Time for real feedback on user titles

Come on chaps, give me a list of user titles you want to see on the forums and if possible the amount of posts needed to acheive them. Until I get some good suggestions and use them you're all going to be stuck as "Member". Exciting, eh?

In the past we've had Half-Life 2 characters/enemies stuck under your names. We could do this still if you really want to or we can do something entirely different. Maybe different enemies/characters from the entire Valve game range or maybe just random funny titles. It's up to you.

Yeah, I like that idea, too. Creating a user title designed specifically for you. Maybe an option we can edit in User CP.

The idea of having tour own title is good and would reduce all the spam posting. But then People wold over Extrvagant thier titles Like ( site Admin) Moderator n the like...

Here's my opinion.

User titles just cause a whole lot of trouble with people putting in immature or inapropriate messages, or just plain annoying ones, like "da boss" or "Moderator".

We should still have ranks involving Halflife2, but the titles should get more impressive as they go up. I mean, someone with 10,000 posts should have a significantly better sounding title than someone with 200. Sometimes it is hard to tell which is better.

Alternatively, we could have pictures (very small ones). for instance, a bar that gets bigger with every 100 posts, or a Crowbar that goes from black to glowing white with time, then people with more than 4,000 posts have a glowing GIF crowbar.

Hey Munro, why don't you start a poll about the titles? It could have the following options:

- Keep the titles as they were
- New HL-related user-titles
- New non-HL-related user-titles
- Custom user titles
- No user-titles (quite revolutionary)

I know a web-forum isn't a democracy, but still ......

I said something lastnight in IRC about basing user titles off the behavior per postcount of the user.

EG. someone with 500+ posts and previous bans and god knows how many warnings can be called a common troll, yet someone with 500+ posts and no previous bans/warnings can be called a forum angel... (with a whole range of titles inbetween)

So, someone like TDE with 6000+ posts and no warnings/bans can get to be called god.

People without enough posts to have a rating should be called forum newbie.

A system like this will make people want to behave better on the forums, as their user title will act as a lasting record of their behaviour, and a sign of how they should expect to be treated by people.


Custom titles just beg to be abused by people, and so does a system that rewards people that post more (everyone will just spam to get their post count up).
