The Sims 3 Goes Gold, Set For Launch June 2

Being that blind must be a gift...

Solaris
Banned

I'm not blind, but I was just wondering if the admins banned him for that shitty reason(yes I know about the sticky) or because of something else.

How exactly is it a shitty reason?

So you need to buy hairstyles and shit from the microsoft store?

Sounds a bit lame.

Has nothing to do with Microsoft. It's EA. The greediest people in the gaming industry. They charge you for every little thing and it's clear they've left some things out of The Sims 3 just so they could sell it in their store.

Seems that the 'leak' might be a beta release, as according to a reviewers girlfriend the version he has has a lot more hairstyles. I wouldn't take the leak as a given of final product.

I don't think the leak is a beta release. Usually they tend not to implement the DRM till the game is complete, for example Assassin's Creed beta version didn't have any DRM, except the one level that was purposely corrupted. So having a Beta version of The Sims 3 complete with SecuROM is pretty strange. It would be a pain having to keep adding your CD key while you are still developing the game.
I've looked though the items that he had and compared them to the leak and it's the same, so no difference there.

I've been playing the final version for the past few days (i'll be putting a review on The Reticule soon) and I love it, it is a really good game as it is. I won't bother with the EA Sim Store items though.

Good review, Chris! I really am thinking about giving it a go.

If I had any money, I'd give it a try.

The Sims is the only game series on the PC that doesn't ever seem to dip down below a £15 price-point. Very frustrating if you're a counting house Miser like myself. Humbug.

Yes I have it. Turned up today as a result of pre-ordering back in Jan curtosy of www.play.com. I've registered it, downloaded the freebies/1000 points of stuff* as well as the other neighbourhood 'riverview' (which is kind of hidden away tbh). Shall get into it promptly, after I've let loose my architectural genius on a few custom lots.

I did play around with the 'leak' for a weekend (knowing it was out there whilst I was waiting for it was too much for me..my bad) and was pretty impressed by it Vs the previous title. Firstly it runs much better than Sims 2 on my machine (Dual core 3GHz, 4GB Ram, 9800 GTX), esp given the fact that its handling an entire neighbourhood. I also like the fact that the Sims themselves are less consumer obsessed than previous titles, sure every so often they'll be like 'I'd like to buy X' but most of the time their wants are personal, social or career orientated which I think is a lot better. The game takes a lot of Sims 2 Seasons, in that you can grow your own fruit & Vegetables, as well as fish and overall has quite a nice little Eco theme running throughout it (Bicycles are a lot cheaper than cars).

*I was a little apprehensive about the Store. However I have to say they weren't pimping that much stuff up there. One will have to see how it goes long term though.

I wouldn't buy it if you already have TS2. I don't see the point because the basic gameplay isn't that different.

You can't even do basic things like click-and-dragging to re-order tasks, so you have to cancel them all when needing to phone a repair man so it goes to the front. No loading screens between moving houses and the material editor (create-a-style) are the only major interesting changes, but neither add to the gameplay.

5 years work and this is all they managed?

HL2/HL1 gameplay = near identitical, whatchu gonna do.

'sides, it's been a while since I got any decent games, and I know the Sims will last me at least a month.

I've got it, and its not much different from the sims 2.

Some things, such as the lack of a fully customizable sims editor with the ability to import custom textures (the body shop) are huge steps backwards. There are also far fewer items than were in the original vanilla sims 2.

There are minor improvements here and there, and of course there is now the seamless town-- but overall this is not that big of a step for a game going from 2004 to 2009.

Just another EA cashcow that will be expanded to hell and modestly improved at some point in the future.

I have it.

Good
--------------------------------
This is what the Sims 2 should have been. I hardly played the Sims 2 at all, because it was basically the Sims 1 in 3D. There was a fresh coat of paint over everything and a number of tweaks, but when it came down to it, I was doing the same thing I had already done a million times in Sims 1, but without any of the expansions. Honestly, I could never get over the fact that I still couldn't see my neighbors' houses. Now the Sims 3 finally completes the logical transition to an open world (hinted at by the Sims 2 expansions, but ultimately crippled by the engine). This open world truly changes the gameplay - the simple ability to walk to a neighbor's house, jog around the neighborhood, pop over to the cinema with a friend, and all without any loading screens - it's fantastic. And the fact that everyone lives along with you completes the feeling that this is a real world, and not just the simulation of one very bored family.

And of course, we have various little improvements like half-grid and diagonal furniture placement, the ability to "stretch" walls, texture editors, and a bunch of other little things that make it more fresh. And, like Evo said, it's a bit more "game-like" with its moodlets and wish/opportunity systems.

