Deus Ex Human Revolution

Supposedly, you are only able to get one take-down per level. Supposedly.
How arbitrary. I personally have nothing against instant take down moves so long as their context sensitive. Ie, you actually have to be in some sort of strong position to do them. I really liked all the instant takedown moves in Arkham Asylum. Lots of fun.

That would be awesome. Would.

Eh? How is such a gamey concept at all awesome or even appropriate for DX?

One super power per level! Use it wisely! Bleh.

Any way, this is the best trailer for the game I've seen yet, but I'm still not sold. It reminded me of IW more than anything.

Awesome, as in I'd be glad if it was not possible for combat to be one takedown after another. I'd rather have this feature removed completely, but if it's limited to one takedown per level (however that would look like, since the game is open-world, or rather open-section) I think it's for the better.

I do understand this is a bit of a silly, gamey concept, but so are takedowns in the form shown in the trailers.

I think as long as you have to sneak up on the enemy first, instant kills are acceptable. However I don't aprove of the constant switching from first to third person views.

I'm also not digging the yellow highlighting around objects you can interact with. I know items in DX had a box pop up over them, but it was only when you were close enough. In the gameplay trailer you can see the aug highlighting vent shafts up to a few meters away. Sucks some of the discovery out of the game.

Well, that's pretty impressive looking.

I like the idea that there's only one take-down, because otherwise it just gets tiresome and repetitive. probably. However, I think it would be better if it was like the upper-cut in [strike]Mike Tyson's[/strike] [Nintendo's] Punch-Out, where [kicking ass and not getting hit], rewards you with the ability to do the take-downs. I don't know if I can explain it very well, so hopefully you know what I mean.

Instant-kill takedowns should only happen when nobody is aware of your existence at all. Meaning, when they dont know where you are, but still on alert because they know you're around somewhere... you still cant do a take down by surprising them. Only in that situation would I be perfectly happy with the concept of takedowns.

The "one per level" solution would be an absolutely disgusting display of lazy design.

Yes that's it. It's just lazy.

I also meant to say that 'one per level' doesn't make any sense at all. But honestly, I've never liked take-down moves in games. It breaks my immersion in the game when I lose control of my character. And, as I said, it's repetitive.

Also, again I agree with Krynn; what's up with that Max Payne slow-mo shit? You guys like that?

The one per level thing sounds dumb, but it completely clashes with everything we've seen so far in demos, as well as in this very video: he uses an arm blade takedown on one dude, and then moments later uses the spinning mine throw thing. I really doubt they'd put such an arbitrary restriction on a feature they've been so proud of up until now, so here's a more realistic proposition: the once-per-mission restriction (if true) applies to the mine move. Seems plausible, since you'd probably only be able to keep one set of mines on you at a time, and it's definitely more suited to being an emergency move to get out of a tight spot. Once per mission seems entirely reasonable.

Still not a fan of the takedowns, but I take more issue with how lengthy and hand-holdy they are than with just having them in at all.

Anyway, looking good, but I'm still remaining skeptical. Gunplay looks kind of bland, but it's obviously on console and the dude would have had god mode on to show it off (hence it looking "easy"), besides which... well, was it any better in the other games? :p

As much as I think the takedown shouldnt be a "one per level" thing, I would still want it to be limited. Like have it use up a fair amount of bioelectricity so you could only do maybe 2 max in succession, before needing to replace your battery. Also, I agree that takedowns should only be used in stealth situations, or at least make you incredibly vulnerable if you use it in open combat.

It looked pretty good to me otherwise.

A very good idea Bob, I approve!

Wow, I had no idea that melee weapons were completely taken out of the game. I had simply assumed that you could use your arm blade in first person. Guess not, if your gameplay style is close combat/stealth, you have to use take downs. So much for choice.

Is that confirmed?

Is that confirmed?

It has been confirmed that there are absolutely no melee weapons in the game. Therefor, in order to use your arm blade thingies, you have to do a take town.

Wait, so let me get this straight. You get the sniper rifle, grenade launcher, etc. only if you preorder the game? If you buy it after release you don't get this stuff? If true, that's some real bull shit right there.

Agreed. It's bollocks.

And what if we want both sets of weapons?

*watches as the camera jumps to third person and EidosMontreal perform the canned 'doing me dry' animation*

One set of pre-order bonuses I can accept, but two different ones? That's extra bull.

Its sad how I can't remain optimistic about this game for more than a few weeks at a time.

Its also sad how I don't want to pre-order specifically because they'll give me a cheap, half-assed mission with a shoe-horned cameo if I do. Cameos always ruin the experience, and always will.

Its like this, only Eidos won't drop the Celine Dion tickets:
Mr. Wong: Okay, okay. Come back when New Vegas opens, I give you all free rooms, free dinner and free tickets to Celine Dion.
Bender: Lose the Celine Dion tickets and you got yourself a deal.
Mr. Wong: All right, damn it

It's not clear if this edition is 60 dollars or 80. If it's 60, I'd be willing to pay the extra 10 just for the art book and sountrack. Otherwise, piss off Edios.

On the Deus Ex forums, people from the Edios team were hyping up the collectors edition months ahead, telling us to "save our money because it would be worth it", lolol. I was honestly kind of expecting something sweet or valuable, like a fancy stand with an Augmented Sarif Eyeball or something.

Well, just tells me that I should get it on PC(Meaning I need to buy a new PC before this comes out, I keep putting it off because I hate buying new PCs) instead of the 360 and acquire the bonus content.

/\ or u could just buy the limited edition? :p

Don't encourage me damnit! I got the CE of Fable 3 most recently(in terms of CEs/LEs), they take up so much friggin' extra space compared to the regular game generally, and if it's one thing I am short of these days, it's space!

Load of horseshit. The extra weapons/credits I could deal with, since I'll happily ignore those, but an extra mission with a cameo from the first game? Go **** yourselves, Eidos. Way to punish the people who actually had an invested interest in your game.

Agreed with all the negativity surrounding the preorder packages. One is... understandable (only if it just included weapons and credits, which are easy to ignore), but to have a mission and cameo fully cut from the game unless you preorder at Gamestop? Dumbass idea.

So, are you saying you approve of this preorder bonus bull shit?

I could care less about either gripe. My post, though, was more so pointing towards the take-down argument. Like any other beloved olde PC game, the NMA style nerdrage will commence and they'll all probably play the hell out of it.

That is, unless it actually blows.
