Seeing this pic in the steam forums is one of the reasons I thought of this poll. Theres another in there, a far more botched job some guy did putting Alyx's face on a naked angel. Both picts I think are creepy looking. Her face does not look human enough to be on a real body.

And Alyx is not that big..

But the real Alyx is still hot.

Reality is subjective. A lot of the pictures magazine covers are heavily airbrushed, the models are wearing lots of makeup, and the lighting is adjusted just right. They have fake breasts, fake lips, fake noses. Do you call that real? Not to mention that you are never going to see these people in real life, so to you they are just as intangible.

Just like falling for a character in a book, as Glo suggested, a character does not need to be real for us to feel something for them. We're not talking obsesson or dillusion,. merely harmless infatuation contained well within the knowledge that the character is fictional.

And lets not forget, as technology increases, it will be much harder to tell what is real and what is not. What then? What would you say about infactuation for a rendered model when you yourself cannot tell the difference?

Feeling attracted to someone is just an emotion. People feel emotions for made up character all the time, whether that character is in a book, on a TV show, or in a game. I don't see why people saying a videogame character is attractive is "sad" or "wrong" or any different than feeling any other emotion about them really.

For example what if you were attracted to a women's personality in a movie? It's not real at all. She's just acting. But how exactly is that different?
