I just wanted something to do so I made this thread

If I have offended anyone for making this thread I sincerely apologise

DO NOT POST TILL YOU SEE THE POLL!

As for me I am 'Other, please state' and my religion is Vargen (pronounce Varg-en)

Don't really have a relgion...I guess you could say I was a Deist.

Edit:This is what a deist is for everyone that doesn't know...

A belief in God based on reason rather than revelation, and involving the view that God has set the universe in motion but does not interfere with how it runs.

That is one crappy poll. :p
w3rd. (sorry danimal)

some other religions we're likely to see here

Muslim
Hindu
Christian

and the un-religions:

Athiest
Agnostic
"Spiritual but not religious"

oh and its "Buddhist",. Buddha is a guy.. kinda like saying Christ is a religion ;)

Sorry =(

I am not really an expert on te subject of religions

lol Don't specify some sect of Christianity... just say Christianity. And where's the option for Anti-Religious?

There's always google. And surely you've heard of a few more major world religeons (or Christian denominations)? The poll options you have listed account for less than a quarter of religious people worldwide.

Whoa this poll sucks. You need options like:

-Catholic
-Christian (protestant, orthadox, etc.)
-Islam
-Hindu
-Buddha
-Scientology
-Agnostic
-Atheist
-Jewish
-Other

And blah blah blah blah blah the list goes on.

Do you hate religion, poksmote?

I believe it does more harm then good, and that it should be kept out of politics. "Faith" is not a good reason to follow a president to war.

Religion itself is like mental terrorism, a form of thought control. Half of the United States will vote for Bush on Tuesday, mainly on the ground that they believe in his Christian values and faith based political agenda. Churches are instructing people that voting for Bush is the right thing to do.

A world where social norms are not based around religious values would far better humanity. Religion is the main cause for war, suffering, and intolerance. It is a disease plaguing mankind, and should not be society's primary source for social norms. It is brainwashing nonsense and nothing more.

Bot 'o boy I don't know if I should poke my nose into this debate... Religious debates = shit storms on forums.

Must fight the urge....

I don't care to debate, I'm simply expressing my opinions. You can't convince someone to believe in something, or not to believe in something. Religion is personal preference and opinion, and it should be kept that way -- outside of the law making government.

So your opinion is that religion should just 'go away' and everyone become an atheist / agnostic?

Kind of off the subject, but I've always found it kind of funny how humans have to classify everything. We have classifications for all sorts of things and expect everyone to fit into them somehow. This seems to be true from religion to politics and for everything in between. Everyone is labeled something such as democrat, republican, liberal, conservative, libertarian, socialist, atheist, agnostic, christian, buddhist, muslim etc etc.

Sure it's convenient, but in some ways I think it actually is detrimental to society by creating stereotypes and contributing to generalizations. In reality people rarely fit labels. Yet, the instant someone says, "I'm a democrat" or "I'm a christian" they are judged based on that label rather than who they actually are.

Just my random late night thoughts.

As for religions I always liked the term non-theist.

I think he was saying that thinks people can believe what they want, but that it shouldn't interfere with government or society in general. That's the way I took it atleast. He's welcome to correct me if I misunderstood though.

Edit: Nvm, he explained himself.

I believe it should be kept personal. It would be impossible to make it "go away", I just believe society can descern it's own values without help from religion. That, and the president should not believe he is "doing God's work". Bush jumps to conclusions based on faith over of fact. This should not be tolerated.

Well labels are never gonna go away...thats how we humans are I guess. :(

I'd prefer just one label: "human"

I think that about covers it. :)

Neutrino, good sig! George Carlin is brilliant. He's been railing against religion forever. Carlin for President '04 :farmer:

Anyone who can describe, in detail, how to smoke weed on an airplane is truely a great man.

I consider myself a person believing that an unknown supreme being started it all, but not like anything stated in the religious books like the Bible / Koran / etc.

I worship my Overlord from the 6th dimension.

Well it is true my poll sucks =/

Maybe a mod can fix it and add:

-Catholic
-Christian
-Islam
-Hindu
-Buddha
-Scientology
-Agnostic
-Atheist
-Jewish
-Other

Jedi ;)
Enough people wrote it on their census in Britain for it to be classed as a religion but Tony Blair wouldn't allow it :(

If I was him I wouldn't ether.... :|

what's wrong with labels? stop being pussies, jesus. labels are perfectly normal, perfect good tools of understanding if they are based on substantive distinctions. w/o the ability to reduce and classify, life never would have evolved out of the primordial soup. if you have a problem with the way some people use labels, remember that it's the way the person thinks that you dislike, not the label itself. being judgmental arises from stupidity, not classification.

tron: by your definition of deist, you seem to be implying that you have a rational foundation for you belief in god.. i'm curious to know what that rational foundation is.

A topic which always stirs the masses ;)

I choose "other" because I would have to say a combo depending on the day and how things are going.

Athiest a good portion of the time because of my cicrumstances.

Agnostic now and then when HOPING there is some reason for being here.

And...have even dabbled in Satanism during a very down time in my life.

hah, something similar happened here in australia, though i can't remember, was a few years ago :X

that wuld be awesome though, jedi a 'official' religion +)

I believe in God, i believe he is up there looking over us, i believe in Heaven and Hell and the after life. I do not believe in religion, when most religions would tell me that half of my friends are unworthy under the eyes of god due to their beliefs or their sexuality, they can kiss my bum. God made every man, woman and child equal, so why should i believe religions who persecute, murder, alienate and ruin the lives of people they don't believe are worthy under the name of God.

Crappy poll, almost like I'd made it! three options... And you didn't even take the three largest religions.
NEWSFLASH: The three biggest religions are: Christianity(1.9 billion), Islam(1.1 billion), Hinduism(781 million). Buddism comes 4th and Judaism comes 10th.

(sorry for being an arse)

I am not in any religion and i never will be.

I don't like the concept of religion, since it basically involves guarding something with your own life and to slay/convert anyone that isn't part of it.
I prefer the word life philosophy, or personal belief.

I go for both buddhism and gnosticism, they both involve walking the path to enlightenment so they're very much alike. Heck, pretty much every religion is so much like others I'm sure they all are nothing but "hints" to the truth.

I believe the concept of "god" is not one person, but that all beings that exist are part of a huge collective consciousness, the Absolute, which is mistakenly looked upon as an individual, God. To join it is to become one with everything, to have complete happiness and bliss and to remember everything that the absolute has experienced through the beings that have experienced it.

In my opinion, one should not be forced or "converted" into any religion against his will, but to be respected for his beliefs. If you are happy with your life philosophy/religion, then it is the one for you.

I am part of the religion of non-religion

I reject all spirituality as it is a waste of time to ponder the meaning of something that doesnt exist
