Assassin's Creed Review?

FYI, I think most reviewers have integrity enough to withhold from posting a positive review at all, if they doubted the game's effectiveness to deliver. Sure I may play it, and maybe I'll agree to not be overly harsh about it, but if I felt it was sub-par I simply wouldn't write a review at all until it was released.

that's not very realistic ..the early reviews went to the big gaming media companies, if they agreed, it was as a result of wanting an exclusive or at least an early review that would see print before launch ..delaying the release of the review just to accomodate personal feelings goes completely against why they wanted it in the first place ..taking out a 4 page review days or weeks before the issue sees print is not exactly the easiest thing to do as they have to find somethig to replace plus lose their window of opportunity

Well, I think most of them would have self respect enough to not blatantly lie and be criticized for it after the fact.

yes, but too many would leap up and take the bait ..Shacknews can afford to pass on the review ..print magazines would be foolish to pass it up

New Assassin's Creed review ...as always take with a grain of salt seeing as how they agreed to certain conditions ..and it's a print magazine, they're almost always a lot more lenient than online only media sites

Reviewer Todd Melick did backflips over the game's heady mix of action and stealth.

There is no denying the quality and depth inherent in Assassin's Creed. It is a stellar addition to Ubisoft's already impressive portfolio and gives gamers yet another reason to be excited for the upcoming holidays!

it's hype-errific!

Ubisoft to rename title
UbiSoft, in agreement with publishers, announced today that it would rename its "Assassins Creed" to a more appropriate title; Splinter Cell: The Crusades. Further information will be available later.

Interesting.

It's hard to put the sheer size and brilliance of Assassin's Creed into words. It is an epic game that you have to experience for yourself. I will caution that the game is not for the impatient or the faint of heart. While you can plow through the main storyline in under 20 hours, to truly get every single last shred of gaming goodness, you will probably have to put in twice that number. The enormity of the game will probably turn off gamers expecting a fast-paced action title but remember that an assassin's greatest tool is patience. Approach this game with that frame of mind and you will be rewarded with one of the best gaming experiences around

Sold. Where do i sign?

Awesome trailer!

You say that now, but after seeing it every single commercial break during the new South Park (the one with Guitar Hero) it gets old! There were probably ten solid minutes of Assassin's Creed trailer during that one show, and more after.

Haven't seen it before. Haven't been watching Comedy Central lately. And Certainly not South Park...

That was ****ing annoying.

Dear God, it feels as though the trailer's close to 5 minutes long.

This game always makes me 'want it now!' everytime i see something new about it. 6 more days baby..just 6 more days...

Video 8 was awesome, i just sat there going 'no ***king way...'

I don't understand the "futuristic" stuff. The text and flashing on the screen is pretty annoying. Are you reliving someone's past memories? Killing ancestors of certain people to change the state of the world in the present? Time travel? It's a neat idea, but I think it takes away from the game's atmosphere if they're going to put a bunch of fake computer code and "error" messages everywhere.
It's part of the storyline for the game. Not a whole lot has been revealed, but it has to do with research into something called "genetic memory", which is the idea that your DNA is coded with memories from earlier humans in your ancestry. These memories are what controls and shapes your basic instincts, but they can be so detailed that in some cases entire lifetimes of your ancestors can be retrieved from your DNA structure. So I guess the game is presented as the retrieval of ancient memories of an assassin who happened to be your great-great-great-great-great-[ad infinitum]-grandfather. All the times you die are chalked up to errors (or "desynchronization") in the memory retrieval procedure, and "respawning" at a checkpoint is called "resynchronization".

There's no telling how successful it'll be as an actual story, but I think it's a pretty neat idea.

Unless it actually has a significant purpose in the storyline, it just sounds like a hand-waving attempt to justify video game cliches. :|

Rent it first if you don't like how it sounds?

Interesting.
Where did you get this quote pesmerga? Anyways after what stigmata said, my interest is really peaked now. Thats a really kick ass idea in my opinion and makes sense why they would rename it as such.
EDIT: harhahr nvm

They're not renaming it you cock :p

It's almost too true that the sarcasm is missed. lol

Assassin's Creeds history is sorta funny, it started out as a 360 exclusive, then became announced as a PS3 exclusive, then finally it was announced as multiplatform, from what I've gathered, there are no discernable differences between the PS3 and 360 version, although on some screens it has looked to me as though the 360 has a bit crisper/less blurry textures(Which wouldn't be all that surprising considering the game has been developed from the getgo for the 360, and PS3 development started afterwards), I guess in the end it depends on which controller you prefer.

I myself am getting the 360 version.

Well i heard they were having problems with the 360 cd's, in that they simply couldnt hold the 10g or so required for the game so they had to shrink it down to 8 or something. Numbers are probably wrong but you get the idea. PS3 had more than enough space though.

Its always been a 360 exclusive i think, even if theyve shown all the E3 videos with the PS3 version *cough*

For the wait for the PC version, they better add in some shit.

Me getting 360 version.
[Yay new elite 360!!]

It was Patrice Desilets, Ubisoft Creative Director, she said the following.

"Right now we have a big challenge on the 360 to make it fit on a DVD, to put five languages, to put all the data on eight gigs,"

"How we handle memory is really different between the two machines and we're struggling right now on the PS3,"

So basically, the 360 has the issue of them having to fit five languages onto a DVD, and the PS3 they've had memory issues with, them having had memory issues might to some extent explain why in screenshots of the PS3 and 360 version, the PS3 has had slightly more blurry textures.

To the above spoiler:

The first 1/2 hour of Assassin's Creed is now on YouTube! Search and you will find. Spoilers aplenty! (It also explains the HUD in the "tutorial".)

You seem to be forgetting this is Ubisoft, i personally have yet to come across a game by them that was flawed in some way.

I agree 10/10 and 100s seem too ambitious for a new game, but its not like its a whole new genre of game. Its Splinter Cell meets the open spaces and freedom of GTA meets the acrobatics of Prince of Persia. Since Splinter Cell and Prince of Persia are both awesome series and always do extremely well for themselves (and more importantly were designed and created by the same Ubisoft team behind Assassin's Creed), we can naturally assume that AC will do just as well, if not better, than Ubisoft's previously similar games.

All the reviews are above 90%. This game is therefore BOUND to be an instant classic and genre defining game. I mean its not like we're seeing 1 review with 100% and the rest with 50 are we???

I'm sick of these 10s, i mean you can see they have cons in that review, how the hell it scored 10/10?

Anyway i think ill get the game today (a store here is selling the game :D)
