Episode 3 Suggestion Thread Wants/Don't want

Glados, whilst being part of the HL universe, just doesn't fit in the main series. Her caustic black humour just doesn't quite fit in with the mood of HL2. It worked beautifully in Portal, partly because that was a blank slate and we had no iddea what to expect. Ep3 is very different.
Yah. A lot of the efficacy of that humor came from the player's sense of vulnerability and isolation - no weapons, and no other people in the facility. In HL2, there's none of that - the player has a huge arsenal, from an assortment of machine guns to a rocket launcher, and the entire human resistance as allies.

Want:
-Conclusion to this specific story arc, but with enough untied ends to lead to a future story arc
-Crab synth
-A new weapon or two (I don't think the portal gun is quite as unpractical as you all do)
-Snow (obviously)
-Snowmobile type vehicle
-An enemy we haven't seen before
-Dog to fight by our side with new bad ass AI
-Massively epic ending battle sequence

I want these two combined. >:D
Fighting with Dog for all of the game would be too easy, since he's so strong. But if it were just for the end, yesssss plsssss. It's like the blue gravity gun, only cuter and snugglier<3

I don't necessarily want him by me the whole time, I just want to see some sweet fighting AI and less scripted sequences.

Ambush, Hunters coming from the high ground while soldiers unload on you. You begin flinging stuff at the hunters while Dog beats down the soldier with phys objects and his zero point energy manipulator.

Want- Adrian Shepard as either ally or enemy, more Gman, no more driving missions- just big outdoor enviornments like in Ep2 but on foot. (In a super fast car you dont really get to enjoy them), Even bigger firefights, Barney, Gina Cross and Collette Green, squad AI and controlls to be better

Not want- Antlions, vehicles, Mossman dead, a new character,

PS- why don't yall like main character death? I love it when movies, tv and games kill off your favorite character because it makes the effect of the death a lot bigger.

Want
  • Dark zombie level
  • More advanced puzzles
  • New Gravity Gun mechanics
  • Some new weapons
  • Dynamic snow
  • Return of Barney
  • Achievement-rewards
  • More alone time
  • Improved AI on all characters (especially rebels)
  • More random events
  • Advisors!
  • Epic battles!
  • Striders!
  • Epic Hunter battles!
  • Gman sequence
  • Fight inside the Borealis
  • Scary snow monsters!

Not Want

  • Portalgun
  • Antlions
  • Helicopter crash

I do want to have a zombie level with allied turrets for you to use. I'm missing that. We've used turred vs the combine and antlions, but never against zombies. I want turrets + zombies please! And fighting alongside Barney, Follow Freeman has not been enough :(. I think we had enough vehicles, so I would prefer not to have one in EP3, but it won't hurt me if there is a vehicle in EP3. I also want to spend some time (1 chapter) without the gravity gun. I can see the primary enemies in EP3 are going to be the combine and synths, I like that.

Another thing I'd like to see are some updated graphics for the smaller objects. Some of them have not gone under any sort of upgrade since HL2, and it can get irritating when you have such a contrast between the beatiful, updated graphics and the low-poly originals.

For instance, the spent casings that come out of the SMG look ridiculous.

/singed I want it too...

I wanna see new valve technology, as well as more HDR and cinematic physics

General Wants
  • Dark level including stalkers that actually attack.
  • Puzzles that involve luring enemies into places.
  • Puzzles involving leech-infested water.
  • Return of the Bullsquid, or Houndeye.
  • Battles taking place in snowy outdoors, involving Combine soldiers + Tanks/Vehicles + Synths on one side, Rebels + Vorts + Turrets + Some allied guy (Barney, Alyx, Dog) on the other side, in which eventually one of the allies gets injured/broken and the Combine starts overwhelming the "good guys", but at that stressful moment a horde of zombies, headcrabs and bullsquids/houndeyes takes both sides by surprise and provides a good diversion for the rebels to retire the injured, then it is up to Gordon and a few remaining rebels to finish off what's left of Combine.
  • A new Gravgun mechanic that uses the Earth's mass to propell you away from it, thus being able to jump higher and further.
  • Using the crowbar to pry open boxes, doors, and breaking things too.
  • Return of Dr. Richard Keller or Dr. Rosenberg.
  • New weapon: Xen-bait (or something), the newest invention of the resistance Science Team, able to lure zombies into attacking certain targets/going to places/ignoring whoever wields the zombie bait.
  • Dynamic environment.
  • More alone time.
  • Improved AI.
  • Air battle.
  • Return of the Gargantua!
  • Small squads of hostile Vorts, commandeered by a few rogue Controllers, whose master is unknown.
  • Gman sequence.
  • Finding out Eli has been reborn as a Vort (Okay now I'm flippin').
  • A chell sighting on the distance.
  • Snow vehicle that eventually runs out of fuel, with mounted gun.
  • New types of combine soldiers (Heavily armoured, assasin).
  • Deadly traps inside the Borealis, perhaps having to complete a few of the levels portrayed in Portal without Portal-Gun, using Grav-gun, crowbar and grenades instead.
  • A glimpse of other Combine colonies.
  • Bending machines.
  • A crazy Aperture Science scientist who spent years living inside the Borealis, eating rats.
  • GLADoS instance that sides with rebels for a short while, eventually is destroyed.
  • Toxic waste, fiery gasleaks, vapor leaks.
  • Jumping puzzles!
  • A puzzle that requires doing something you would't want to do because it implies too much risk. (Jumping into a biohazardous pond only to find out there was actually a force field/portal active that would prevent death).
  • Return of the Gauss/Egon gun, possibly unified into a single one.
  • Possibility to set barricades/turrets/defenses and/or order allies where to position themselves prior to incoming battle.
  • A long game. Seriously, I finished Ep. 2 in one day, at least Half-Life 2 took like a week to finish.
  • As much non-linear gameplay as possible. It would be cool if, for instance, after level 6 you end up at some place in level 3 that was previously non-accessible, even cooler if players are required to travel vast snowy landscapes between a few resistance camps/zones of interest, and has to go back and forth between them for a while, until it's possible to reach the Borealis itself.
  • Allies in a water-level, having to dive underwater to follow you.
  • Burning headcrabs/zombies/etc that cause harm and are able to spread the fire into other creatures/things.
  • Burn-able wood/plastic/chemicals or other materials.
  • Varied northern environments like snowy plains/forests, perhaps a cold marsh/mire, a glacier, frozen lakes, or a fjord.

