Dead Space is looking well....pretty damn sweet

I said the exact same damn thing at first. Takes getting used to, it works pretty damn well.

i just went and got the tram car repaired and the camera is still driving me nuts. I mean I walked up to a doorway and took five steps back and my entire screen was still a damn door. I'm sorry, but if I'm 5 feet back from my room's door I can see a ton more than just my door.

But I think a huge part of my problem is the mouse delay, I mean I can finish making a 90* turn with my mouse, before the game even starts to rotate the character. I guess I'm just stupid but if every other shooter on the market can manage some single digit millisecond response times...I think this one should be able to also.

edit: "The controls are 2nd to the worst controls we've seen ever since Path of Neo came to the PC platforms. "

...awesome...

That's the way I felt about the movement at first. Found it kind of sluggish and muddy for a while, really disorienting.

have you turned of v-sync, that kind of un****ed the game a bit for me.

wow. I thought I turned vsync off but I guess I didn't do something right because it was on, yea...that fixed a LOT of the mouse lag...let's start the game and see how much better it is now.

This.

It gives MAJOR performance boost and theres no quality loss unless you have super microscopic eyes able to catch frame tearing.

Agreed with all of that. The controls, i think I'll eventually get used to them, but the camera is another story. I have no idea how I'll be able to play in that zero g environment...

The controls on the x-box can be sluggish but not always , they are when shooting but thats about it.

Dead Space is GOTY hands down.

story wise I haven't played anything as good since DX1

****ing awesome last few moments in the game.

I'm at, what I presume to be, the final regen-necromorph battle as it's in a typical big open room, except I got my ass handed to me by those stupid little baby mother****ers and some other jeb-ends. I only attempted the room once and for the most part I was running around looking for ammo, but is there something I need to do in this room? Bare in mind I've been playing this with alot of friends so I haven't been *totally* paying much attention to the whole Mercer thing, which is a shame.

I'm going to take a wild stab in the dark, though - have I got to do something maybe involving using that chemical vial/sample I got from his office? Let it into the air or something? Honestly, I can't remember.

You need to take it to where the Leviathan is. It's a poison.

I'm finding the pulse rifle to be a heap of shit right now, but I've only done like one upgrade to it.

I dunno , i think its pretty usefull if you need to cut several limbs off from a distance fairly fast. In my opinion it does a better job than the line gun.

Anyone try this on the PS3 yet?
That's what I played it on.
Flamethrower? More like lamethrower.
Seriously. What a piece of shit. When you hear "flamethrower" in a game, your head is filled with images of all-destroying immolation. When you couple "flamethrower" with "aliens," and "zombies," you should be making the :awesome: face every time you use it.

THIS flamethrower is the greatest piece of shit ever. WHY does it take up so much ammo and yet give you absolutely NO benefit whatsoever? Oh look, I just set those necromorphs on fire and they're SLIGHTLY PERTURBED. Piece of crap. I kept saying, "I oughtta sell this thing" right up until the end boss. Only when I found out the flames couldn't even REACH the end boss did I junk it. Why did I keep it for so long? Why did I insist on using it? Why were several full canisters of flame fuel clogging my inventory?

At least setting those little head...tentacle...facehugger-y things on fire and watching them run around was entertaining.

I disagree , the ripper was easier to use , more efficient , was twenty three point five times more fun and only used one blade of ammo while the lamethrower used nearly a whole can of fuel to do the same job.

The flamethrower is pretty weak at the start, but I found out that it becomes handy after you upgrade the hell out of it. It does damage alright, but its problem is the time it needs to do it.

For example, I had situation where I was ambushed by what seemed like the global undead reunion of '08, and I slightly panicked, spraying everything with fire while running like hell. After being sure nothing had chased me, I returned to find almost everything dead. The upgraded thrower set the necroes on fire, but it took time to dish out all its damage, which isn't the best thing if you're surrounded.

The ammo consumption is borderline ridiculous, though. A good tactic to spare ammo is to hold back the enemy with little 'puffs' of fire (they stagger back a bit with every shot), reigniting them constantly and letting them burn themselves to death.

