When you get an achievement, you get 10-20-whatever points.

Goddammit. I just discovered that I'm never going to have the Thor avatar that I had in the beta :( 500 freaking matches?! As a responsible married adult there's no way I'm going to be able to play that much. This is all YOUR[true Blizzard fans'] faults!

I have a questiong about the editor

I remnber I saw a video where they showed a mod where you controled a gosht in a 3rd person style and shooting whit the mouse and such and well you sure are guessing where I am going

though I dont want to do exactly that,I wonder if is not that hard to make that of controlling a character whit the arrows keys and such?

I have in mind something like a top down shooter game like the old metal gear games on the 80's or those top down flash games where you aim whtit he mouse and shoot

if is not that dificut to do how I can do it?

I dont know crap about programing but they said the editor is more easy or able to do things like that more quickly, after all I dont plan on make a big mod but atleast a experiment just for it

You have to be able to code in the language the sc2 editor uses. You can't just say "If unit selected, go into 3rd person and control with these buttons".

What I did once, was download a map that they did that kind of thing and just checked out the scripting. It was mind boggling....I'd never be able to do it.

Don't we have a resident mapper here that could shed some info?

Also, at what the Goliath says. When he says "Go ahead Tac Comm", my mom FLIPPED when I first played it. "WHAT DID HE SAY?" So I told her. "Oh, i thought it said 'Go ahead Jack Off"

Oh I love my mother.

That type of thing is most certainly possible. I only have high school programming experience, and I used to write scripts for Neverwinter Nights, but I was able to pick up the SC2 editor pretty easily. Now I could pretty much make any sort of map I could think of. :p

Singleplayer anyway... there are some nasty technical limitations for multiplayer that may or may not ever be addressed.

Is anyone else getting "multiple save errors" with the 1.01 patch through Blizzard Downloader when it hits 64% progress ? Any tips to fix it ?

Blizzard has had so many stupid problems it seems like. Yesterday the server was down and no1 could even play single player and get achievements. Blizzard is trying to be like valve with steam but fail.

I'm spewing hard that you need a constant internet connection to play singleplayer. Usually most games like this, amongst my circle of friends, are played on a single laptop in the middle of a smokey, dark dungeon of bongsmoke.

Where the internet isn't.

So I'm just going to wait for the price to drop a bit, retail-wise, and buy it later. I'll live etc.

Okay, in typical Blizzard style as I had this problem with WoW numerous times;

Trying to load up SC2 now, and it just sits on the Launcher Connecting To Patch Server little window, and nothing happens. It then fails to respond, so I force quit, load up SC2 again and nothing happens this time unless I restart my PC. Then the same window just sits there until I force quit, and round and round we go.

Its happened each time there's a patch since release. The the next day I try again and it goes straight through.

If theres one thing I cant stand, its forced updates. Because something always happens. ''No you cant play your SP campaign that has had nothing wrong with it, because someone complained about a weird looking rock on one of the MP maps and we've fixed it with this useless patch that doesnt really affect the vast majority of you.''

Anyone else getting this problem? Make me feel better, I dont want to be the only one.

No patcher for me. The game launches immediately after I start it.

Question by the way: I always attack-move by pressing A and left clicking. I read somewhere that right-clicking while pressing control works as well. Is that true?

I never use that, but that could be true. If you hold control and left click on a unit, it will select all units of that type on the screen.

I think you can just double left-click the units too to do the same thing?

At least you could in the original StarCraft.

Yes, that's still there. I mis-click too much with that though.

BTW, I have a question. Say you have a bunch of Thors with barrages ready, just outside the base. What's the fastest way to sequentially select targets, i.e., rain simultaneous destruction on multiple targets without wasting barrages? Can it be done without clicking on them individually?

Also, how can I make the most out of a group of medevacs crawling with marines? They seem to forget the marine they're "assigned" to when you pick up and drop off again and I always stumble when I want to load them back up and flee after a surprise attack. I don't suppose they made timesavers the way they did with the queen/hive combos.

For the thors, you can have them all selected then hit the barrage hotkey (B if I remember right) then click the target. Then one will fire on that target. You can do it pretty fast and fairly efficiently take things out.

With Marines and medivacs, what do you mean assigned to? Just having them near marines and their auto heal selected, they'll heal anyone wounded. The best way to lose them quickly is simply to have them all selected and right click the drops ships.. then once everyone is loaded you can hotkey the mass drop button wherever you want and have them drop off pretty much immediately.

What I do when I'm doing a quick drop/kill/retreat is have my infantry on one hotkey and the medivacs on another *good to do at all times anyway*. Then when it's time to run, select infantry, hold shift and right click on each medivac. That way, when one fills, they move to the next, so on and so forth. That's probably not the most efficient, but it seems to work for me.

Yeah never though to queue.. .but they fill so fast it's not really too much quicker prolly. Unless your dropships are far away from the marines.

By "assigned to" I meant if you hit "a" with a medevac selected and then click on one of your own marines, it'll follow it like a puppy, but this bond gets broken after a pickup. This way I wouldn't have to move the medevacs with the marines and I can concentrate on attacking.

