UT2K4 seems like a very polished and fine-tuned game, but it lacks in the gameplay department, IMO. The weapons don't feel right and the objectives in Onslaught and Assault are uninteresting. The 94% or 5/5 stars scores are too high.
I quoted PlanetDoom just to end the confusion. Carmack's game engines always have a lot of headroom for tweaking. Anyone with a remotely decent computer should get sufficient performance in Doom3.
I enjoyed the 2nd demo just as much as the first. A big plus for the 2nd demo is the large jungle combat in the beginning of the level. Since you can't take out a dozen enemies all at once, you're forced to come up with a strategy. Which enemy will be taken out first? Where can you take cover...
The anouncement that Doom3 would be released in April was fake. Todd Hollenshead said in his .plan update that the official release date is still "When it's done".
Id Software doesn't pay too much attention to the E3 as they have their own QuakeCon event in August.
Two speakers AND a sub-woofer under the desk, of course. Just plain two speakers is crap, IMO. A simple sub-woofer doesn't cost that much and adds a lot of depth to the sound.
It's the same scenario as with the Quake3 engine. Q3A was originally pretty much restricted to small, mainly indoor maps. When the hardware advanced, bigger areas could be rendered. This resulted in the terrain maps from Team Arena and RTCW.
No doubt that after a few years the Doom3 engine...

"Concept art" is used in the planning stage of game development, to give the artists an idea about the theme of the game and to aid them in creating the actual game art. The screenshots you showed all show...
The fact that you mistakenly identified an ingame Doom3 screenshots as concept art proves that the Doom3 engine indeed supports very high quality graphics. :cheese:
At the moment, Far Cry is the only game being developed on the CryTek engine, whereas several games are being developed on the Doom3 engine. The CryTek engine can produce nice graphics, but stability, performance and customisability are also important factors for game developers.
Honestly, quality put aside, a game with a nearby, fixed release date naturally generates more hype then a game with a distant, indefinite release date.
Consider this: the closer you get to Christmas, the more people get hyped about all the presents and other Christmas stuff. It's the same...
Lol, that's purely a matter of taste. From my point of view, Far Cry has an awesome 'feeling'. Best tropical atmosphere I've ever seen in a game. The music also adds a lot of suspense. Level design is also pretty good. Much less linear then Max Payne 2 or CoD.
Thanks Gorgon!
That's an awesome map! Great visuals and tough fights.
Now that there's a second demo map, I feel more confident that Far Cry will actually be released on March 26.
It was GameSpot who posted the fake release date, not Activision.
Oh, and FOUR threads about the Doom3 release date? Why is it so difficult for people to reply to an existing thread instead of creating yet another thread with the same topic?
I must admit I was excited there for about a minute.
But April 15 is simply too soon. Id Software always releases a demo or a beta a couple of weeks before the full version. Quite frankly, I'm not expecting a demo of some sort by next week. These things are announced way in advance.
