**The OFFICIAL Buy Lunch for Valve Thread!**

Personally if you guys want to donate its upto you but personally I'm not going to donate my hard earned wages to Microsoft millionare employee's who earn enough money to buy themselves a bloodly pizza parlour let alone a pizza.

If they can spend 40 million dollars on a game I'm sure they can spare a couple of quid to buy themselves a ****ing pizza.

Anyway donate if you want but thats just my personal opinion.

Jeez guys...it's the thought behind it that matters! It is completely irrelavent how much money they have.

wow i'm sorry we're offending you guys so much that you gotta waste your precious time by posting in this thread telling us how stupid our idea is. seriously... why do you guys care. if you don't agree, then don't post. simple.

btw... what's the donation total up to?

if you disagree with something you voice your opinion.

To put it straight forward I could just simpily say I think its very sad and that you need to go out more.

(thats kinda harsh, sorry.)

It's all symbolic, and wouldn't it be cool if they added "thanks for the pizza" on the ending credits? :) I hope this thing goes like planned

Just watch out you don't give the valve team food posioning otherwise the only thing with your name on it would be a press release stating that the game has been delayed due to dodgy pizza from the hl2.net team ;)

Possibly because this is a public forum, where people share their different ideas and opinions? I'm not trying to be rude, but come on, I'm not suppose to post in any thread I disagree with? What's the point of even having a forum then?

Oh, and I care because I don't think it's right nor a good idea. Sorry if my views conflict with others, but that's the way it is. Also, I don't see what the big deal is. Some of us see it one way and others see it another way. You don't have listen to or agree with what we say at all. Niether does anyone else. People can do what they want, and everyone is entitled to their opinion.
This does't mean we can't discuss it though.

i'm merely saying it's a waste of time to complain about what we're trying to do. i get out plenty, btw. :D

This should go to charity not a video game company who makes millions of dollars. I can't belive you are about to spend over 300 bucks to give lunch to some strangers who are already rich instead of poor starving kids, absolutely appaling. It's just beyond the word unreal......

it's a present. get over it.

The very same could be said about you paying $50 for Half-Life 2, a paltry game.

You have no right to judge.

I give to charities and I am only 17. I give money to people in the street. I think of others.

I think I have every right to treat a company I am a fan of and admire.

And I am getting fed up of people coming into this thread to make their stand and make themselves look high and mightly.

there are people living below the poverty line in every city in every country in the world...sorry but this send pizza to valve idea is stupid (k maybe not stupid but you get the idea) considering there are so many children living in your city that will go hungry tonight, and tommorrow and the day after that. Dont get me wrong I love the work valve does but I'm not going to send cash to buy them lunch...if it was buying lunch at the local homeless shelter I wouldnt hesitate.

Umm...I've donated money to churches and charities before, I think I have a right to treat myself to entertainment like HL2. But this, this is a bunch of people saving money together to hand it to some developers who are already rich enough. Like cpt stern said, think of the children who will be crying tonight because their mom can't afford any food while valve is livin' the high life getting people sending them over 300 bucks in pizza and sodas. They have more than enough cash to buy themselves this food.

They aren't sending the money to donate the pizza's to Valve, they are just treating the Valve team to lunch.

ITS NOT A CHARITY!

in addition, i often go out of my way to give money to people on the street. what i do with my own money is my business. if you guys can't handle that, well it's your problem :) no need to act all righteous. if you guys take exception, then go donate to a charity RIGHT THIS MINUTE! DO IT, THEY'RE ALL DEPENDING ON YOU!!! NOW!! DON'T MISS YOUR CHANCE! :x

$300 odd dollars would go a long way to feed a family...that's groceries for a month. You all have every right to spend your money how you wish but I think a donation to a charity in Valves name would go a lot further than 3 slices of pizza for each employee. I think they themselves would rather it went to a charity, it's a far more heartfelt gesture.

Oh and btw anyone who's ever worked in a deadline driven industry knows that the employer will usually shell out for things like pizza coffee and donuts for their employees during crunch time.

