take with a grain of salt ..remember all those Assassin's creed pre-release reviews? (omg 11/10!!!1)

First reviews are much like first comments in threads. Sometimes a little too keen and eager to shout "FIRST!" This time, it's The Official Xbox Magazine's turn with the first print review for Grand Theft IV. The bit-sized nuggets are:

? Amazingly realistic world
? Stunning action set pieces
? Genuinely engrossing storyline
? Hugely entertaining multiplayer
? Vast in every aspect

What's more, the mag adds GTA IV is "Utterly stunning in every respect." For those of you who care about numbers, OXM gives the game a "10."

Hmmm Official Mags generally blow ass but lets hope its right.

*waits for Eurogamer review.....and Amishslayer's :p

has this made its way to the internets yet? Id like to read it without giving any money to OXM, ever

Some of the graphics in the screens in the scans look horrible, hope its just the quality of the scan.

10/10 = The best game in history.......

Sounds just as great as I have been hoping it will be. A day off from work is much needed....

/waits in hope for a Yahtzee review.

Let's be honest lads - we're buying it no matter what.

I'm seriously contemplating buying a 360 to play this game. :|

I have this problem now too. I haven't bought either the 360 or PS3 but I will for this game, but I haven't got a clue which one to buy...

I dont care if it gets an 8, 9 or 10 (I expected a 10 though), im still getting it.

Its going to be pretty much the biggest day in gaming history guys, who are we kidding???

seems to me the obvious choice is pc

the 360 version has downloadable content ..ps3 doesnt (as of now) ..most hl2.net peeples will be playing the 360 version (as if that's a big plus! ha! )

plus sony is japnese ...ewww japanese

I built a very high spec PC but we will be waiting for a while yet, before GTA4 comes over (I assume it will eventually...?)

So I'm looking at the consoles...the downloadable content sounds good but 'live' subscriptions to play and a console less powerful than the PS3, don't I have good reason to be skeptical?

I'm getting it for the 360. I can't wait for multiplayer :D

[edit] Glenn, the 360 isn't less powerful than the PS3. That's a common misconception. The PS3 has a more advanced CPU, the 360 has a more advanced GPU. The PS3 is much more difficult to code for, but arguably has greater CPU performance potential. Xbox Live is about $4 per month, while PSOnline is free, but in my experience Xbox Live is far and away a better service. It's in almost an entirely different league. Obviously I'd prefer if Xbox Live was free, but it's more than worth the subscription price IMO.

Plus, if you get it on 360, you'll be able to play with almost every other HL2.netter.

Anyone thinking of getting a console, get the 360.

That's where most of us are, and for good reason. :) DLC, Achievements (You will soon become addicted) and as I just said, it's where you'll find a lot of HL2Net people online!

Glenn: As you said, yes paying for it can be something to consider, but it's a really solid service. Ever since the service has started, the only time I've had troubled with it was during the XMas break when XBL got a huge surge of new people who just got the console. They increased the amount of servers back-end, and I'm sure they still are to make sure it can handle even higher loads.

You are guaranteed to not run into troubles on launch day with the MP. :)

I've been a subscriber to XBL for I think almost 4 years as of this October, and I've never regretted it!

*Edit* And as Stigmata said, the PS3 is NOT a more powerful console. They are just different. The 360 has a much more powerful floating point unit within the CPU (floating point numbers are very important in games, especially in physics and graphics), however the PS3 does have a light faster SPU's (tradeoff is that there is very little cache on them so it can cause slowdown by having to load more often to them).

Also, PS3 developers have to deal with dealing with OS memory and such (roughly 80mb last I heard, plus if you want to add more features like friends list and such, you have to sacrifice more memory to allow for that). The 360 has a solid number that it will always be at (32mb!!!) regardless of the features since it's all built-in.

