Look at the average incomes of people in these countries, compare that to the billions earned PER MONTH by the Oil Sjeiks and their corrupt governments.
Where is this money going to? Certainly not their countries. Yes once in a while a hospital is set up, to keep the public in line.

Lets go back in history a bit, : we had revolts, civil wars etc during the aristocratie and royalty clashes a few hundred years ago, these new bread arab royals are naturally scared that their own population revolts against their wealth and power, because they sit in shitholes while the sjeiks make their money.
Solution to prevent these uprises? -> cut out any other media, indoctrinate your population that the west is "evil".
Then make sure dingdongs like Bush get in power, who can prove your point, and tadaaaa! you can live your life hapily while your country falls into poverty and hatred.

For my work i have to visit certain parts of Switserland, and i see the oil-sjeik's kids drive around in Ferrari's, going to 100k a year schools all on dirty oil-money. Having cocktail parties and such.

Funny thing is, the US most likely doesnt care, it probably needs a common enemy to drain on its own populations fear. The industry even promotes this behavior since its good for certain buisnesses.

All in all, it always comes down to rich vs poor. Oil is money, money is power -> Its an old story in a new jacket.

During the Crusades there was a sharp rise in suicides, the church made suicide a sin. Maybe Islam needs to rethink the eye for an eye malarky?
 
Religion has done a great job of dividing the human race into managable masses, controlled and turned against one another by the figureheads of each division. Some hide their mistakes under a guise of peace and love while others take pride in their aggressive stance against their "enemy". Both are just being used to widen the divide under a delusion that, quite frankly, scares me more than the threat of global warming or an asteroid impact ever will.

No offence man but I think that is an almost racist, close minded way of describing the problem. You are trying to comprehend the problem from what is basically your perspective and not those of the people that you're talking about. Sure what you are talking about is a factor in the global crisis but what you are descring their world like is shaped by the news it seems. You are generalising, being Swiss you probably don't live with Islamic people; being British I do, and I think that have completely ignored the fact that Islam is not a religion confined to the sands of the middle east but rather it is a global religion. What say ye.

I live in the middle of downtown toronto, which probably has the highest homeless population in canada.

As i said, poverty isnt the reason this happens, but poverty is being diverted by religious indoctrination funded and pushed directly and indirectly by these "mafia's", to divert them from their own aristocracy and the ones running for money and power.

On the other end, all western companies and certain government officials care about, is the end-result pricing. So just like rigging elections here and there back home, why not rig one or 2 events over there, if it ensures more profit along the line.
These things are borderless, but in this case, dam this "mafia"-setup works well.

Shi'ites are the idiots who yell bs that is not even in the Qur'an and sunnis are the smart people who believe that conflicts can be solved by peaceful agreements. im a sunni myself and i respect other religions. In the Qur'an, there was no mention about sacrificing yourself that will harm others. it only talked about sacrfiicing animals.

The shi'ites are brainwashed from young that the nonbelievers are the bad people. i remembered Freshman year this Pakistani student refused to help anotehr student because he was an atheist...

AFAIK, the Koran forbids harm to civilians in warfare. However, the wackjobs get around this by claiming that US and Israeli citizens belong to a 'militarized' society, and therefore it is justifiable to kill them.

If you compare this to the far more fragmented nature of Christianity - there are more divisions than I care to count, many of whom hate one another (the centuries of brutal in-fighting between Catholics and Protestants, for example). Yes there are divisions within Islam and yes there has been much fighting, but it is not nearly as fragmented to the same degree.

Muslims feel that an attack on or the oppression of a predominantly Islamic nation is not an action against said nation, but on their Muslim brothers. The exploitation of the Middle East by the West for so long is what generates such ill-feeling, and this in turn angers Muslims in other nations.

I'm not saying that all Muslims are blameless for terrorist acts that have been committed under the guise of Islamic values, nor am I saying that one should respect or hold in high regard nations that rule under Shariah law (although I think any sort of theocracy is utterly ludicrous, often reprihensible). What I am saying is that there is a separation between those who consider terrorist actions as the only means, because their brothers are in danger and they have no other means of defending themselves (whereas Israel, for example, can tear the shit out of the Palestinians with gunships, etc.). This does not justify such actions, I'm merely trying to point out why this happens, which I think is skimmed over all too often resulting in the short answer of:
"Essentially, Islam does allow suicide bombers to destroy innocents."
Which is an unfair assessment.

I question this concept of fellowship amongst Muslims. And funnily enough in the Iraq-Iran war , Saddam believed the Sunnis on the Iranian side would not dare fight against the Sunnis from Iraq but he underestimated the power of nationalism which didn't stop them from killing their "brothers".

I accept that there are divisions in Islam, yet not to the extent that there is in Christianity. For the most part, Islamic anger is borne out of aggression towards other Muslims. Why else would British Muslims decide to kill other Britons? Not because of nationalism and not because they felt that British Muslims were wholly maligned.

I have not read this whole thread, because I don't think I could handle it. Regardless, I just felt I should throw this out there.

Muhammad (pbuh) would advise his muslim army prior to battle to ensure that:
1) Women, children, and the elderly were not to be harmed.
2) Those who took refuge in religious buildings were not to be harmed.
3) Civilian and religious structures were not to be destroyed or desecrated.
4) Trees were not to be damaged in any way.

These are just a few of the things I have picked up. The thing is, at Muhammad's time these guidelines were by and large followed.

All I can say is: Imagine this doctrine being implemented in a modern setting. People who would argue this need to evaluate where they stand as well.

In reference to hneaz' post, let me say this which I believe is crucially important. The actualy division between practising shi'a and sunni muslims is more cosmetic than substantial. There are a few variations, but none so outrageous that one branch is totally independent of the other. Moderates couldn't care less whether or not a muslim was shi'a or sunni, and business would go about as usual between these two. The most public display of this split, as we all know, is in Iraq. However, it isn't hard to see how this split was turned into the mother of all canyons, i.e the Infal campaign. The division between sunni and shi'a is a simple one to fix, but they need to realize that they are gaining nothing by massacring each other.

# When you fight with disbelievers, do not retreat. Those who do will go to hell. 8:15-16
