Assassin's Creed Review?

Good thing that video applet didn't load properly for me, because I copied the URL after quoting you to get it in a new window and it's the Super Mario Galaxy spoiler video. :|

Yes, that's really odd. I can't even find the video on Gametrailers and I just watched it 10 minutes ago... maybe they weren't supposed to show it yet. In any case, here's the correct youtube version of it:

Oh. I thought you were posting the spoiler video on purpose. Nevermind :D

Somehow I get the feeling this Altair character is kind of arrogant.

Rgr, doesnt sound that bad at all.

It will be interesting using this new control scheme.

Lack of jumping is SO over-rated though. I don't get why anyone is pissed about that since some developers are removing jump from their games... It's not like AC is the first. Not by a long shot.

I do want to see how fighting plays out though. I realize it can't be totally action-packed since it would be really hard because they're making it semi-realistic.

Exactly.

DooM anyone?

stupid exams, might haveto wait until xmas for this :(

AHAHAHAH!

Game Informer:

"By designating all actions as high or low profile, movement becomes less about individual button presses and more about situational observation. Further, each face button is like a part of the body that changes contextually to match the situation. In a fight, your open hand button might grab a foe, but when running along rooftops the same button will reach for a distant ledge. While seemingly a minor variation on a familiar theme, this approach to control is one of the game?s greatest triumphs."

and

"An entirely new approach to controls is a tremendous success – as intuitive as it is functional"

I love to say it, even if I come off as a prick.

Told ya so.

Disclaimer:

I really think you guys have a valid argument, and I realize that we won't actually know if the controls are crap until the individual has played it. However I think this review indicates that we have nothing to worry about. :)

AhHHH thank you science! Im hyped now, gah damn my rig will be too shitty to run it though :\.
EDIT: lol I was going to quote the same thing topgun. All this time we've been bitching and it comes out perfect :p.

I am just wondering how the intuitive control scheme for the console controllers is going to translate to the PC and its usually unbeatable KBM...

Ideas?

Heh, I want to buy a new amplifier for my guitar so unfortunately this is gonna have to wait a few weeks :\ But I'm really looking forward to play Assassin's Creed

This is my single worry and the reason why I will be getting it for Xbox 360 and not PC.

My guess is, left click = left hand, right click = right hand, space = body, shift = head.

Yikes! All the while trying to move with WASD? Sounds tough. I wonder if this isn't the main reason behind the PC delay...:)

Maybe it can be played with a pad on the pc?

I'd be just as concerned about losing analogue movement - especially for a game that promotes sneaking/stealth. Keyboard movement sucks balls for anything like this.

Yeah. Hopefully it works well on the PC with the windows version of the Xbox360 controller.

Wha? It'd be like controlling every other first- or third-person game ever, only you have to hold down space every once in a while so that you can climb a wall.

I have a nice 20 Logitech game pad that is an exact clone of the dual shock (minus the shock). Such a great investment! :D

I believe what he was getting as is the same as what Warbie is getting at in the sense that you lose the ability to finely set your characters movement speed.

Oh. Yeah, that's true. Which is why I'll be playing it on the 360 :)

something to think about when reading these early reviews ..Ubisoft allowed reviewers an early review of the game but with a whole bunch of conditions, those that didnt agree with Ubisoft's demands didnt get an early review ..what those conditions were is unknown however it wasnt a paid review ..the editor of Shacknews confirmed all this and said the conditions were enough that they passed on an early review

so take the early reviews with a grain of salt, these people agreed to certain conditions before even starting the review process

If the late reviews do turn out bad, I'll just not open it and return it a few days later, maybe rent it.

Thanks Stern I almost preordered a copy. :(

Got to be careful round ubisoft these days.

*hopes this game and SC 5 will be good*

Yes I said it I don't think SC 5 looks very good. *holds up flame shield*

I'm sure Assassins creed will be a great game and will score well ..it might be the difference between a 8.9 and a 9.5 but that might be enough to dissuade some

Pfft, I pre-ordered it. It's gonna be fine. Don't let this stop you people from pre-ordering.

Don't worry, most people feel the same way :p

I'm sure the game will turn out exactly as I expect it to. A big, expansive world, slightly spotty AI, a cool story, and fight mechanics that don't quite work the way they should. The latter won't be a problem for me at all though, because I know I'll be getting into as few fights as possible. I'm going to get all the intel I need, silently stalk my target, take him out, and escape with none the wiser.

Good point. I am very curious what these early conditions were. Surely they were different than Valve inviting all of the major reviewers to come and play the game at their studio?

I'm going to build a trebuchet and launch rocks into the cities to kill my targets from far away.

yes, but valve didnt impose any conditions ..these were specific conditions on the way it was reviewed

FYI, I think most reviewers have integrity enough to withhold from posting a positive review at all, if they doubted the game's effectiveness to deliver. Sure I may play it, and maybe I'll agree to not be overly harsh about it, but if I felt it was sub-par I simply wouldn't write a review at all until it was released.

idk if it's me but that reminds me of sony telling reviewers they were reviewing lair wrong.
