actually unless your refering to pre beta 5 of cs which was absolutly 100% different than the cs you play today than valve did make cs. It's a totally different game than pre beta 5.

i don't see how that would effect costs of a game made at all in any way. Since the fact of the matter is 80% or so industry contracts the developers profits pay for the cogs. That article just tells me that they don't understand exactly how developer/publisher relationships work.
No its making completely compatible tools with a totally different engine built off an old api. Backwards compatible game engines, do not exist. You can take a hl map and recompile it to work in source, presto. The innovation lies within the technology behind being able to 'convert' mods...
cadaveca, the fact is they never did optimize for nv35, so the logic of calculating dates based on optimisation timing is flawed. they just revert to dx8 for nv3x hardware. Kinda throws your whole rationalization out the window.

You don't have to innnovate cs:S because its considered a port of 1.6. That was the point of doing it. To see how an mp mod of the original could easily be ported to source.
