I think that when it goes gold (and the last preload is downloaded), the game is unlocked for steam buyers/ati coupon holders. Which means that people buying via steam or have a coupon get to play hl2 weeks before store-buyers do. ....valve get a bigger margin off steam-bought hl2's because...

i don't know if the actual audio is 1 gig, the source shared materials file was also 1gig but only 500mb got actually downloaded. Is steam really downloading 1 gig of audio or is it less?

hey maybe they'll scratch the game and release an 8 hour bink full of gameplay instead :P

It would be cool of valve to put in a 'fake' script, with some similarities to the stuff we've already seen.... "Why would they spend so much time on putting in a fake script?" Maybe it's another 'test' ;) i mean they went a long way just to put those 2 test in the preload....... imagine all...

too bad there won't be one until after release.... i'd love that. I've been so into half-life2 that no other game (not even doom3) interests me. I can't seem to put myself to a game longer than half an hour or so, before i get anxious to check the forums again :)

a key from a site won't work, because there's only 1 key per copy of hl2 (which is bound to your steam account) and probably keygenerators won't work either.

there's a singleplayer only version, a 'normal' version with multiplayer and a collectors edition
