Assassin's Creed Review?

I can't wait for Splinter Cell Conviction for the 360, apparently it makes use of hte same engine as Assassin's Creed, atleast the crowd-engine, afterall, it's being developed by the same guys(to some extent, the guys who made AC was a 'merge' of the PoP and Splinter Cell teams iirc).

Same here, only I'll be getting it on PC. I absolutely love the concept of hiding in plain sight and using whatever you have available instead of merely being given gear. Hopefully it'll be a refreshing experience.

Lets hope the PC version of Conviction isn't as god-awful as the PC version of Double Agent was, even with all the latest patches it still suffers from a shitload of bugs that weren't in the 360 version.

I'm sick of these 10s, i mean you can see they have cons in that review, how the hell it scored 10/10?
completely agree. Usually not very helpful, just for hype.

Yes indeed. That has been a really good-looking title since it was announced. Very excited to see that engine put to use in a modern setting. I just hope it is as free and open as AC appears to be....

I just hope it's true what the devs(Ubisoft have stated), they've said that the game is split up into 15 '1-hour' episodes, which would make the game 15-hours long. BTW, talking about Splinter Cell CONVICTION in this statement, to avoid confusion.:p

w00t almost 4 hours till release!!! (EST)

Im picking it up as soon as I can tomorrow. Gamesradar claimed it to have 40 hours of gameplay, which I dearly hope is true. Also, something that wouldnt be picked up in the gameplay vids is the apparently dark violence that goes on. I heard some poor sap gets both his legs smashed as torture or something...

This is the kind of game that seriously needs a good map editor.

I mean, one with an easy way to not only build architecture, but define how the player navigates it.

Good review.

I am disappointed that the combat is going to suck so bad, but it's an experience I want to have, this game is one that only comes a couple times in a lifetime it seems...

I've always wanted a game where you can move completely freely through an environment like in this game, trying to envision the idea many years ago in a text game environment.

I only hope in the future maybe they'll find some way to fix the stupid combat AI, even if it isn't for the current release... say a sequel or something.

Well no game is perfect. I mean come on.

Its like nothing made. Crowd is real (leap forward), freerunning is 100% perfect (leap forward), open gameplay like never before (huge leap forward, youre never forced to do x objective once youve completed one or 2 in each city), stunning STUNNING visuals.

Downsides : expected clipping (when was there a game that DIDNT have a problem like this), you say the AI is moronic but if you listen to the AI interviews and such, even in the reviews, theyre waiting for an opening on you. If you slaughter some of them, some will run, others will hang back. But it seems a little slow i will admit, they take too long to throw in an attack when youre surrounded.

Then again, this game isnt about the combat. Im guessing you can complete it without killing anyone other than your targets in the main and side quests. Combos arent about killing people as we've seen, you just knock them down and do the awesome chase scenes.

Games radar's parent company also owns pcgamer and a few console magazines ..their 10/10 score reads like they made a deal with ubisoft for an early review (as earler reported in this thread) ..1up didnt get an early review and scored it 7/10 ...I'm more inclinded to belive 1up's score over Games radar

To be honest, im more inclined to believe IGN and Gamespot's reviews...whenever they finish them. Theyve just done Crysis so im sure AC wont be far behind.

IGN and Gamespot have always been trustworthy ive found, so ill be following their leads.

Either way though, looks like a must-buy?

Okay ill be leaning toward Gamespot a bit more then..*cough*

Hahaha! I am thinking somewhere is between them all will be accurate, so the metareview will do. I imagine it does some things extremely well and other things just ok. Sounds fine to me! I just hope it is as sandboxy as I imagine it to be.

GameTrailers gave Assassin's Creed a 9.1, saying that although the first half of the game is completely sublime, the assassinations get repetitive and once you learn counter-attacks, the combat becomes incredibly easy and by-the-numbers. They also criticised some occasionally moronic AI; in one example the player killed one guard, instantly went into "blend" mode, walked around a corner when another nearby guard came to investigate the death (he was standing right next to the guy), and then killed the second guard in the same manner as the first. There's also some technical issues like occasional clipping in the combat (Altair sometimes will run right through a wall when doing some of the finishing moves) and pop-up while the world streams in. Sounds like a much more realistic review to me than all of these other ones (chances are they didn't play to the end of the game if none of them mentioned pacing problems near the end).

That quite alot of criticisms for a 9.1

This is what i dont get, theyre going 'zomfg the AI is shite when fighting and its not as open as we hoped /whinewhinewhinecrymoar'

Yet they slap it with 9-10 scores...uhhh hang on, therefore its simply an awesome game so stfu?

Then they praise how vast the maps are and how much freedom you have to run around...gah, sod the reviews, im gonna see what its like for myself.

Or maybe im just teething again, i need this game so bad lol

It's actually shaping up to be just how I imagined it would. Not bad by any means, but not as robust as it potentially could have been.

All these reviews are changing it from a "Must buy" to a rental for me.

EDIT: IGN says it's one of the top 5 disappointing games of all time given its potential :(

Yeah, same here. I was all set to go out and buy it this weekend but I think I'll put it on hold for a while. Mass Effect just got snapped back up to priority one. Assassins Creed... maybe after Christmas.

It's a fitting end to a game that starts off brightly, wriggling elusively as you try and grasp what's going on, delighting in the mechanics and beautiful visuals, before sinking into a pattern that, while fairly gratifying, never evolves and ultimately becomes a bit boring, and quite amazingly repetitive. After each briefing, you travel the same route to the Masyaf border with no way to skip the journey, and it takes five minutes. You will play to the end anyway, I imagine, because it's not very frustrating, it looks nice and the low-level mechanics are engagingly fluid and spectacular to watch. And you certainly want to know what's going on. Or will do, until it stops dazzling to deceive and goes a bit Dan Brown. But while there's no end of potential to the foundations Ubisoft Montreal has set, the game built upon them is ultimately disappointing, and leaves you unfulfilled.

7/10

hmm not quite as hyped anymore. It sounds like the game gets repetitive fast and is almost boring.

Same after seeing the video reviews Im moving see to my rental list. O well on the positive note there is no shortage of quality games that have or are coming out in the next couple weeks.

God damnit. I'll still enjoy the game immensely, I'm sure.

*checks* oh they have their review up aswell now.

*goes to watch*

Pfft, it'll still be enjoyable. This game is a great milestone in free roaming games. I mean, no other game I know of has it so you can move so freely about the environment. I only hope this aspect is mirrored in future games and done as well as it is here.

I knew the combat wasn't going to be very good from what I've seen in past videos, but I'm not going to let that ruin it for me. I'm still going to enjoy the hell out of it.

Be careful of the ign video review there are major spoilers in it. Yes new ones.

Gaah, gamespy gave it a 3.5/5... What a huge dissapointment. Ah well, less cash spending for me