DO NOT WANT!

  • Portalgun during more than a single level/puzzle.
  • Alyx to die.
  • Being able to use vehicle during the whole game, one third of the game would be nice, if non-linear play is available, using it for half the duration of the game is okay.
  • A short game.
  • Antlions invading the Borealis. It's okay if there's a single Antlion level or a couple short antlion tunnels.

the thing about the portal gun is that even if you have it, you can't use it everywhere, so I guess getting the portal gun wouldn't be that bad after all.

also, a bit off-topic, is there any actual official news about ep3 yet?

That would be my "DO NOT WANT" list.

Its an episode, Half-Life 2 isn't, thats why there is a time difference. If you are looking for a game thats gonna take a week to complete, then dont expect it to be out anytime soon, or at least dont expect it to be any good.

I don't want an episode that takes a week to finish. I would say 1 hour longer than EP2.

The shorter the game, the better. Half-life1/2 and Deus Ex are great examples of games that are too long.

I almost formated my computer after attempting to beat Doom3 RoE for the first time.

Endless game.

Doom 3 was REALLY too long. It was very easy to get bored, but I managed to finish it.
I agree that Deus Ex was too long, but at least it didn't make me bored and I was having a LOT of fun with it.
Doom 3 RoE is about 1/3 of the original game right? This reminded me of the Starcraft and Warcraft III expansions, which not only added new content but the campaigns were as long as the original game :O

I didn't quite like the "special abilities" like bullet-time and such. Due to my playing "style" I tend to conserve such types of resources to an excessive, obsessive level, so I end up just not using them because I never think it's worth it, and it stresses me because the resources are there to be used but I CAN'T! CAAN'TT! So yeah, I enjoyed the original a bit more.

Edit: I don't think HL1, HL2, or Max Payne were too long.

I don't believe in a game being to long, unless of course it stops giving you any story elements new enemies to fight or new tools/guns to play with and just recycles the same ol shit over and over with a new map.

As for my wants

1) More epic scale battles.
2) New weapons and/or reworked versions of our old guns.
3) Hopefully a good amount of new enemies, considering all 3 types of antlion are not likely to be around.
4) Sum puzzles that don't involve use of the gravgun and/or stacking. (lol)
5) Smarter combine soldiers/rebels, want to see use of cover and suppressing/blind fire. (we saw alittle of this in Ep2 now just improve and apply to the troops ^-^)
6) Return of the assassin from Hl-1
7) Maybe sum 3 way battles. (Rebels V Combine V ?Zombies?)
8) Maybe alittle taste of free-roam, if only for 1 segment of the game.
9) A sniper level. ^-^
10) New/more special objects like the harpoon and sawblade.
11) Able to carry more ammo, especially for guns with rarer ammo that never drops off enemies (Magnum/X-bow). Hl-1 let you carry just the right amount of ammo.
12) If we get a new vehicle a trunk that we can throw objects/ammo in. (or in sum cases a gnome ^-^)
13) Ammo not disappearing if you only needed 1 shot from it...Be nice to be able to pick up what you need and come back for whats left later.

Do not want....A all zombie level, even with new zombies I still find fighting just zombies boring. >.<

All I got for now

I liked the Hunters' AI, they seemed to be somewhat smarter than Combine soldiers, so I'd like soldier AI to be improved a bit.

RoE was much more fun than Doom 3 (more action :D)

9) A sniper level. ^-^

I don't think they will repeat that because we've had that 2 times already. (Urban Flight and Freeman Pontifex)

I never considered those sniper levels in all honesty.

-Edit- After thinking about those maps I ment with you sniping not Alyx. ^-^

They should have at least clipped the fake Alyx sniper, so you don't see a soldier falling out of it if you throw a grenade

Their beta testers seriously never touched a computer. I'd do a much better job at trying to glitch the game.

flying the chopper would be cool

if done right some kind of tie-in to portal could be cool. Fighting Glados would be wierd tho.

I'd love to see some combine squad based fighting like the grunts in half-life 1

less alyx
less gravgun

I'm like that too.

Want:

-Snow. And then some.
-Epic Hoth-like defense battle featuring Crab Synths. I've been wanting to see those things in action ever since I saw them.
-Some time spent with the Portal gun. I always figured Portal was meant as a sort of training for what's going to happen in Episode 3.
-More giant flying Combine Synths. I can't begin to explain how much I love the gunships.
-More Hunters.
-Barney.
-Inevitable cliffhanger ending.

Don't Want:

-Alyx dying. I just don't think I could deal with that.
-Only 6 hours of play.

Do crab synths actually attack? I thought they were like dump trucks with legs or something.