What difference does it make if they are sending the money for the pizza or buying the pizzas themselves, either way the money gets spent on the rich.

Guys look, sending this to valve is very generous and thoughtful, but all I'm saying is that there are more deserving and needy people who need this money.

Think of it this way

You are living with a single parent in a little 1 room apartment building that your mother can barely afford. Sometimes you don't even get dinner because mom had to pay the bills and such. Then you overhear in school the next day that some guys over at blahblahblah.net are sending 300+ bucks in pizza and soda to a bunch of rich programmers. How would you feel? The first thing that would pop into my mind is "ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?!?!"

Well it's your money, if you want to spend it on some rich programmers then so be it, all I'm saying is that you should spend it more wisely.

I agree that it's dumb to waste money on a rich developer house. Feed some kids in ethiopia or something before you give gabe and co. some food.

And it's definately not the same as paying $ for HL2. You're just giving it away to a cause that doesn't need it. Not to mention most of you will be giving them $50 dollars when the game does come out, then they get to buy themselves new cars and houses, plus all the pizza they could ever want.

It's great that you want to waste your money, and it is just that, YOUR MONEY. But IMO it is very stupid to do this.

I guess in valves case there is such a thing as a free lunch.

I'm not going to give the charity line cos personally I aint no charity man and I doubt I ever will be one. (though I do stop and listen to the charity women on the streets tell me about homes for homeless people if they are good looking and then tell them I haven't got my switch card on me).

Just out of interest, a lot of you guys have been honest and said that you are under 17, 16 whatever. Meaning it will be your parents paying towards Valve's pizzas. What would they say if they found out what the money was being used for?

Why ethiopia and not the poor in your own country?

I bet their parents would say

"great son, here's another fifty :dork: "

Holy crap can't people realize that they are not giving Valve this lunch because they feel that Valve needs it? THIS IS A PRESENT! You give presents to people who you appreciate, you give presents to whomever you want, if someone did something very nice for me, or did a lot of work then I will want to show how I appreciate them. Well guess what? This is a way of showing your appreciation, I could buy the game but like I said I don't buy the game to show my support, I buy the game for my own entertainment purposes.

Get over this idea that all money people don't spend on their own needs should be donated to charity.

EDIT: And no I will not be spending the money but its because I have no credit card and I won't even bother asking my parents, I am just defending those people who do have the option and do want to buy Valve lunch.

Yes why spend money treating ourselves, its all material stuff. Lets spend every last penny of our wages helping the homeless and less fortunate then ourselves.

Why spend £30 taking the lady out to the restaurant for a paltry bit of food when a chicken nugget will do the same thing.

Buy the ****ing lunch and ignore the others who are complaining.

Its my birthday, I'd like a large stuffed crust ham and pineapple pizza with a large diet coke.

Thanks.
You havn't done anything nice for me, I don't know you, and you aren't spending your time designing what will be one of the most incredible games of all time. I have no reason to give a present to you.

Besides, like I said in my edit from my last post. Im not sending in any money.

Bla bla starving children bla bla the poor bla bla the needy bla bla...

There's your update, a bunch of hyprocrits who wish to feed the ethiopians but won't do a god damn thing themselves.

And how would you know this?

heh, you guys are buying them food, because they are making a game that will make them even richer and fatter then they are.

So it's pretty simple, why not use the money you were going to give to these people, and give it to someone who needs it. you give it to valve and they probably won't give a flying **** except for maybe a "oh cool, free food". Where as, some starving family would say something akin to "There is a God!!!".

but whatever, give your dirty dollars to some fat, rich ****s.

Uhhh I think this won't be happening anyway, so why get into a flame war?

You all need to calm down.

Could be really cool, also having our names and nicks on the pizza box

yes but it would be cooler if Valve got a letter from some charity with all of the names of people who've donated in Valve's name

besides it's not like they're going to keep the pizza box

The only way that charity thing would work out to something would be if you donated a lot of money.

Else you gotta do it yourself.

no not really...the person who organised this estimated the pizza would cost $300+...that's a good sum to send to a homeless shelter or whatever