Although it's way easier just to unleash a couple of Cutter shots and be done with it, but where's the fun in that? Unless you're in a vacuum... Damn realism.

Something odd i noticed about the guy banging his head on the wall in chapter 2 , his entrails are hanging out of him even while hes alive.

How so? I didnt think the necros work like that because according to logs and the animated comic (and witnessing the infectors first hand) they require dead cells to function. Unless you just mean the model ;).

I'm now on chapter 8 and it's still good but two things are bothering me:

1) handy man syndrome. I hate when games degenerate into always going to fix things that break but dead space is full of it that it gets quite irritating.

2) Maybe I suck but I always find myself low on health or ammo especially after a big encounter but other people I've seen on forums have no problems.

Hello, McFly, think!

You're an engineer. What do engineers do?

2) Maybe I suck but I always find myself low on health or ammo especially after a big encounter but other people I've seen on forums have no problems.

That's a normal state of affairs. It's a survival horror.

Also, is it me, or is Dead Space simply not scary? Creepy, sure, scary? Sorry, SS2 did that better.

Still a GotY in the Horror category for me.

Make sure you always have at least 2 large health packs , 3 medium and 3-5 small and the rest of you inventory full of ammo , i wouldnt worry too much about stasis packs if i were you but air may be a problem in some situations. I managed to do ok with just that but then again im only on chapter 5 so im not sure about how it goes after that.

And i agree with grizzly , its not very scary (i admit it has made me jump once or twice when i was low on health and got ambushed). Very eerie though with all the ambient sounds like scratching in the vents / cielings and distand roars. Especially the very random womans screem going down the cargo elevator thingie.

I agree slightly about the scares in the fact that I haven't jumped out of my seat as much as I thought I might. There were scenes in Bioshock where I actually did think ''there is mo way I am going down that corridor'' whereas in this I'v plouged on regardless. I have jumped, but for the most part it's simply when I haven't paid attention to anything behind me and something has suddenly appeared unconventionally.

The worst thing that's got me so far is when I found a necro on the floor, I shot at it to make sure it was dead and it didn't get up, even after I dismembered it. I went into my inventory screen and I was chatting away to a mate whilst sorting out what was important and what I could drop and I could hear this squelching wet sound but I presumed it was just the background audio noises that go with the atmosphere, then out of ****ing nowhere the necro attacks me from behind. That ****er was DEAD and I had made sure of it, but nooo...

Did anyone come across the crying woman in the medical bay whilst on the run from the regen, when heading towards Mercers office? Weird stuff. She just stands watching an empty bed, swaying and crying. When the atmosphere is vented she isn't there anymore, which makes sense, but still

Actually i do remember one bit that scared me for a second.
it was when you see the guy get shot by the baby necro after i walked into the room i couldnt find it i turned round and theres a f**king baby on my face! Good thing Issac had his stomping boots on or i would have been done for.

I think thats the only time my heart has raced in this game so far.

**** I want to tear your eyes out for that spoiler.

PEOPLE. FFS. Mark what chapter you're referring to.

I hated that I couldn't talk to that woman.

I disagree , the ripper was easier to use , more efficient , was twenty three point five times more fun and only used one blade of ammo while the lamethrower used nearly a whole can of fuel to do the same job.
I didn't say that the flamethrower was actually good at anything, man. Don't accuse me of such slanderous things. I just said that it was fun watching the little buggers run around on fire.

All I used throughout the game was the plasma cutter, ripper, and flamethrower.

TBH I never even bought the other guns, save for energy cannon at the end.

Darkside brings up a good point though , wtf are those things? I mean they arent necro'd humans , i doubt they are rats or something are they just an extension of all the goo crap everywhere or what? I find them mysterious... Kinda turns me on...

No the little white things that jump on you and suck your health. The ones you sometimes find in the green boxes.

Just random parasites? Or have i got the concept of necros slightly wrong and those are infact the things that infect corpses?

Ah so they do a similar job to the infectors then. Well at any rate they are annoying as stepping in dog crap.
