whats wrong with people...

I can't help but make a reference to that anime series called Higurashi no naku koro ni. But yeah, sick.

That's crazy. Nothing you can do but look away or laugh at the craziness of the world. Don't let it get you down, it just is.

People with mental illness are not responsible for their illnesses, but they are responsible for their actions.

I'm in no way defending the actions of this thunder **** but this is completely false. There are reasons why people are not cinvicted of crimes due to insanity or other mental illnesses.

This woman will obviously be spending the rest of her life taking pills from a small plastic cup in a mental institution, but she won't be in a maximum security prison.

It's still just an excuse. I doesn't change the fact that she's a murderer and is now just going to be a burden to society. If she was raised atheist, the excuse just would've been different, like postpartum depression or something.

but, most atheists nor investigators would hold no weight to the 'devil made me do it" thing anyways and just "dismiss" her as insane.

I hold no weight to any excuse. She still should be punished like in the old days with an oak tree and rope. Our current recession has no room for people like this.

EDIT> and her husband/boyfriend should be administered 40 lashings for being a lout.

This is very very silly. By your logic, the mental and physically disabled are burdens on society and should be killed as not to hurt the economy. Same goes for the elderly and the poor.

You condemn her to death for having killed, yet you see no hypocrisy in this what-so-ever. On top of that you're condemning a clearly insane woman (more on that soon) to death for actions she was not responsible for, which leads me to this....

No they are not. The very definition of being mentally ill is not being able to control your actions. If you have a severe mental illness (like I believe this woman more than likely has) it affects your view of reality and your ability to reason. That's why they have laws about locking up the legally insane.

As for the woman, I believe she's clearly insane. A woman in her 30's with no prior convictions suddenly kills her 3 week old child in such a horrific manner, that says to me that something broke/is broken upstairs.

As for what happened... It's terrible. Absolutely terrible. I think the best thing that can come of this tragedy, is hopefully we're able to learn so it doesn't happen again.

If anybody makes a joke about this I will virtually rip them in two.

I cried and cried after hearing this.

Couple months back this mom killed her son had second thoughts brought him back and decided to go ahead. Thinking since no one loved her no one will love him. People are messed up. Something happen to these people not just moms. People do not do anything about it and just say oh she is fine but all of a sudden the person snaps. Once again someone in this family or close nit community chose to look the other way. I lived next to a crazy lady with a little girl I would be on the phone but thats just me.

This is so true. Theres no way that neighbors didn't see any strange behavior coming from this house. Maybe they could have had a chance to prevent something from happening.

So: I disagree!

Consider this discussion resolved!
The very definition of being mentally ill is not being able to control your actions.

Well um yeah no not really? Depending on the mental illness of course. Anyway yes, my initial statement was a very broad one, I agree, and not always true. What I feel though is that it is the responsibility of those with a mental illness (a relatively manageable one, of course), to take care of themselves and others by establishing certain safeguards and protections, when they are able. If that means not being left alone to look after your young child, then they should do that. I disagree with people using mental illness as a crutch to explain their actions. Of course, we have no idea how this applies to the case this thread is about, as we don't have enough information.

I tend to think with logic and less emotion. I just can't change that about me. Pure arithmetic and nothing else.
I know that makes me look like an ass, but oh well. I don't try to make new friends these days.
I do show a soft spot though for those who genuinely try.

...and about the elderly and physically disabled, they can't help their situation and I believe they should always be eligible for state support, although I still question why family members can't take care of them or put them in a privately funded home instead of making the whole world pay their way. There should always be alternate means first before turning to taxpayers and being too sorry to take care of your own family is not an excuse. If they had no stable family and/or no family at all, then that is a good, legitimate excuse.

On Topic: Mental illnesses is just too iffy an excuse for me.

I just can't help but to wonder if this Sanchez bitch made the killing as gruesome as possible so she could claim insanity and get away from punishment for her crime against humanity.

I've always been iffy on mental illness's. Because half the time, they just seem like an excuse.
Now I'm not saying that they're a lie, because they're clearly not, but they can easily become one. Still haven't made my mind up about this one though.

Pffff, some wrong stuff goes on out there. Easiest option is to glaze over it, but that's not fair, as it should always stand as a testoment in our minds, so that we may learn from the mistakes.
