"Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines, is reported to be complete. Unfortunately, it's unable to release thanks to a contractual restriction that prevents its publisher launching the game before Half-Life 2. " - Thank you digi for this quote

This could be a good thing for the HL2 community, it kinda forces valve to get the game out.

Valve doesn't care about them! plus, it gives the vampire dudes more time to squash bugs

God I hope this isnt true. . .I hope valve cares

I feel sorry for the Bloodlines developers. Poor guys want to get their game out and it's being held back by...Valve and their anal retentive insitence to make sure every little tiny pointless piece of crap bug is out of HL2.

Woe, woe!

*Warning - posting is becoming erratic and filled with anger. Rapidly approaching critical mass*

that would suck for the vampire developpers..

If I were bloodlines developers and valve delayed the game, Id release it anyway. Im sure somewhere on the contract there was a date saying they cant release untill after that date. Because say Valve delays it another year? Bloodlines should not have to wait that whole year.

seriously... Valve is ****ing up so much for PC gamers... if they don't get this out by the end of september (which it won't, trust me ;)) i swear there will be a pure rebel against them: DDoS attacks (more than they "already get"... excuses :hmph:), community degrade, and general not nice-ness
this is probably hurt sales as well! people who firmly believe that Valve doesn't deserve the $50 for all the shit that they pull won't give up their money, no matter how gorgeous or kick ass!
mark my words, gentlemen... mark them well.

if you go to this page http://gamesdomain.yahoo.com/feature/38787
you will see HL2 Release Date on 09/21/2004 , so hmmmmm

EDIT : and Yahoo Games Domain looks like pretty sure they will have a HL2 review in the next few weeks.
Fact: We'll have the definitive Half-Life 2 review in the next few weeks...
...barring more release date drama from Valve, that is. Keep checking back, because it shouldn't be long now.

There's still a chance that VTM:B will come out in its scheduled October Release date (Is it October or September? If its September then it'll be delayed).

And i find it kinda sad that, one day when CS:Source is released, everyone love's Valve, and then the next when the HL2 preload is delayed, everyone hates them more then ever.

The true date is unknown, eb games says its gonna be released september first. Doesnt mean its true. Plus yahoo is not that much of a gaming site. I honestly dont think valve can afford another delay. Even more now, with Vampire being finished. I hated Valve yesterday for their false release dates, and I still hate them today. Ill still buy their game though.

Sure they do. But both parties as made an agreement.

I think the same happened with either the engine unreal tournament 2003 or a quake engine.

They got the technology before the game was made, but they were restricted to release the technology before released by ID/Epic.

If the technology is in a other game before the original game's release. It would probably be possible to reverse engineer the engine. And use similar features in an upcoming game.

It might not matter now, since the release date is this close though.

Hmm Im just hoping this will get Valve to think twice about delaying the game.

[rant]I've already decided not to buy HL2 through Steam for sole purpose of making sure most of the money goes to Vivendi rather than Valve. Vivendi is a good publisher that doesn't force releases from its developers. However, Valve seems to be abusing that. I'd much rather my money goes to Vivendi so they can continue to publish for good companies like Blizzard. At this point, I could care less about who publishes Valve or if they have a publisher at all. I think they need to be taught a lesson regaurding deadlines. Specificly, how to determine a reasonable one, and then actually meet it for once.

I'm sick of their complete idiocy when it comes to planning and PR in general. If this game is not 100% bug free upon release, and I mean 100%, there are going to be a lot of pissed off people. I for one am willing to bet the game will be just as buggy as any other game.[/rant] :flame:

Vivendi should tell Valve to get their butts in gear

You lost me at "Vivendi is a good publisher". Cause they're not.

Yes. Blizzard are such a good company because they don't delay anything.

To quote one of those articles:

Blizzard has a long history of delaying games and missing projected release dates. However, such delays have nothing to do with technical issues; they are almost always the result of Blizzard's obsession with detail, depth and balanced gameplay.

Replace Blizzard with Valve and that's still all true. So why is Valve evil, and Blizzard good?

Probably that when Santa-Gabe comes with a present, then they'll want a even bigger present next year. But then they found out Santa didn't exist cause they didn't get their big present :(

Quoted because he's absolutely right.

To tell the truth, I wasn't really looking forwards to this vampire game at all anyways.

