The problem is... hmm. I don't want to say it's us, but I think it is. Most of the "good people" (read: content-creating members) are in het (and whether that's still an internet hot spot remains unknown to me). The only things "we .netters" do together are steamchat and the occasional round of SC2/TF2/L4D2. Image edit threads died a year ago, Sourceworld is rotting away, and mostly we're just off doing our own thing hoping that some arbitrary community event pops up that we can all take part in.

Orrrrrrr I'm projecting my own semi-outsider perspective on everyone else, and there are secret collaborations that nobody talks about when I join steamchat.

Besides, you don't really know about the rough. You've probably never visited the rough for any appreciable amount of time to make an assessment about the rough. You've heard second-hand accounts of the rough, maybe you put a toe over the borderline of the rough, but you don't know about the rough. How are you going to pass judgement on the rough?!

Speaking honestly though I can't rightly blame you given the shit that's posted in the image dumps that are supposed to be indicators of 4chan quality. Most of it's /b/ shit. You know the last time anyone with anything of merit to contribute went to /b/?

I think if you closely pay attention many of those laughing at the lamer 4chan images are part of the crowd who post them.

I have in fact tried to give 4chan a chance several times after repeated attempts to convince me by my ex-flatmate. It didn't do anything for me and each try put me off it more. If it floats your boat, fine. Don't you think if people wanted shitty image meme chains they don't know where to find them?

Every day I encounter dozens upon dozens of perfectly reasonable opportunities to use the word, and every day I slide past them in the warm, smiling security of a martial artist who has spent long enough learning how to kill a man to know exactly when one should and shouldn't bother.

Yeah yeah, I know... a week isn't enough. Nope. A month isn't enough. A year isn't enough.

I'm not ignorant to the fact that funny things can exist in areas of complete shit. I don't associate 4chan with failure on every level. I just enjoy having a community such as this be a filter between me and the content I see from it.

I think I avoided /b/ most of the time after being absolutely horrified and disgusted by some of the shit I saw in my brief time on there, and spent time browsing the other forums. This was years ago though, I don't remember what all sections they had. Some of them I visited had two letters, but I don't remember which ones.

Our society is currently dependent on it. For most lives it's completely necessary until society as a whole adopts alternative means especially for those who cannot afford alternative means. Just because you consume oil doesn't mean you can't criticize oil companies, especially for disasters.
