The character, who appears in the Captain America comic book, was created in 1941 to build up patriotic feeling during World War II.

Co-creator Joe Simon told the New York Daily News: "It's a hell of a time for him to go, We really need him now."
The latest edition will show the superhero dying on the steps of a courthouse in New York, after he was shot by a sniper.
Captain America first appeared nine months before the Pearl Harbor bombings, punching Hitler on the cover of the comic's first issue.

I never found this action hero particularly interesting. He was, if I'm not mistaken, born of the war propaganda of the 1940s.

Captain America will return. Steve Rogers will not. New Cap's probably going to be Frank Castle...aka The Punisher.

I heard the news about Cap this morning and it crushed me. I had everyone around me take a moment of silence. Rogers got the crap end of the stick at the end of Civil War, then he gets assassinated. Cap was one of, if perhaps not THE BEST Marvel hero. Not the strongest, not the most powerful, but the best. He was the embodiment of a hero more than any other character I can think of.

I'm gonna miss Captain America. I think I might take the figure I have of him and make a memorial pose for him. Right now he's fighting my Red Skull figure, though, which is still pretty fitting.
 
Great, the Punisher is gonna be the new Captain America? Blah.

At the climax of a battle between Registration and resistence proponants, realizing that his fight against the Registration Act is endangering civilians, he removes and drops his mask to surrender as Steve Rogers. He gives the anti-Registration side the order to stand down. As Captain America is led away, the Punisher picks up the discarded mask.

While entering a Federal Courthouse, Steve Rogers is shot in the shoulder by a sniper. In the ensuing crowd chaos, he is shot three times in the stomach and chest with a handgun, and later dies of his injuries in an ambulance.[39] It is discovered that the assassination was orchestrated by the Red Skull; Crossbones was the sniper and Dr. Faustus had hypnotized Sharon Carter into shooting Rogers in the stomach.

In Civil War: The Initiative, Ms. Marvel claims that Captain America is not dead but "...tucked away safe on the Raft... They're trying to save his life even as we speak."

either make him a nazi spyhunter or a tool of american foreign policy straddling the moral fine line between good and evil ...none of this tired phoney mirroring of reality like the "superhero registration nonsense ..it was done 30 years ago on the x-men far more successfully I might add

Marvel either become contemporary or fall back on that pulp qulity of comics that made them great in the 50's/early 60's ...as it is now you just seem like waterdowned pin up art with no real substance ..comics only have themselves to blame for becoming irrelevant

He was a good guy with no other ulterior motive than to be a good guy. He was a hero because he wanted to be, not because he had some cause to promote, or a vendetta, or just because he had super powers.
 
Batman seriously is the best super hero, simple because he wasn't even a super hero, really.

Also, Spider-Man idolizes Batman. On more than a few occassions Spider-Man's made references to Batman, even at one point when he saved a stunned citizen, who stuttered, "You're...you're..." Spidey replied,

"Yes. I'm Batman."

Spider-Man loves Bats. Plus no one can beat Batman. If you have any weakness, even the smallest one, Batman will find it and destroy you. Even if you DON'T have a weakness, Batman will make one and destroy you. Batman has Plot Armor +20. He cannot lose.

The concept of Batman is so retarded. I can just imagine him trying to fit it at a a superhero conference of some sort.

Yeah, if you were looking just at physical powers.

He's a ****ing genius + peak physical performance + Scare factor. There's a reason he's one of the founding dudes of the Justice League. Not to mention he's at the helm of Wayne Enterprises... 1337 Skillz + monies = gold and win.
 
Batman wins because he doesn't need super-powers, he just owns. Though I do find the way he collects children into his group a little disturbing.
