    XSI - Extrude along Curve

One of the 3DBuzz videos does exactly this: extrudes along a curve then alters the number of sections in it etc. If you haven't watched them I suggest you give them a look, they should quite a few handy things.

    help with lines

Sounds like you should be selecting the face and extruding that instead of the lines around it. EDIT: Posted this before I saw you managed it in your last pic.

    Biomechanoid

Fenric why is it nurbs are better to use for normal mapping? I don't really know much about them yet. From what I can tell they seem to be sort of surfaces generated between curved lines, to give a smooth organic look. Are nurbs basically used to to create the shape you want then you convert it...

    Thor/Summoner battlemech

Oh? Never tried zbrush, or heard much about it. I'll have to give it a go, cheers :) Know any good sites that show how to normal map in it?

    Vehicle (warning:amateur modelling)

The rounder something is, the more polygons it has. Compare a cube to a sphere, 6 polys in a cube, a lot more in a sphere. To reduce that to a low enough poly count for HL2 you might want to reduce the smoothness of the rollcage bars. A cylinder with 8 sides might work ok for that. Look around...

    Thor/Summoner battlemech

I'm actually planning on trying to do an animation with it. But my current goal is getting damn normal mapping to work, that would make it a lot easier to work with than it's current form. It is quite frustrating, I have got the plugins and stuff sorted, I downloaded a demo scene of a normal...

Anyone modeling with XSI|EXP for HL2?

I haven't found anywhere with good instructions on how to actually do it. The ones I've been looking through are: http://www.drone.org/ http://www.cgtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=76182&highlight=normal http://www.soclab.bth.se/practices/orb.html...

Anyone modeling with XSI|EXP for HL2?

Ah ok, I think I understand. Cheers :) Not really used nurbs yet, I'll have to get round to that.

    UV mapping

Easy description of a uv map: think of a globe, that is your model. A world map is basically a uv map of the globe. It is the mesh 'flattened' out. What a uv map is for is you unwrap the model, then you have a template to paint textures onto. Once you have the texture the uv map controls how...

Anyone modeling with XSI|EXP for HL2?

Aye normal mapping is very impressive. I'm actually trying to do it in Maya, but so far I'm not having luck. Followed some instructions but part the way through it says to scroll down in the attribute editor for the shader I made and put in the normal map etc. but when I try that stuff isn't...
