On the one hand, if both CNN and MSNBC are saying that Irwin is dead, there's a pretty good chance that he's dead. On the other hand, Irwin's death was recorded on Wikipedia hours before it actually happened.

WHAT IS GOING ON?!

In either case, in three days, everybody on Earth will have forgotten about this and I can go back to whatever I was doing before. Glee!
 
He's dead, or it's one of the bigger hoaxes in awhile.

It's literally everywhere here in Aus..

It could be that the news stations are just getting their stories out. Im sure they have to check their sources more thoroughly than the wiki guys do.

it's still possible it's just a bad newsfeed....little indy sites get wiff of it...big news sites see it on little sites and post it before confiming so as not to look too retarded and sloww.....as if posting prank stories is any less humiliating
 
at first I thought this thread was going to be another one of those "sean connery is dead: dead tired of getting bad service on his cellphone!" ones.
 
Oh God, poor thing. I did find him kinda annoying at times, but he was really a good bloke. R.I.P Steve.

I really did not like Irwin, but it is unfortunate that he passed away.
 
Holy shit. This is terrible news :(

I liked Jeff Corwin better for his goofy and often funny style... but man, this really sucks. I watch animal planet alot, and while I didn't watch his show too much anymore, i'm sure the network will be affected by his death.
 
F*CKING SH!T. Im really pissed about this. For F*CKS SAKE. Im am so damn sad right now. Steve Irwin was the best bloody bloke ever. In one of our classes at school we got reports he'd died and when class finish we went outside and basically everyone in the school new about it.

Im so damn saddened.

That's very sad :( I passed this post 2 hours ago, cuz I thought it was some kind of joke...but then I looked at the news, and I can't believe it's true. Damn, what a way to go. His wife is now left to raise their 2 small children. And to think that I just saw a show with him in it on Animal Planet a couple months ago.

A stingray would be unlikely to defend itself if you started eating it. Their main form of survival is to "swim away".

However, if you step on one, it mechanically triggers the stabber/stinger to point up, thus stabbing you. If it was swimming, and he put enough pressure on its back, I can see how it got him.

Still.. its really rare for something like this to happen.
 
Especially through the chest, it must have been a big ray in your scenario, Bliink.
 
True, it does sound a little far fetched. But there woudn't be a reason for him to fake his death.

At least Jeff Corwin is still alive.
 
Apparently there have been only 3 stingray deaths in Australia, Irwin was the 3rd :(
 
Dammit! Steve is so awesome! He even made some really funny commercials (1 here in Holland).

Man this pretty much sucked. Used to love his shows when i was a kid, really interesting and all that. Least he died doing what he loved.

No it wasnt. The first mention of his death on wikipedia was just over 4 hours ago.
 
Considering I haven't watched one of his shows for years, I actually feel an almost personal sense of loss over this. The man was a ****ing legend, and I for one think the world is a lesser place without him. The Australian government should give him a posthumous medal, or build a statue or something.

RIP steve.
 
I feel really bad for his kids. One is only 8, and the other is not even 3 yet. The three year old wont even have a memory of his father when he is grown. Its really sad.

For whatever reason, my sister ran into my room and woke me up just to tell me this, this morning. I thought I was dreaming because it was quite surreal but it's incredibly sad news and always a shock when an icon of your youth passes away.

I could always do such good impressions of him, and I'd feel bad doing them now. Well... he'd probably not want me to stop. *sniffle*
