Student arrested after cutting food with knife

An elementary student in Marion County was arrested Thursday after school officials found her cutting food during lunch with a knife that she brought from home, police said.

The 10-year-old girl, a student at Sunrise Elementary School in Ocala, was charged possession of a weapon on school property, which is a felony.

According to authorities, school employees spotted the girl cutting her food while she was eating lunch and took the steak knife from her.

The girl told sheriff's deputies that she had brought the knife to school on more than one occasion in the past.

Students told officials that the girl did not threaten anyone with the knife.

The girl was arrested and transported to the Juvenile Assessment Center.

If she were simply walking down the hall and it had fallen out of her pocket, a teacher found it, and she was arrested, would it seem so ridiculous. Maybe you are actually partially illiterate, because I've already said that being arrested does not mean she was charged with anything, and if anything it is her parents responsibility regardless. Um, somehow, I safely made it through all grades of school with the school provided utensils including a fork, non-lethal knife, and spoon.


It is unfathomable that people are arguing that people should be able to bring lethal weapons to school in their backpacks at will. I mean at the least, I would be a bit concerned for my 10 year old to even be using a steak knife under my supervision, for fear they may cut themselves. Speaking of running with knives, why do you think schools required safety scissors to replace the traditional scissors?

Canadian police Tasers kill third man in five weeks

? A Canadian man died Saturday, four days after police used a Taser stun-gun on him because he reportedly was acting erratically in a store, police said. He was the third person to die in recent weeks in Canada after being shocked by the handheld weapon.

Robert Knipstrom, 36, died in a hospital after two officers used pepper spray, a Taser and their batons to subdue the British Columbia resident. Police earlier said Knipstrom was extremely agitated, aggressive and combative with the two officers who responded. He was conscious and speaking when he was taken to the hospital.

The cause of death has yet to be determined. Although a Taser was used against Knipstrom, it was not immediately clear what role, if any, it played in his death, said Inspector Brendan Fitzpatrick.

Investigations into Knipstrom?s death have been launched separately by the British Columbia Coroner?s Office and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, police said at a news conference Saturday.

The case comes as Canadian police face intense criticism over the death of Robert Dziekanski, a Polish immigrant who died at Vancouver airport last month after officers used a Taser and manhandled him.

A Nova Scotian man also died earlier this week, 30 hours after being shocked with the Taser at a jail where he was being held on assault charges.

Now that is justice served right? those people surely deserved to die. It's a good thing that little girl doesn't live in Canada, or she may have been tasered to death.

When I was a kid, thats all I drew was people shooting each other. I was tracing imagery from WWII books that I checked out from the school library in 1st grade, then adding bullet holes and blood splatters on the people.
