Company of Heroes = the best game ever?

That sounds good, aslong as there is Skirmish where it's fighting continously and building more units (no fixed amount) then that's all I need. :D What are resources?

I played the demo for a few hours, great tutorials although I find Skirmish hard. It's difficult to manage so many fronts and the enemy artillery destroying your defences at such a range makes it tricky as well.

It's a pretty mediocre game after you play it for a few weeks

Lol, I kept thinking I was playing an FPS on the first mission and I just went running into Germans without thinking at all :p

Grrr, I just can't takle tanks, they can get anywhere, I always build infantry but never have enough resources for tanks.

I CONCUR.

Get in RO.

I'm on.

type /addfriend EnnuiDeckard if you want to play with me.

ahh repiV good game, i'll be back in ASAP, COH crashed :D

Interesting. So did mine...

Good game indeed. :)

Can someone give me tips? I'm still playing the demo, I really like the game but I always lose or struggle to push forwards. I would buy the game but want to beat the demo Normal CPU first. It's good to see a challenging strategy game though that you need to learn/practice.

I'll have to check it out, RTS isn't really my thing, apart from Homeworld and AoE, but I do love ww2-games of all kinds.

I may end up getting this game after my film is done. But first i gotta buy an Xbox 360.

well, relic entertainment made homeworld and they're the developers of COH :D

The artillery strike is slightly useless, as by the time the rounds hit, the enemy has moved out of the srike zone as the AI recognises the smoke and basically gets the **** out of there.

The vehicles are a bit retarded too, especially in groups of 4+. You cant really make a convoy as they get stuck on each other. But meh.

Online is a shambles at the moment. Can never connect.

Playing LAN with a mate from halls living next door is a great time though.

Easily one of THE best RTS games of all time.
Agreed on all points. Although that's kind of the point of artillery, unless you're hitting a fixed position. You do it so they'll get the **** out and you can get the **** in :D Airborne bombing runs are what you want for fast, hard-hitting artillery (although not quite as powerful I don't think). Also, the vehicle pathfinding is shit, but I rarely have more than 2 vehicles hitting a single spot at once. Otherwise they become hard to manage and are more prone to getting themselves killed...

Just absolutely dominated some poor soul in 1v1. I was allies on Angoville.
Wouldn't be too proud there... I've found allies have a bit of an advantage on that map. As long as you hold the west victory point and the one closer to your base, even if he has the last one you can quite easily maintain control of both high fuel points, denying him the resources he needs for heavy armor (unless it's tigers later on, but being a low resorce map that takes a while). Also, this map is a Calliope's playground, seriously. Pretty much everything is always in range of their rockets, they can cross the map in seconds to be anywhere they're needed, and it's wide open so they'll always have an easy time of flanking axis armor.

Exactly what I thought after playing the demo, but play it some more and give yourself a chance to get used to everything (also, leave the CPU on easy :D). The difficulty of managing several fronts and keeping your defenses intact is a constant problem, and the game is always keeping you on your toes, but this is the beauty of it. You can't just shove as many units as you like onto a certain point and be confident that anything that comes within range is gonna get blasted, you have to distribute and place them smartly and be ready to change at a moment's notice if the enemy finds a weakness in your defense. Similarly, finding chinks in your opponents armor and exploiting them with the right units and tactics can be key to pushing them back and achieving victory. It's an incredibly fluid system and it demands that you're always active, always thinking.

Also, expect to be yelling "NERF ****ING AXIS ARMOR!!!!!!11" at your computer screen alot while you're still getting used to it. Yes, it is overpowered, but no it's not invincible. Allies have ways to counter them, you just have to know how to use em. Keep playing and they'll become more apparent. Till then, don't let it get you too down :p

Anyway, adding more friends, and I'll be getting on RO more hoping to catch some of ya for a match ^^

Oh yeah... but I can't play Axis :x

ArrrRRRrRRGH NEED MONEY FOR GAMES.