So in honesty, I really stand behind that I think 360 is the better choice all-around. They understand gamers and made a great ecosystem with the 360.

oh do tell ...I'm starting to think about upgrading mobo/cpu/ram

but we will be waiting for a while yet, before GTA4 comes over (I assume it will eventually...?)

yes and no ..I paid $39 for 13 months live (12 + 1card) ...there's a ton of game demos plus there's marketplace and I'm sure a bunch of other features more experienced xbox people could tell you about but all in all it's really up to the indovidual ..look at the upcoming games for both consoles and decide from there ..personally I havent seen any ps3 game worth buying a console over ...but I thought the same about the 360 ..got it because of mass effect and I still havent purchased mass effect yet ..waiting for the pc version :)

Not that we should be turning this thread into a console war thread, but both versions of GTA IV are supposed to be the same. If you're on the fence about the consoles, wait until release and see what the reviews are saying about each version. If you still don't know, take a look at the exclusives coming down the line for each system and then weigh how much a good online system matters to you.

I like the 360 because it has fully integrated Live unlike the PS3. If you want, you can be in a private chat with a friend right after you fire up the system to the dashboard, through the launching of a game, switching of a game, watching a movie, whatever. It's seamless. You can even download demos and other content from Live while you play your games (it stops your downloads automatically when you're about to play multiplayer), which is something the PS3 can't do.

So it kind of boils down to your own personal equation. How much do you care about Live? How much do you want this or that exclusive?

360 for downloadable content and if you plan to play online a great deal. PS3 for an awesome Blu-ray player that also plays games (everyone should have a PS3 now Blu-ray has won).

Get a 360 Glenn considering the DLC, more people here will use the 360 version and there are generally more games on the 360 (at least IMO). HOwever I imagine GTA IV will come out for PC eventually so keep that in mind.

I'll contain myself until the inevitable PC release further down the line. Tempting as it is to wave the magic plastic and buy it and a 360 now (you get the exclusive DLC Hectic) I'd get little use out of the console beyond GTA IV tbh. Still it's good to know that it's delivering on the hype.

OT but what are you gona do for MGS4? You don't have a ps3 do you?

hmmm...I think I'll buy a second-hand 360.

*goes to check for monies*

Man, I am torn right now. I've been waiting to get this game forever, but it comes out a few months before my 17th bday (In Canada, thats the minimum age to buy M-games, which certainly wont go unchecked due to the series infamy).

Make sure to get one with a hard drive. The memory units are either 64 or 256MB, and that's barely enough space for anything.

Just get your mom or a slightly older friend to buy it for you.

If this game got a .0000005 out of 10 and was called the worst game ever by ever gaming mag to ever exist, I'd still buy it

EDIT What Stigmata said.

Can't feel the hype at all for this game to be honest. Not buying a console for it anyway. I'll just wait until it comes along for the PC.

I've thought about one of my friends (who has offered so I could), but there is no way I could hide it from my entire family (my brother would notice and tell my parents).

The annoying thing is though, one of my friends brought Saints Row over and they hardly cared. But GTA is a whole different story, just because of the stupid name and all the infamy surrounding it.

Yes. I can't think of many games that are out for the 360 that are not at least slated for release on PC. All the good "exclusives" are now or will soon be on the PC as well. To me, if you have an up-to-date rig, there is almost no need for a 360. A PS3 will let you play the loads of games that are now available and that will become available in the future for the PS3 that will likely never come to either other system. Just my $.02.

That said, this will likely be the biggest game of this generation of hardware. PS3 and 360's will be flying off shelves and the release of this game will go down in history as the single highest-grossing day for the entertainment industry ever (or at least that week).

it will come to PC, 6-8 months :sniper:

Seconded. Despite some peoples protestations to the contrary, if it will run on a 360 it's no great shakes in terms of further development to get it onto the PC within that time frame.

Yet you like Assassin's Creed...or something.

erm....SHAKERMASTER!

lolol

Don't get me wrong, I'll get this as soon as it's out for PC, since the multiplayer modes seem pretty awesome, but it's not the killer app that makes me wanna buy a console.
