hl1 vs hl2

half-life 1 was amazing, but it felt liek no one gave a rats ass about you. in half-life 2 you're the hero and everyone depends on you (ironically since you have no idea what your doing). id rather be a world famous hero than a lone survivalist.

Both have their strengths and weaknesses. Both meant different things in their historical contexts.

That said, HL2 is the far superior game.
