Episode 3 Suggestion Thread Wants/Don't want

Don't want:
- Alyx Vance. So tired of her. This series has lost its sense of isolation now that the whole game has a chatty NPC following you.
- Contrived solo segments due to the NPC companion. "Despite following you everywhere, I'll suddenly exit the scene so you can do so-and-so by yourself."
- Transmitters that Alyx wants me to restore power to, only to have their messages cut off halfway through anyway.
- Driving sequences. Every Valve driving sequence takes too long, going all the way back to the hoverboat sequence in HL2.

I think you'll be disappointed with Ep3 then.

He has the HL1 mentality, and theres nothing wrong with that.

I also miss being alone sometimes, but HL2 definitely evolved from its prequel.

Want:
New weapons
More crowbar action
More length
More elite combine soldiers
More Magnusson
Glados not Chell

Don't want:
portal gun (it just won't exist, if not we will actually see Gordon's model, so they won't do it)
spoilers
And I don't want to wait too much for this episode

I wont WHITE elite soldiers cause mine are pink/red

Want
More G-Man
Less zombies
Longer gameplay
New weapons (maybe?)
Team control (like in Anticitizen One and Follow Freeman)
Emotionally involving storyline (Ep 2 did this really well)
Huge ****off Combine army vs Resistance battle with atmospheric weather (ala LOTR Battle of Helms Deep)
NO MORE BLOODY ANTLIONS!!!
More in-game music
Snow? Rain? Some sort of weather other than sun?

Don't want
Run-of-the-mill happy/apocalyptic ending
Eli's funeral
Barney dies
Dr Kleiner dies
Complete destruction of the Combine
Playable helicopter ride to Borealis
Portal tie-in

Those of you who played the leaked pre-alpha back on the day will know what the Borealis will look like.

I really, really, really want to see more aliens. So far we've only seen headcrabs, zombies, barnacles and antlions, antions and even more antlions. I want to see the return of our old friends for Black Mesa, the houndeye, the bullsquid, the alien grunt, the gargantua, etc. Some entirely new aliens would be neat too.

I think you'll have to wait for BMS for that, I can't really see Valve suddenly throwing em all in Ep3.

Na, stupid idea bringing old enemies back, it would seem like a ditch attempt to fill in gaps in the storyline with old enemies

As the simpsons game says 'Old enemies, new hats'
Game cliche...

I can't think of anything more boring than seeing old HL1 enemies. They probably wouldn't transition well into the games now.

What I definitely want is a peaceful ride in a helicopter, the time skipped by, possibly, another G-Man sentence. The Mi-17 lands succesfully on/near the Borealis/Kraken Base, and the game doesn't throw any enemies at you. You track Dr. Mossman, visiting the now-famous "video corridor" and finding neat little things around, filling the gaps in a story. Essentially you are lulled into a sense of security, which should be then abruptly cut, when the mysterious enemy that was observing you throughout the level manifests himself... and maybe the Advisor himself.

Generally, I want the theme to be more of a two-three people in a small environment horror-piece. You, Barney, Alyx.

Plus, it would give space to introduce refined concepts, such as intuitive, foolproof context based team command or horror elements.

Something that would be the second Shalebridge Cradle.

Great ideas!

Ep3 will definitely have many portal assets due to the massive fanbase positive response.

Which is a bad thing.

D:

That's awesome! Like the Thing, except... glados. Or something.

Want:
A helicopter landing

Don't want:
A helicopter crash

Also, it's probably a pretty safe bet that you won't get the portal gun; you could easily set it up so you could see Gordon in-game, unless they totally limited where you could use it--and if that's the case... what's the point?

I totally agree, I think we are going to see Glados, but not the portal gun or Chell. The only thing that could be done is that some other character uses the gun, but not Gordon

I'd settle for a helicopter crash if it was right before we were about to land, and we crashed in roughly the same area in which we were going to land.

Realizing what game this is, however, I'll be surprised if the thing can stay airborne for more than thirty seconds.

Edit: Also, it's probably a pretty safe bet that you won't get the portal gun; you could easily set it up so you could see Gordon in-game, unless they totally limited where you could use it--and if that's the case... what's the point?

Hey, Alyx fixed it, it has to work perfectly.

Who is going to fly the Helicoper? Cause were did Alyx learn don't think there were many opportunity's to learn under combine control.

^ The most she could've done is read a manual, or maybe someone who was a pilot before the combine occupation could've taught her?

I agree with Mikael Grizzly ... a decent amount of time spent on picking up the pieces in the story line, helicopter ride and exploration rather than all-out action at the beginning.

I agree. I think Valve will go for a quite start, revealing some things about the plot, opposite to what they did at the end of ep2, where the last 10 mins of the game were pure story and no action.
I also think that the ending of ep3 will be an action-packed ending, and they will leave the whole thing in a big cliff-hanger

Want-
* Barney to return (he fights along with you)
* Snow
* New weapons
* GLaDOS to be in it
* Chell
* Cut talking scenes
* A final boss fight with an advisor

Dont want-
* Alyx
* Portal gun (imagine what Gordon Freeman would think if he saw himself?)
* The G-man's identity revealed

Some people probably think I am mad that I dont want to know who the G-man is. Well, what made the G-man a good character is that he was mysterious. And if Valve where to take that mystery away, the G-man wont be as interesting as he used to be.

I agree. We need to learn something about him, but nothing too revealing, rather something that adds to the mystery further.

I think Episode 3 will reveal new information about all remaining characters, maybe some deadly secrets or missing information

Want-
* Cut talking scenes

Not going to happen, son. Don't you know it's "tradition", I guess, to not be like Halo and have cut scenes? It's what makes the game so beautiful, along with its many other features.

Want-
Dont want-
* Alyx

No matter how much you complain, Alyx will still be a major characer in the series and she will obviously appear in ep 3. I'm sorry but Alyx dessapearin in the opening scene and not returning for the whole game....I just don't see it happening (however I would also like to see less of her and mor of Barney, but Valve won't do that)

They might kill her off early in the game to spur Gordon and Barney on to destroy the combine and the borielis

I swear they better not do that. It's bad enough i hate fighting with Barney but to kill off Alyx just so i can fight with him, it would ruin the game for me.

Any ending will be sad, Episode 3 is the end of the arc. It is probable Alyx will die

Who is going to fly the Helicoper? Cause were did Alyx learn don't think there were many opportunity's to learn under combine control.

Here's a possibility to introduce a new character to the cast, possibly ex-HECU. Or, to make matters better, an Italian helicopter pilot.

Want:
- Fighting alongside barney
- G-man
- G-man waking up adrian to fight against gordon
- dr. rosenberg
- synths
- blizzards

I totally agree, I think we are going to see Glados, but not the portal gun or Chell. The only thing that could be done is that some other character uses the gun, but not Gordon
Glados, whilst being part of the HL universe, just doesn't fit in the main series. Her caustic black humour just doesn't quite fit in with the mood of HL2. It worked beautifully in Portal, partly because that was a blank slate and we had no iddea what to expect. Ep3 is very different.
