It's rather amusing and also slightly worrying the way teenage boys act when a girl enters the game/forum/chat.
You get 3 different reactions to it.
1. "omgnekkidpics!!!11111111" (idiotic but honest)
2. "hey, my name is john, i drive a 3 litre sports car and look at my muscles" (peacock)
3. "Hey it's only a girl, you guys act like it's something new, grow up"
(the person trying to look mature)

And there's only one thing on all of their minds....

What if number 3 actually IS mature? Or do you in your godlike omniscience know that everyone teenage boy who says that is only trying to look mature?
 
I don't think I have ever seen anyone say "Hi, Heya, Welcome" or anything along those lines when a girl enters chat/game. It's always the list of 3 above.

Not on non-nerdy IRC channels. There are channels out there with normal people and a pretty much 50% girl-boy divide out there...

or at least an apparent 50% girl-boy divide.

Its like that in WOW. Well not the divide but the fact that there aren't horny kids stalking females online. There may be some, but not in any of the well established guilds out there. Kids don't have the patience for any of the challenging end-game content. However...when I would play some CS, dod or anything like that...one person would say they are a girl and people respon "nekkid pics plz" "buttsecks?" "a/s/l nekkid picz?" or "ni hao! keke ^_^"
 
Ultima Online's roleplay community tended to consist of a large number of females. MMORPGs seem really attractive to the fairer sex.

Did he state if it waas a program, or one of those external voice-boxes? Because, its perfectly allowed if it's not actually on the computer, or if it intercepts the vocal sounds after they pass through the microphone but before they reach the client (as opposed to the bannable bit of intercepting the sound as its being sent from the client).

yea, when i see 'girls' online first off, who cares, and secondly i treat them as i would a guy because of stuff like this. >90% of the time it's just some dude. I see it in Diablo II enough, and come on--stop kidding yourself, no women play diablo II.

Diablo II is a bit of a girls game.. its an RPG.. come on.

I've never played it IIRC, but I know someone who has enjoyed it.
 
I just hope more girls end up playing games. Games that right now are considered mostly for guys, the reason being of course that it would result in the idea of a girl gamer no longer being a... Novelty which is good for those girls playing and healthy for those guys who currently don't know what they are doing around women in real life and resort to games as an escape.

It will also help continue to legitimize video games in popular society which at the moment is something the whole industry desperately needs.

Its kind of interesting really when you are living in a university residence. Its really a little micro society in itself where everyone is forced to be very close together. One thing I notice is the differences between the girls and the guys, one of the biggest differences being that even the biggest, coolest, best looking, and... promiscuous guys are really into video games, they played GTA, they played Counter-Strike, and I was the one who told them about Half-Life 2 last year and got them into it. Meanwhile the best looking and coolest girls down the ugliest and least social women have basically no knowledge or interest in video games. In fact a bunch of guys will be in a room talking about a game but then when a girl comes in we almost immediatly change the topic. Even the most confident of guys didn't want to keep talking about video games once a girl was in the room. It was really quite interesting to observe and think about.
 
I hope more girls end up playing games so I'm less likely to have cyber sex with guys.