And the developers took this risk when they liscenced the engine. It's either this or having a game without Source.
Which do you prefer?

Wow, This must suck for the bloodline developers....in bed

Anyway, this might also hurry on the release of HL2 somewhat, though I do think that Valve won't release it untill it's absolutely ready.

Me not surprised, the vampire game was build on Source, and since its delayed. So will the vampire

heh. :D

But yeah, regardless of however good a developer they are - they need to straighten up their act with their marketing.

And Blizzard has released MANY MANY top-quality games (on multiple engines too), while Valve has released.......one.

mmm. More delays just mean HL2 will get better and better....
up to a point.
And that point is nearing!

You know why vamp cant come out untill after halflife2? If you look at the pictures for vamp, i would personaly say that they really did a better job on the game. I havent played ither mind you but they have had a whole year to add new tech to their game. Valve wouldnt want a game useing their engine to come before their game especialy one that has had alot more bug free development.

The game will go gold soon i bet, sometime in the first half of September.

Think about

The HL2 preload begins on Monday
They said they would release the E3 2004 binks closer to release
They've probably submitted that RC to Vivendi and are either waiting for Vivendi to get back to them, or are working on the second RC.

Don't kid yourselves. I can pretty much guarantee you that Vivendi can do absolutely jack. Any publisher would die to release Half-Life 2, and Valve knows this. Valve is definitely holding all of the cards in this situation, and they'll release it when they're ready. As for everyone whining about delays, it happens to every developer, including the beloved Blizzard. Play balancing is just as important as technical core code. Either of those done improperly will ruin a game. I'm sick and tired of people acting like Valve owes them something. They don't owe you sh*t. So suck it up, get a life outside of your computer, and be patient.

[Edit]
Cyanide, I am not referring to you specifically. Tons of people on the forums make posts like this. Yours just happened to catch my eye in this thread. Nothing personal.

Cause Blizzards community communications isn't as crap as Valve?

A delay is a delay. Wether or not they communicate this information to you does jack to the situation. I don't see how this makes them a somehow worse developer. Key word is "developer". I expect them to make a game. I do not judge a company off of it's PR, because they're PR says little about the game.

And Blizzard has (SURPRISE!) also been around a lot longer! And yet, despite their long existence in PC games, they've really done little more than stick to tried and trued gameplay for practically every game they've made. Remember when WarCraft 3 was supposed to be a completely different game, but then they said "Well, shit. I think we should actually turn this into another RTS"?

Every developer has its black marks. So let's stop making unfair comparisons and just shut up, okay?

P.S. Somebody said Vivendi was a good publisher. This person is wrong beyond all belief.

To defend blizzard I'll just say they have put out alot more games than valve has. Actually to say that outloud is really silly.

Poor Vampire Mascerade. It must be like being stuck behind dude doing 20 in the passing lane.

i think if valve filled the HL2 box with feces, millions of gamers would insert their foul smelling disk into their pc's with a smile.

LMAO couldnt of better said it myself

Last I heard, Masquerade wasn't due until the middle of next year sometime. I don't know where the original quote came from, but it's not in line at ALL with what I've heard.

I know exactly what you mean. Everyone hear loves to flip flop. Everytime valve does something good and nice they're all "OMG THX VALVE!!!!111!!" when they do something MINOR like delay a PRELOAD everyone's all "OMG VALVE Is TEH GAY. I HATZ0rz the VAlve!!111 lolz!!"

There's a good reason why valve isn't letting Bloodlines be released. Because if it were, that would be the first retail game available with the source engine. Now, do you think it's a good idea to let some other company release your engine, have the game possibly suck and then other game developers are all "well since bloodlines didnt use the source engine that well, I guess we won't license it" then valve loses a bunch of money.

I hope everyone got that, i'm typing fast so I'm not sure if everything here makes sense. But you get the idea...

Blizzard's games aren't anywhere near as complicated as Valves. I don't see any eye-popping graphics and physics in warcraft. Do you? I'm not saying blizzard's games suck (well some aren't that good) but the reason they get so many out is because they're simple. Look at diablo 1 & 2 for crying out loud. It's all hack and slash with different skills thrown in to create a bit of variety.

also maybe not for you fanboys but vampire:the masquerade will be a much better action/rpg experience than that silly sci/fi shooter.

why are we comparing a company that mainly produces fantasy rts games to a company that produces fps? They both rock in their own way.