Bad
-----------------------------
Basically, that EA developed it. This means that they stripped out most of the expansion buy/build/character-creation things and are now selling them for about a buck a pop on the EA store. Right now, there's not even basic things like hot tubs, pool tables, pianos, spiral stairs, etc. I'm personally saving my bundled $10 card for the inevitable release of these things on the store. And we can surely look forward to "The Sims: Eatin' Food" because you can't see inside restaurants, "The Sims: Walkin' Dogs" because pets are gone again, and "The Sims: Fixin' Bugs" because there are a fair number of them.

Verdict
---------------------------
It's what The Sims 2 (Vanilla) should have been. Between the open world and the myriad of little tweaks, the series is fresh for me again - yet, if you don't like the core gameplay of the Sims, nothing is going to convince you.

I've uploaded some minimalist style residential lots. The Modern I & II are the same design but set on different lots sizes. The Compacts are different designs. All in all they should be fairly affordable (I prefer to let people fit them out themselves beyond the basics rather than push my tastes on them) More to follow over the next few days. If you like them, give them a thumbs up that way more people see them. ;)

I bought The Sims 3 on Friday, does that make me a bad person?:(

I feel kinda double about having made the purchase.

Nope. its a great game, though its even better if you have some of my custom Lots in the game ;)

It is a good game ... but goddamn I have never seen anything that offers pirates such a much better experience than consumers. In addition to not having to pay for the game itself, they also get all the online content ridiculously priced to legit customers at $275 (a number I read somewhere, please correct if wrong). It's absolutely insane, by stripping all this shit out of the main game and releasing it solely online they're basically begging people to pirate the game, or at least the store content (which should have been in there in the first place).

Other than that, it's a good game. And as amazing as it is not to have to sit through excruciating loading times when leaving your lot ... it doesn't change the game as much as you'd think. You're still doing exactly the same shit and the core gameplay is unaltered. I'll play this like I occasionally go back and play The Sims 2 ... have fun with it for a couple weeks, then not touch it for months.

Oh cool. I actually haven't bothered designing a house yet :O

I agree with your concerns however I'm pretty sure the extra content isn't equal to $275 (not without counting the same things twice). The one thing that surprised me was how little there was tbh. Also the furniture sets are a lot cheaper than the individual items. more at length later on as I'm at work...:(

I saw this on the shelves a few days ago and I got so excited I wanted to purchase and play it right away. Then I saw the "Comes with 10 Sim Dollars!" tag or some ****ing bullshit, and my mind started spiraling down a path of what that odious sign entails. I slowly retracted my hands, stared longingly for a few more seconds, then went on my way.

It just really put me off it for some reason. It's not like I didn't go through this with the previous two games, and I'll probably get it eventually. But... feck.

TBH. The big thing with the game is that although there are less items, there is a **** tonne of adaptability options to them in terms of appearance. Its not a case of you buy the Blue combat trousers or the Red fridge and they are forever Blue trousers and Red fridge. Objects are basically a form, but the appearance of it can be tweaked as much as you want. With clothing, it's the cut of the cloth you are paying for, not the texture in effect (same with hair etc, etc)

Watch this:-

This is Kev and his daughter Alice. They’re living on a couple of park benches, surviving on free meals from work and school, and the occasional bucket of ice cream stolen from a neighbour’s fridge.

When you create a Sim in The Sims 3, you can give them personality traits that alter their behaviour. Kev is hot-headed, mean-spirited, and inappropriate. He also dislikes children, and he’s insane. He’s basically the worst Dad in the world. He is a horrible human being, but he’s also amusing to watch.

That makes me wanna get this game. The lack of variability and things to do in Sims 1&2 is why I didn't play them for very long but it seems to be much improved in Sims 3

The best thing to do with Sims 3 is just to make stories with it.

Has anyone noticed how much more often things break in the Sims 3. Nearly everyday something breaks and i got to fix it.

That was why I never liked the first Sims. You make the obligatory Lesbian couple, and then you get one of them to have an affair with the Gordon Freeman bachelor, but you feel a lot like the game is playing you more than you playing the game.

Then you take the ladder away from their swimming pool and sell the game on.

It was fine for my character most of the time, but once he was married his wife kept breaking things. Bitch!

It depends on the quality of your product. The more expensive items tend to break down less than the cheap ones.

How long lifespan are you guys playing with?

I'm playing with Epic, it feels kinda like cheating since I get the time to max out my career easily etc.

I play on Long. It still goes pretty fast but I think epic would never end.