Yea, you don't want to do something like that Mutoid. Just have the Medivac's in another group, and have them 'attack move' with the rest of your army. Easier to control, since Medivacs take priority in shooting. You'll always want to be in control of where they are going, not letting the AI of them following one unit work it's suicide magic.

Also, Star, the reason I Shift Queue is because that way I don't have to worry about waiting for the medivac to fill before moving on to the next. I can just quickly right click 4 times, fill the medivacs and then call it good. Otherwise I will have ot make sure the ship is full before going to the next. Like I said, probably not the best way, but it works most efficient for myself.

If you're attack-moving across the map, the following option isn't a bad idea, though, since just moving them along with the rest of your guys causes them to fly ahead and/or take shortcuts over cliffs and stuff meaning they can either die from being by themselves, or your other guys could die if they meet resistance along the way and have no medics!

I still don't know how to do my hotkeys right, especially as terran. All buildings on one number and tab through? That's a pain in the ass (especially since it now groups buildings with different addons into one causing you to make marines out of tech lab barracks, etc.) and I can do it quicker just by flipping back to my base and clicking. Separate numbers? Then where do I put all my army guys? The only usuable hotkeys are 1-5, and one of those will always be your command centers, so you're left with 4 hotkeys to work with really. With all my races I usually hotkey my army, but then almost never make use of it anyway and just rely on the old drag-select.

Was there a method you used to bypass the Blizzard Downloader, or did this occur naturally ?

I just want to have a go at the sp at the moment, but with the forced updating process this is proving impossible.

It occurred naturally. The Blizzard Downloader only seems to pop up when there is a patch.

I tell you what, if you 'ground attack' a horde of speedlings into the opposition's mineral line and watch the chaos ensue, and then try and double click on one to select all of them, you have the best reflexes in the world.

Those things move SO fast, its so difficult to double click one to select all of them when they're on the move, and even harder if they're attacking a pack.

Its the only thing putting me off the Zerg right now; you need such good reflexes and micro and macro management. That and every unit has to be created at the HQ via the larvae. Yeah, thats easier to do so you dont have to bounce around buildings training specific units, but you're completely limited by the number of larvae you have. The amount of times I've wanted to pump out units like Terran at specific points, only to realise I havent used my Queen to add another 4 larvae to the hive, giving me just 2 or 3 larvae irritates the hell out of me.

And every Zerg unit dies so fast it's almost not worth the punishment.

But damn it I will keep trying.

I am now convinced Protoss micro has went up the roof.

Protoss is no longer a beginner's race. The amount of micro management has been ridiculous for me the past few games against a very hard and insane A.I. M&M build is lethal against a protoss player, and a protoss player must micro the stalkers and sentries around to get any decent shot at defeating very hard A.I. Not to mention, Protoss tends to have less army units than the other 2 race, which makes micro management even more important. The Marauders not only do extra damage to Stalkers, but could slow Zealots as well (making them easy cake for marines).

I'm getting owned online a hell of a lot :(

Was Protoss ever a beginner's race? They've always been the class the has more expensive stronger units requiring more micro. In all honesty I believe Terran requires the most micro simply because of the dynamics of midgame play on. Maneuvering line of sight and placing siege tanks becomes a chore and since basically every unit you have is ranged - maintaining range between units clever placement. The only saving grace of Terran micro is the marine... they can basically do anything until they come up against a siege tank or colossus.

Protoss was always the easiest race to play, I thought. You get some big powerful units and you just a-move them into the army. With terran, you had Siege, Stim, Medics. Zerg was SO MUCH SHIT TO MAKE AAHHHH. Protoss was just make some gateways and pump.

Even still, I'd call Toss one of the easier races. Like each, to master them takes a LOT of skill, so really, calling them the "Beginner's Race" is off. They are all equally hard if you don't know wtf to do :p

Difficulty/Mastery is apparently:

Terran (most difficult)
Zerg
Protoss

Terran are apparently the most difficult to MASTER, seeing as they can be countered quite easily. People tend to go with one build, and if you counter that build, they wipe out extremely fast. So get it wrong and you lose quickly. M&M&M is so ridiculously popular, almost every game I play against Terran I rush to aerial like Mutalisks. Oh look, now that your medics have gone, those marauders are useless.

Protoss have always been the noob race in my eyes, as they're so powerful. Yes they're more expensive, but they're more expensive for a reason.

I had game last night where I was running a marine thor mix and the guy came at me with a bunch of mutas (the only thing he built) and I wiped them out so fast I got the Meatgrinder achievement. It was satisfying. That's why I love marines and thors... nothing that flies can beat them and on the ground they're pretty tough too. I guess a bunch of BCs could yamato them to death, but marines vs BCs is still pretty much a win.

Oh man I just got a wicked gleam in my eye reading that. Gotta try it.

Cloaked bansees seems like a solid counter unless you scan the area. BTW first time poster been a lurker. Hi :)

If it is that late into the game, there should be plenty of scans to use, since hopefully there is at least one extra expansion. For Thor and Marine, as Terran, siege tanks would rape that shit hard.

Also, welcome! :D

Is it wise as a Terran to build bunkers before any offensive troops?
