The term "going gold" is derivated from the following:
"when a game is ready to be sent for distribution, a golden master cd is created for duplication at the distribution factory."
Now that rarely happens nowadays, but basically it means it's done :) and going to local gamestores around...
I think that when it goes gold (and the last preload is downloaded), the game is unlocked for steam buyers/ati coupon holders. Which means that people buying via steam or have a coupon get to play hl2 weeks before store-buyers do.
....valve get a bigger margin off steam-bought hl2's because...
i don't know if the actual audio is 1 gig, the source shared materials file was also 1gig but only 500mb got actually downloaded.
Is steam really downloading 1 gig of audio or is it less?
It would be cool of valve to put in a 'fake' script, with some similarities to the stuff we've already seen....
"Why would they spend so much time on putting in a fake script?" Maybe it's another 'test' ;) i mean they went a long way just to put those 2 test in the preload....... imagine all...
about that other topic; plz be more careful before calling people assholes valdiorn. I started that thread to warn people not to open the thread "PS3.0? i just bought an ati card!" because i opened it right after it was started and it contained spoilers. Trying to warn people makes me an...
too bad there won't be one until after release.... i'd love that. I've been so into half-life2 that no other game (not even doom3) interests me. I can't seem to put myself to a game longer than half an hour or so, before i get anxious to check the forums again :)
the fx5200 is really something that dirties nvidia's name. even the geforce4 mx440 performed better than it.
Anyway. Both cards (6800 & X800) are good. One is faster in opengl rendering (nvidia), the other's less power-hungry, noisy, etc. The point is, you can't put a finger on a card because...
ok if it's really true that because of any database/server problem all accounts were open to 'hack' (what i read on that site in the replies of users under the news statement), it's fake. Then again, none of this has any meaning whatsoever until someone from valve responds :)
Whatever...
a key from a site won't work, because there's only 1 key per copy of hl2 (which is bound to your steam account)
and probably keygenerators won't work either.
i don't get how a useless and rethorical topic like this could grow so fast.... rethorical (pardon my dutch;)) because; why plea people not to download something that is meant for everyone?
