Wivenhoe is an accomplished-looking single-player mod set just before the fall of Ravenholm, casting the player as part of a smalll uprising attempting to stop the bombardment by destroying the headcrab cannons stationed at the Wivenhoe Dam, upriver from the ill-fated Village of the Dead. Obviously, they failed. This is their story.[br]

Horrible presentation and distribution, but I don't care. If the mod is good it will be worth it anyway. Going slooow atm... :p

just played this through its not the worst mod out there but its definatly short ... and the ending seemed bugged to me I ended up jumping across the bridge because a never-ended stream of ant lions kept coming... kinda let down ending as well :(

poor level design, a neverending supply off enemies especially at the bridge section, poor enemy placement
it was so unfair that i was cheating by the time i got my first real weapon - when you first get a gun you then proceed immediately into a section with no less than 12-16 combine soldiers in squads in a very tight area where their AI would be at its best with limited ammo :(

However, there is praise - the scary parts were excellently chorepgraphed and far too short - I really enjoyed that part - it was atmospheric, varied light and dark and limited the amount of foes that were thrown at you, clearly the mapmaker/modder should have made a horror mod with that kind of ability - the rest was just bad bad bad :(
 
Haven't actually played it yet - but I've figured out why the download is so big. It's due to maps/soundcache - there's around 131MB of data in there, including nearly 40MB referring to nonexistent maps. Data that gets regenerated on the first loading of the map if it's not present already.

To the mapper: go on, repackage. You know you want to! ;-)
 
At the end you have to wait a long ass time before the girl detonates the car. I mean holy crap! It does not take that long to set up a charge like that. That was pretty gay on the developer's part. Also the scariness they claimed to have was pretty much just surprising people and using darkness. It was ok scary but definitely not Doom 3 material. But the fog stuff was pretty cool, did surprise me a lot on some parts but others were too predictable.
 
Ummmm.... I got a 'maps' folder... with no maps...

crappy from start to finish.. i didnt find the horror sections scary at all, although the first fast zombie made me jump a bit.
 
Atmosphere is spot on, but the gameplay is terrible. Waves of respawning enemies and a trial and error "stealth" section - and that's the first few minutes. I haven't got any further yet because the game keep crashing, probably due to incompatible encoding in the radio message sound files which I'm going to delete seeing as they are unintelligible anyway.

The new rar is far more efficient, but it's now sacrificing load times. The modder should read up on sound caches and how to use them. Not that it's his fault, nobody seems to understand about them...

Edit: playing the rest confirmed it. Atmosphere is brilliant, but everything else severely lacking. This guy would be great as part of a team!
 
when i saw the title i was like wtf? wivenhoe thats the town i live in,.... no really it is
 
I played a bit of it, things I wondered about:

Was I supposed to start with 1 health?

Was I supposed to be able to understand the message at the start?

The mapping in someplaces... I was thoroughly confused, I walk out of a passage way and down onto a walkway, it looked so weird.

Zombies randomly spawned right next to me without doing anything...

Otherwise, It was quite cool.

Got to agree with that. Not much cop at all I'm afraid.
 
There is some very nice design in this game, but hate the hordes of bugs!!!.

Please all other map creators please don't ruin your maps with bugs or zoombies. Some other gameplay error I don't understand...

When I did start this game I was standing on a ledge with combines patroling a huge vally. Did re start it 5-6 time as could not complete it (to hard).

So after some re-tries and a new re-start ops I't did re-start in a new place with combines shooting at me with a bridge over....

Anyway.... some errors in here but I am so desperate after some new maps so i just had to try this.
 
ok i thought this was a ok mod some of the mapping was cool, the part inside with the zombies did not make me jump, this mod would be alot better if it was bigger and longer and had more weapons.
but all in all its ok peace

Indeed. It's fun to look at but not fun to play. (This guy could work with the guy who made "prison break" and design the level with the other in charge of gameplay)
