These guys have already preordered, they're there to be the first to get the game and consoles and stuff worth around 1000 USD each which is a negotiable amount to skip work for.
And they're probably unemployed and thus will get paid regardless, social security here is through the roof.
Secondly, there should be a law against calling people nerds when you're a pasty ****ing nerd yourself writing for free on a game site.
 
Fairly awesome read here. Pretty much the same preview we've already read from the other sites (albeit from a proper print mag this time, it was originally in EGM), but there's some interesting bits thrown in from an interview with co-creator Sam Houser. Particularly of interest is his take on the controversy surrounding the series and his approach to it this time around, and also looking back on the past games and how it affected things. Good stuff.

Ain't that a bitch, I know exactly how it is.. And the fact I have ADHD which makes me unable to focus on my games even during my SPARETIME makes things even worse.

Anyway, I am well aware of how real development works, I just like provoking the PC elitists/PC fanboys, which I do succesfully most of the time.

Why? In all seriousness I don't think anyone at hl2.net is frowning on consoles or purporting their superiority. Personally I just don't have space in my life for another gaming platform beyond the PC at present. Sure I'd love to play GTA IV when it comes out at the end of the month, but given I know it's going to come to PC eventually it seems foolhardy and a little indulgent to go and buy a whole system simply for one game. It's not a decision made with any degree of PC > 360/PS3 it's a decision made purely about money being well spent. A 360 sat next to the TV gathering dust a month after I've beaten GTA IV wouldn't be a good investment imho.

Are there remote detonation devices that anyone has heard? I cannot recall. And are there other criminals that might take your car while you are in it (not just the people you just jacked :))? I would love to plant a device in my car at all times so when I do get jacked, I could just blow them up as they cruise off down the street. Emergent gameplay ftw! ;)

I remember being a kid and seeing someone play GTA 1 on a PS1, and doing exactly what you're describing.

I got a 360 for the very reason that i can't be arsed with all the bullshit around PC games. And that's speaking from using the PC solely for close to a decade.
There's just no comparison, unless you have the time and money for upgrading your hardware, bugfixes, patching, etc.
The graphics gap isn't that huge and the online modes are on the same level as PC shooters, matchmaking is a ****ing godsend..
Turn console, insert CD, log onto live, enter matchmaking, open beer can = easily a full night of solid entertainment.

From what I've seen at friends I agree that the 360 does deliver a pretty comprehensive gaming package, and perhaps in a different more carefree life I'd have one. However I use my PC for a lot more than gaming/forum trash talking and porn delivery though, which is why it's my platform of choice despite the 2 yearly upgrade hell. Plus my taste in games is pretty broad (everything from TF2/CS through to RTS, through to Sims 2 through to ropey old RPGs) and none of the consoles really cater towards me fully. Even if I bought a 360/PS3 I'm still going to need a PC regardless.

As for the name change, I just use Kadayi on a lot of other gaming forums and I thought I'd bring it into line on hl2.net as well.
 
Yeah, i know exactly what you mean.
I'll be getting a PC for music making (macs are generally more apt at media stuff but they're pricier and gay), speaking general office/entertainment needs, nothing competes with a solid computer.
I'm just saying that consoles are a pretty valid alternative for the casual gamer who isn't into upgrading, which i guess is why people are purchasing them.
There's a higher price for console games, not to say the vast upper hand the internet has with downloading past and present games at your friendly local warez provider, but i guess there's a feeling of nobility with actually paying for the games you play. I'm not saying every PC game player pirates his games, but there's a certain convenience with the ability to "try out" games, especially the leftfield singleplayer ones, or get an older game that's hard to find.
Then again, i haven't paid full price for a single 360 game except the Orange Box, the rest of my arsenal are 2nd hand or discount. I got my GTA IV preorder by turning in two piss-cheap games (TR:Legends and COD2 if you must know!), the stores run alot of those deals around here. Not that i can possibly imagine the profit in getting 2 crap/old games rather than full price for an upcoming game.

But then again, Halo games pander more towards the "Mommy mommy I need you to buy me a game" crowd who don't know what pre-ordering is or how to do it.
