Yea those BTX and PCI-X slots are sexy. I swear i'm not obsessed. Seriously though, that should do you just fine for till at least year end. I mean most games will probably run on that under low graphics for 2 or 3 years. But only LOSERS run low graphics... and no one wants to play with...

You could probably pick up a copy of 2000 Pro for a hundred bucks cheeper. It's effectively the same design on the back end, only it's not such a ram hog. If the hundred is no big deal though, then XP is probably the best choice. Now XP pro is real nice, but it's like 200 more then XP home.

Yea 98 SE does have a lot of problems all over the place. Not nearly as bad as 95 was though ::shudders:: it could just be a compadibility issue. On a semi-related note, isn't microsoft going to stop supporting 98 at the end of the year?

I'm thinking about throwing Linux on an old P3 600Mhz system i have, just to tinker with it a little. Anyone have recomendations on which to get? I've heard of Linux, Lindows, and like two other flavors of Linux. And any recomendations where to get em?

And in a lot of cases you can't even upgrade the ram if it's built in. Sometimes the hard drive is built in too. They usally use a propritary hard drive or ram type too, so you can't just pick up generic ones at the local computer store.

I love winamp 5 but i've heard the ripping isn't very good, so steer clear of it. I don't think the quality suffers, i just heard that it goes much much slower then most other rippers.
