Bad Company 2 Multiplayer Beta

I wanted to play Battlfield 2 so I could get some practice in before I jumped at this.. but then it didn't work because of some Punkbuster error thing. I assume it's something to do with Windows 7 since it wasn't happening before I had it. Now I guess I'll have to get this just to fill that void of destructive desires in my life.
 
You don't need BF2 to get used to this game at all...
 
.... but if you do, just download the manual updater for PB. You can get that here.
 
I have always been annoyed how PB worked with BF2 *and a lot of other games*.

It fails way too often.

The automatic update is useless. I always have to manually update the damn thing.

I dont' think I notice any significant FPS change when I set DxVersion to 9 on Vista. I wonder what DirectX I was playing with, when I set DxVersion to "lololol".
 
The tip about setting your AF to 8x actually does improve your fps. It bumped mine up about 8-10 fps.
 
I concur. Before the tweak I couldnt run smoothly on high settings, but now it is actually playable.

If that's the case, I did that and noticed nothing. Even set bloom to false. Darned lying settings!
 
Also, just as an FYI, I've been doing some playing and the bf2 forums helped confirm this. Play the game at your native *max?* resolution. You will get better performance than if you use a lower res.
 
Just put anti aliasing on x4? Thats pretty high and probly wont see a hella lot of difference between 4 and 8.

Can only get it to x2 on xbox :eek:

I don't know, as I'm not sure how to change it/what to change. I changed what I thought was right but nothing changed.

Its easier to do it ingame. Just go into your settings and set AF to 8x.

My native res is 1920x1080. Playing at that will give better performance than at 1024x768?
 
I have a question. Is my computer good enough to run this acceptably?

Athlon64 dualcore 2.4GHz
2GB RAM
ATI Radeon X1900XT 512MB

I can't. The "Advanced" button doesn't exist above the brightness slider. I thought it was my 8800GT.

Yes. From reading, and I am no pro at this stuff, if you go away from your native, the video card has to use more resources to scale the res or something. Some say it's the video card that gets taxed, others says its the CPU. In the end, it was pretty conclusive that they all agreed it was a performance hit in the end.

If you can, you will barely be able to. My roomie has an 1800XT and that's even still way too low.

I don't have DX10, silly :p Where did you find that chart?
 
I googled for "Bad company 2 benchmark"

But still, the point is even a card that is more powerful than yours that can run dx10 is having such low FPS, I'd imagine you can't be THAT much better off with DX9. Unfortunately, We won't know unless you get a beta key and just try it out.

I'd say start looking around for a key. If I find one, I'll let you know.
 
Sadly, raising the resolution didn't do anything. :(
 
Steam overlay now works with this and so does x-fire. Anybody up for a game?

Yeah I'm not really sure I am as interested as I first was about BC2. If the pubs I play in are any indication of the full release, everyone will play sniper or camp UAV/choppers and no one will be interested in actual objectives.

Don't play on pubs alone. Get in a group with HL2.netters.
 
I play on the 360 and not a lot of people on hl2net do :(

This is one game mode though and just 1 map. There is squad rush, hardcore mode, and the conquest mode.

I absolutely LOVE IT when the buildings collapse
for the first time yesterday I was caught in one that was coming down and my squad mate contextually yelled "we gotta get the **** out it's comin down on top of us!!"
I was in the middle of a firefight but once I had dealt with my enemy, I sprinted for the open door only to be crushed as I reached it
definitely one of my fav "moments" so far :thumbs:
 
Atm I'm not really enjoying the demo that much. Prolly coz I'm playing with randomers and no-one gives a shit about helping each other. Playing the console versions so the the player count is only 24 which doesnt help in giving a big scale of things like bf2 f.e.

Even if you do get into a squad of 4 who all help each other you are almost guaranteed you are the only squad doing this among both sides, making capping the points feel unfulfilling. The amount of times I see teammates not even attempt to diffuse the bomb and just sit camping. Snipers are the worst. They seem to forget that defending the crates is the objective.

The PS3 beta was way more fun than this tbh. Maybe it's the map. Arica Harbour is superior to Port Valdez.
 
I agree that Arica Harbour is much better.

As for the teammates being retarded, it's so true. That's the reason I want to get a big game of hl2.netters in, cause we know they aren't the same retards as usual.
