actually thats wrong... if you have steam remember your account info and login info the game will have offline mode for a week... but you have to be online at least once a week to reauthenticate...

um i think those are what you call compressed files... im pretty sure that it will need to be installed for it to actually work... the steam directory your talking about is only where it stores the files it downloads

Sorry to rain on your parade but it has been discovered you will need the cds or dvd to install the game

You would have to if you dont back up the files before you reformat... just backup the files before you format... steam allows you to do that... steam://backup/ is the commandline command you need to use ou also have to remember if you got a steam package with Dod:s you wont be getting...

that would probably work but i understand why you would still need the cds... since there is 2 retail versions steam would need to know which ones as it only asks for the key when you register it...

true but it would only be treated as an alternate method of getting the game... retail methods will always be used... valve said that their games will always be available in retail stores...

i just hoped since the street date was broken they allow stores to at least start selling it... this way we can start playing right away when its unlocked just like the steam users

Oh, i know you can buy steam and "get a better deal" but you fail to also realize not everyone has a fast enough inet connection to preload hl2.. so to some people getting it via steam isnt an option... and i still say evven if the ce may be done cheaply its still better than nothing...

i accept it because i accept the fact that valve or any other company can give us the game in whatever shape its in.... if you dont like it thats Tough... dont buy retail games again... but as long as you buy games retail accept the FACT that you will get what they give you and in the shape...