Damnit, it sounds so good! Installing demo after SC and HSC. ><

oh, it is, it is.

/me loads up relic online

Schweet.
By the way, we are really ruining this thread...

its not a problem, the thread's doing fine, and it's perfectly relevant :)

Damn, that was one hell of a game. Ennui has the replay. :D

I spent 2 hours fighting the Normal CPU in the demo. I gave up, I was slowly losing territorys. It's a very hard game, I can see alot of gameplay with it.

I'm not buying the game until I beat this damn Skirmish on the demo, theres just so much to play with on just one map.

I rushed to get points and defended some rather well but they got behind me and cocked me up a good few times, I like to use infantry although those Quad 50s are pretty awesome to. It's amazing how sandbags and tank blockades turn the game. I never see the CPU build them though(?).

There's a really easy way to win on Semois, and that's to rush your first two engineer squads to the opponent's bridges and barbed wire them. This is assuming you're playing Victory Point mode.

repiV and I just completely steamrolled a couple of Axis players on Pointe du Hoc. We had a lot of tanks, somewhere around 15 shermans total, plus a couple others. It's a pretty fun match to watch, the replay's here:

clicky

Awesome, the replay!

The game was extremely even for a long time though and we could easily have lost. So that's what makes it such a great match. :)

yeah it was pretty touch and go for the first 45 minutes or so. we eventually managed to take most of the fuel and victory points though, so we could mass our shermans.

750kb replay file?

I'm playing the demo on conquest, what's the objective of the other mode? What's online play like?

Conquest?
There's annihilation and victory point. In VP mode there are a number of locations around the map, and you start with 250, 500 or 1000 points. When the enemy controls a majority of the locations, your points count down. The greater the majority, the faster they count down. When you reach zero points, you lose.
Much more interesting than annihilation I think.
Online play can be a bit tempremental but generally works fine. I've never played a skirmish game because playing against the AI doesn't interest me remotely.

online play is leaps and bounds more entertaining than playing against the AI. the AI is mostly more annoying than fun, their playstyle is a pain in the ass to counter.

What's online play like?

Awesome. I just had a great game on Lorraine. I played with my usual teammate against another guy we knew and a buddy of his. Very fierce game. At times it looked very grim and at one point I even thought we would lose. But after killing a couple of Tigers our opponents lost the will to fight and we slowly but surely advanced on their base. They were out of resources, out of armor and looking at a big mass of Shermans, Calliopes and Pershings. After a couple of Calliope salvos that finished of their last Ace Tiger they gave up. One of my most hotly contested wins ever.

I just played a ranked match on semois (though... my stats arent really working :( ) and had the most amazing comeback i've ever seen.

I did bad early in the game (I was allies, and if you do bad at first that's usually a sign you're going to lose) and was pushed back to my side. The Axis player had all 3 VPs. I amassed five riflemen squads with full upgrades and a decent amount of Supply so I could use them and then charged the bottom VP, taking it, and neutralizing the middle VP (effectively stopping my tickets from falling anymore) when I had only 4 tickets left. FOUR. I then went on to win the game, by fighting VERY VERY hard to hold the points.

I did it! I won the demos normal Skirmish! :D Man this game is AWESOME, I just love how a lovely little village turns into a blown up pile of rubble and barbed wire mess. All the debry and mortor holes stay, no "dissapearing" crap on nearly every other game, it stays how you blew it up, it's cool how your tanks push the rubble out the way to. :D Creates a realistic atmosphere.

It's an amazing game, I'll buy it and play with you guys. I only really use soldiers, never have the resources to get tanks, is this a bad style of playing?

Tip for Allied: ****ing rush.

If you don't, you lose. Srsly.

Are Germans advantaged then? They seem to have very strong tanks but I can tackle everything else fairly easily.

I don't use tanks at all.

germans are generally VERY good in later game
