Company of Heroes = the best game ever?

Rangers and Squad sticky bombs do the trick. Take them down quick, if you use cover effectively, it's not hard. If I get a Squad in front of the tank and throw sticky bombs at it, I send some Rangers around the back and you get critical hits. :)

interesting might have to try that

The German tanks are abit crappy against infantry becasue they have no MGs without upgrades. Although the Panzers take a while to take down.

rifle squads with sticky bombs and salvaged panzerfausts ftwww

Yeah, but it takes awhile to take down axis armor with JUST infantry... I usually have atleast one tank around to flank/distract/whatever aswell. Oh, and don't forget your ATs.

true.

also, getting your rifleman squads fully upgraded with sticky bombs, grenades, and etc tends to take about as long as it does to roll out a sherman, so it's not necessarily the best plan

I just watched the replay from our game. Damn, the CoH replay system is really, really shit. It desperately needs an overhaul.

With regards to tanks, always remember that the best principle is to make your enemy adapt to your tactics and not the other way around. By bringing tanks onto the field first, you force them into a reactive stance. Whereas if all you are doing is countering their attacks, YOU are the one being reactive and therefore in a position of weakness.

yeah, it's very basic. it needs timeline manipulation (like pause and rewind and stuff) at least.

repiV, up for a quick game? I've got some stuff I have to do soon, but I have time for a 2v2.

Yeah, same here. I've got about half an hour. Then I'm busy all night. :)
I'll be in the lobby.

Yes, but it's so much easier just to build tanks and infantry.

I'm getting better now with the demo still, going to order it next week because I know I have nothing to do then. Qonfused - yeh, something I've got alot better at, able to combine both, rather than just one.

This is why I LOVE the game though:

:D

It's so fun just forming your own battlefield, the gameplay changes everytime because of it. :D

In Multiplayer, if it's 2v2, do both of you get the resources from the flag points, or do you get what you take yourself?

The gameplay is just amazing, control points is a good idea.

In teamgames you get a share of all the resources the whole team takes. So don't be working on your own during a teamgame, work together.

You share points, but not actual resources. So you'll be making the same per minute, but you won't have to actually worry about what either of you are spending.

Not actually sure how OPs count towards that, like if you only see returns for your own that you've built or if they all benefit the whole team...

Edit - Oh, and about watching replays - http://www.gamereplays.org/community/index.php?showtopic=138168

Scroll down to point 3 (4 is handy aswell).

Goddamnit, I keep getting owned lately... I'm losing faith in allies again :(

I seem to make alot of headway in the early game, but as soon as they start rolling out tanks I just fall apart. The only real counter is AT guns, but on many maps they're so bloody hard to position, and they die so very easily...

Also, it's becoming more and more apparent that the company you chose can mean victory or defeat in 1v1. Just now I played Semois and picked armor company, whereas he chose defensive doctrine. Since I wasn't rolling out tanks until I got Calliopes he had Stugs storming my points early on, then by the time I had Calliopes he had Panzers, and by the time it looked like I could start pushing back he'd started building 88s to guard his victory points, and there was no real way of taking them out. My calliope barrages had to be done from afar so I wasn't taking fire and they kept missing... and since he had most of the points at this stage I was soon out of munitions... :(

Bah, losing isn't always fun in this game :p

Edit - Oh yeah, new avatar/sig kind of pertains to that game a little... he got a lucky goliath off early on which took out an entire rifleman AND engineer squad which were guarding a VP.

Ouch.

i've been doing decent lately, allies take so much micro though

Allies are definitely the stronger of the two sides, so I wouldn't lose faith in them too quickly.
There are plenty of other counters to tanks. Sticky bombs (if you're massing riflemen), AP rounds on HW teams, recoilless rifles and satchel charges on airborne squads, other tanks...
Your priority as allies should be to deny the enemy fuel points. 50% of them isn't enough, you need to hold the majority. Constantly make hit and run attacks on his fuel. It's vital.

Ennui, I see you there. I'm going to play CoH with a friend in a minute. If you wanna play a 3v3, speak up!

I've only just started playing this on online, and whenever I play allies I get my ass handed to me (i get spammed by zillions of Ostwinds before ive set up my AT defences). I can do OK as axis though.

I may just be a bit shit at this game...

It takes practice. :)

But the most important tip I can give you right now when you're playing as Allies is control the fuel. As much of it as you possibly can. And the fuel you can't control, make hit and run attacks on. Decap it when you can.
You have to slow their teching. No fuel, no tanks.

Just played the greatest game as allies against a friend (he plays axis and he's a BASTARD with tanks). He's been trying out a strategy lately where he builds the absolute minimal of infantry and just saves until he can start rolling out masses of armor. So I just went totally on the offensive the whole time, kept him busy defending his own points so he barely had time to try and cap mine, pushed right back into his territory, even managed to cut off like 3 of his sectors by grabbing a strat point once :)

Then he rolls out a couple panzers and an ostwind pretty much all one after the other... but with the help of my ATs, airborne w/ recoilless and an early M10, I BARELY managed to hold them off and kept all of my points :D

Fun fun fuuuuuuuun when you manage to pull this stuff off.

I tried ye' old wait until I have enough resources but it just doesn't work like that. :(

Nope. My friend knows that now too :)

Gotta strike a balance early game. Once you already have "enough" of everything on the battlefield and you're bringing in some serious resources, you can start spamming away at whatever you want most.

Thanks for the tip! I just tried it out, and I still lost, but it was a pretty close run thing.

Hmm...it doesn't look like they've really done much to rectify the balance issues that are frequently raised. Particularly the ones that make Allies the stronger side.

Oh repiV, could you add me. I am either Shakermaker or GiulioCesare.

i think that's a great patch, very excited about the mod tools + movie maker
