Yeah I got this yesterday (as well as the incredible dissapearing game cache) both problems were solved by shutting Steam down and restarting it 10 minutes later.
We shouldn't have to do that but until the Steam servers respond in a more timely and complete manner (bandwith is still the...
Also even if you installed the precached package Half Life will take some time to start up because it is being unpacked and set up for use. Which doesn't happen at installation. This can take a while depending on what kit you have.
No NS installer BUT you shouldn't really need it.
If you have HL working ok under steam simply install (or copy your current existing installation) under the SteamApps/<yourEmailhere>/Half Life directory and in theory, bob's your uncle.
NS should now appear under third party games.
^^ The voice of reason.
Other people don't seem to be so lucky though. ;)
I'm going to download the full installer just in case *something happens* but I don't really expect to have to use it.
Yeah when it's working it's great. Definitely two thumbs up! :)
My only real concern is the release of Halflife 2 bringing it all back down to earth with a bump.. Although polls suggest people are more likely to get the boxed version so maybe that won't be such an issue.
I really hope...
I think I'm right in assuming the resource verification dealie is thanks to not having the stuff downloaded fast enough.
Granted this wasn't an issue under the Beta but I guess it's because there was a lot more bandwith floating around then.
There shouldn't be much problem.. I mean if you're looking flush down the side of the surface it may look a little hinky but otherwise it should look great.. Normal mapping really is particularly groovy.
Lol. Looks cool..

Although I'd expect boats and things to be a bit more on their sides than sunk into the ground if the water dissapeared. ;)

Lol!
Well uh, yeah.. I guess that works.
I've just killed off all previous installs.. Deleted the reg keys the directories et al and rebooted/installed again with the CS/HL steam package.
Which is working Ok so far. *touch wood* As long as the steam servers see fit to sign me in (about...
I guess. I couldn't get steam to convert over my HL stuff anyway. It just froze halfway through the process. :(
So I've kind of pretended that never happened and I'm soldiering onwards with the CS/HL only install of Steam..
