for the short time i'v been here i havn't seen anything out of hand at all, things seem good.

I see that Sulk is Super Mod now, so I guess that slot is filled?
I've been a supermod for ages, ye numpty

The thread title annoyed me so much I changed it. Now that's moderation.

super serial response once I've read the thread properly. Here we touch on sinkoman's point: some of us have other things we need to do before wading through nine pages!

def not Stig

he seems fair to me.

Why do we talk of mods at this committee? Long have the members of Halflife2.net kept the trolls and spammers at bay. By our posts and nonparticipation in such threads are these forums kept safe!

The Lounge has no mods.

The Lounge needs no mods.

What?! It is not only the lounge that is neededing of authority!

What about the thread blatantly started by a pirate searching for HL2 patches, that I might add is still open!

Or what about that "Gordon Theme Song" thread the halfling created in the lounge section that lasted nearly 3 days!

Or the countless repetition of Movie threads that have already been posted in the films section?!

Do these unjustices go unnoticed by authority, do they?!?

I say, we need another moderator for the actual Valve related areas of the site, and the films section!

If you see such things you might want to try reporting them. Most of us genuinely don't have the time to proactively scour the forums for misdeed. The thread you say is 'still open', for example - when I am writing this post between translating lines of Old English poetry, commentary on which is due at 5pm today, am I really going to go off looking for that thread if you don't give me the link?

Reporting things gives the moderator a red flag, shows him where to go, and at the very least ensures that the case will be examined. I'm surprised we still have to tell people that reporting = smart.

I know sulk, I just wanted to sound over the top angry/serious.... Jus tease.
Your post reminds me of something along the lines of, "Ask not what HL2.net can do for you, ask what you can do for HL2.net" :p

but anyways back to, Injustice! We need not a Moderator, HL2.net needs a messiah!

I do try to emulate my favourite political figures.

The rules of which I speak are not a set of laws - they are a set of challenges. They sum up not what we intend to do to the membership, but what we ask of them.

Next up: hetairiagate!

jus know that we still love you, Babydodds.

Hetairia..... I would have never known of that place, were it not for a friend that I sit next to in class. So surprising who is secretly a member could be right next to you!

There was nothing in your post that requires moderator attention.

A thread on piracy? Don't answer, let it die. Eventually the software buccaneer will give up and go away to some other, seedier port where he might acquire help and information.

The Gordon Theme Song thread...well, ZT, you were the first person who posted in that thread and you raised no alarm. It only continues to exist for three days because people are posting in it, regardless of what section its in.

The repetition of movie threads...yeah, those're stupid, I don't know why we have forum regulars putting movie threads in the Lounge. They should know better. However, it's not a big issue.

We need no watchful eyes or forum government. No messiahs or mods...only members.

What are you paid for then?!

Members have time to do these things. I'm here all the time even when I'm not at home. I'm even here during this weird period I like to call "The Lull," which is around 2:15 PST where NOBODY POSTS. No posts on any board whatsoever. I've been meaning to make a thread about that; it's really creepy.

I hope your friend has you under surveillance like we ordered him.

EDIT: Well, surprising as it may be, I don't want to, nor can I afford to, spend all day on forums. D:
But then that's what the report system is for, so that diligent members can raise the flag and, when a moderator finally comes online, he can be through all the pending reports like BAM BAM BAM BAM with only a thought's pause for moral considerations/bribery.

EDIT2: You seem to locate The Lull at around 6am GMT. So everyone from the UK east into Russia will be either asleep, or at their daytime occupation.

You'd think somebody'd be awake though. I don't think it's so simple as "sleep" or "work." I ascribe to more sinister theories.

...

er, I mean

:borg: All hail mods! All hail mods! All hail mods!

You know what, i was losing hope. So I left for like, two days, came back, and lol'd at the recent awesome threads (Jokes thread, et al.)

Hl2.net is like a dude on a large scale. Sometimes it feels bored, so the members within are bored. Other times it is aroused, and that is when shit gets interesting.

I think halflife2.net is a pretty cool dude. eh gets aroused and doesnt afraid of anything?

I have to agree with Numbers ...ironfist is fist fulls of the gay

HL2.net is a neural network and we are the neurons of this glorious whole!

Also, Iron Fist? When was that not gay?

Leave Iron Fist alone, his costume was designed in the '70s.

He did change it recently; it's now a green body suit, no flared collar or exposed torso. It is decidedly less gay. Still got the stupid mask, though.

I hope your friend has you under surveillance like we ordered him.
Marty has been reporting back regularly, indeed! Intelligence is a fundamental part of the system ;)

And lets not derail this thread with random and apparantly 'gay' pictures, that wouldn't be good.

Derail a thread that serves absolutely no purpose but as a soapbox where people complain about how HL2.net is somehow in the gutter and other people refute them? Well we certainly wouldn't want to get off track as this thread clearly holds the fate of humanity in its pages!

And it wasn't random. Pi said he wielded the iron fist. I called him a liar; the current wielder of the Iron Fist is Daniel Rand. I am still, technically, on topic.

Don't make me call out Iron Fist on you too Glenn. I wouldn't want to have to do that. His fists are registered as lethal weapons.

Here's an opinion.

The coolness of hl2.net fluctuates. I've said this before, I think. Sometimes, with the right threads and the right members, this place is amazing, and sometimes, without these things, it's not, and I stop posting for a while.

Sometimes these fluctuations are rapid, sometimes very slow. Chances are, we're at the bottom of a rather long trough in the waveform that is hl2.net's coolness, and Ace has noticed this.

I don't think this site will die, and I don't think that these fluctuations are caused by any one thing (mods, members).

But if you (this is one of those really broad you's, meaning everyone) don't like where this site is, it's up to you to change it or else be the least un-cool you can.

oh marty, that spying son of a bitch, I am so not-shaking his hand or dancing with him in the hallways tommorow!:p

You could try adding voteclose for threads, that if enough people above a certain postcount (like 500 posts to be moderately respected or 5000 to make sure only senior members can do it) report a thread during a certain time limit then the thread gets autoclosed and reported to a mod who can choose to re-open if they so wish.
If everyone knows about this then it'll get rid of a lot of advert threads automatically, giving mods an easier time. Unfortunately I can see how it could be used if enough people organise a board attack a lot of threads that don't deserve to be could be closed. YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE!

But yeah for some of the more senior members it could be a good way of not giving us mod status, but giving us more responsibility as long-standing community members.

Why was Druckles banned? I ask here because I don't want to make a new thread about it.

...Druckles was banned?

...there is going to be rage. Whatever this thread was previously about, forget it, because there's about to be some serious fucking rage here. Checking his recent posts there's nothing that should have merited a ban. It also have better have been an infraction ban. Darkside demands a good god-damn explanation on why someone like Druckles, who I've never seen post anything objectionable got banned.

Explanation, now, or people will be getting iron fisted. And I don't mean "punched by Danny Rand," either.

Druckles is banned for another 2 days and 1 hour. Hectic Glenn did it because he was blowing off at some people. The reason for the ban is listed as "Take a couple of days to cool off, why are you acting like this?"

I HOPE THIS IS ENTIRELY SATISFACTORY.

Wow you are thorough Sulk, I would have told them it was 4eva lolol.

If you check the last thread he posted in, you'll see why.

Explanation acceptable. After I posted I actually went back and double-checked his posts in the Help Forum and he was indeed warned, and he persisted.

My rage is staved for the nonce. Go back to talking about Halflife2.net sucking or whatever was going on in this thread.
