steam updated now HL2 won't start

Not even the SDK is working i get this crap:

i think something is wrong when we manage to fill 11 pages of equally powerful For and Against steam arguments, we have nothing better to do when they broke our games.

Same problem...
Retail Version, East Coast of USA.

DM works. Nothing else will. DM only worked after "deleting local game content" in steam and re-downloading.
Someone here mentioned a minidump file is created in your half life 2 folder. I poked around the thing in notepad although I have no idea what I'm looking for.

Although there were some references to strange files in there...

two or more lines in there referred to the c:/program files/common files/Ulead/Mpeg file...
Only thing I have in my comp having to do with Ulead is Video Studio 8. As I dont use it anymore I uninstalled it but references to Ulead still show in the new mini-dump files...

What the heck does that have to do with STEAM and HL2???
(sorry I know nothing of programming or these types of things)

Does anyone know how to read these things properly and can maybe hash out an explanation instead of numerous "this doesnt work, valve/steam sucks my bunghole" posts?
 
damn people!!! what the hell are you doing? listen to yourselves! "hung by his testicles" "fat chicken eater" "i hate valve" ... moderators.. do something! what morons say these things? these are honest people that try to make a living. do you really think that gabe newell or any other valve employee are deliberately trying to screw with us? what other game company do you know that do release stuff like this to us? none!

valve is a great company that has dones something revolutionary in the gaming business and they are treading new ground. stuff like this happen, they are not frikken robots guys! they can make mistakes too. they have created the greatest pc games ever and as soon as something stops working you cry like little babies and rattle your whatevers and swear and curse and yell out insults to ordinary persons like gabe newell who has a good job and has done something fantastic! what the f... have YOU done?

you know what? get the hell outa here and go somewhere else with this crap, im tired of it. damn... the tards these days.
 
No need to worry guys, just restarted steam and the flaw is now fixed. Happy fragging every1. :D

Worked 1st time for me, and I'm on a 56k modem connection. The update did take 3 hours though.:LOL:
 
pretty cool, they bring out a temp fix, to bring out a bigger fix later, and now they need to make a fix to fix the fix! :p

This is shit (sorry i just started a new topic on this subject) i like most of you bought the game AU$129 and a friend also bought the CD version today $69. And what chance does my best friend have of playing HL2 today. NONE it was a waste of cash - in the end it looks like the smartest thing to do would be to wate a couple of months and get a crack of the net. There's about $200 and we cant even play the fuc*en game. I love HL but whats the point, every couple of weeks it wont even let me connect offline too. Get a life steam and let us use patches so we dont have to download your software with bug's it's worse than MICROSHIT

Well to follow up I went to bed and left it on u/l and I turned steam off just because. I had the computer turn off auto at 4:30 AM and thats what it did and I got up at 7:56 AM turned on my comp and started steam to see if a patch..I did not notice a patch unless it was really small and the steam news did not change soo I tried my source out and it all works..go figure...perhaps you just need to cycle it out your comp for a couple hours, I have no idea..its a ufo to me.
 
yeah, bullshit...happening to me too, can't open HL2DM, HL2, or CS:S....wtf man....in Maryland

Woke up this morning, deathmatch works just fine, too bad its so friggin laggy, but yeah.
 
yah i dont understand how they could have fixed it witout making a new patch. oh well. i'm happy.
 
And am not that happy as btg!!!
Its already been a 1 week since i can't play anything!!!
is Valve thinking about any kind of fix for this F*@^ing crap!
 
Hi, I believe I “HAD” this similar problem my self. With my problem I figured out that I had not fully downloaded HL2, HL2 DM and the CS S updates. I completed these downloads and it works now. good luck all.
 
Back to the pont.

Okay sorry to change the subject around again but i have a problem that i herd can be helped. This was mentioned erlier in the forum thread but it wasnt ever answered. Okay so iv fully installed half life 2 etc and before i had a chance everything updated so at the time i didnt have a problem with this. But when i tried to load up half life 2, cs : source or hl2 deathmatch it comes up with the error message 'failed to load the launcher DLL'. As other people have sed its probably due to the updates but iv never been able to play it and i know my computer can cause it matches all the system requirments and i was able to play the beta version of cs:source! Any help with this would be highly appreciated!
