cant wait till the haters come out in droves denouncing this

"ADAM AND EVE NOT STEVE!!!"

As Americans, it is our birthright that all people are created equal and deserve the same rights, privileges, and opportunities. Since our earliest days of independence, our Nation has striven to fulfill that promise. An important chapter in our great, unfinished story is the movement for fairness and equality on behalf of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community. This month, as we recognize the immeasurable contributions of LGBT Americans, we renew our commitment to the struggle for equal rights for LGBT Americans and to ending prejudice and injustice wherever it exists.

Why is being gay something to be proud of? It's just a sexual orientation. And hardly a social norm at that.

sigh. it's about celebrating equality. also more than half of society believes in magic sky wizards

well since America is so far behind other countries on the coming out of the closet, we feel like we gotta catch up royally

And thus many butts were hurt, but not the butts you'd expect.

I see.

Although, if I wanted to promote equality, I wouldn't make distinctions on the people of the nation, such as dividing them into classes or by their sexual orientation. I mean, you're actually promoting inequality, if you make distinctive certain social groups, like gays. If we're all equal, why do we need to divide them?

sure if you live in a vacuum and are completely unaware of american history/society/culture and you've had your head in the sand for the last 50 years or so

It's not like a national holiday or anything. We have breast cancer awareness month, and things like that here.

Calling it 'gay pride' is more of a lack of available vocabulary than anything, I guess. I mean, pride is the opposite of shame.

The division and distinction has already been made. Once a duality like "Gays/Normals" has been established (and in America it certainly has), it's a lot harder to demolish it, but it helps if you can expose those people who believe in those labels to the other side. Hence, pride parades.

If we're all equal, why do we need to divide them?

We don't. But in the minds of a lot of people, gay and trans people are not equal to the rest of us.

I don't see why a dysfunction is something to be proud of. Cancer awareness month, gay awareness month, but gay pride month? Sure, there's no reason to be ashamed, but claiming you are proud of being gay is kind of pompous.

Well, I think 'gay pride' was more appropriate than 'gay awareness'.

EDIT: Holy shit you actually suggested that.

Wow, I am surprised this is happening. Quite awesome.

But really, it's all part of a sinister plan so Obama can take away our freedoms.

ya well way to be stuck in the 1970's. which was back when homosexuality was considered a "dysfunction". it's not

Lacking the impetus to reproduce is something of an issue, I should think. One of the basic impulses of all known life is to make more of itself. I don't have an issue with homosexuality, but I do consider it a reverse of the evolutionary norms that is detrimental long-term to the possible survival of a species.

Regardless, I find any kind of 'recognize X demographic month' annoying. All such events ever reflect is the popular opinion of which group deserves the PC lime-light at the time.

Oh hey, trying to pass your prejudices as having a basis on evolutionary biology is pathetic. There are several theories which attempt to explain the selection for homosexual behaviour among humans and other species, so just admit you're either ignorant, a bigot, or both.

Thank you Eejit, my response would have been more frothy and have less fact content.

Don't be ignorant Maestro, just admit that everyone's views except this one are wrong!

To be fair, just because he thinks homosexuality might be a "defect" or whatever doesn't mean he hates teh gheys. It is a fine distinction.

Still, I don't know why such evolution-based arguments are even brought up. Does anybody really think homos are going to breed us out of existence in the next - oh, I don't know - billion years?

As long as they keep making Asian women, I'll never turn gay.

Oh Obama, you're such a good dude, I'mma send you a P-flag in the post.

(I'm proud of america)

Confirmed for moron forever

Another vacuous statement by Obammy. Though it's an interesting progression in rhetoric, Gay pride month will serve to be just as meaningless as Black History month. In another 30 years we'll get a heterosexual pride month, a mexican history month, and a ginger & proud of it month

sigh. it's about celebrating equality. also more than half of society believes in magic sky wizards

Are you implying Magic Sky Wizards don't exist? Next your going to tell me the Easter Bunny and Santa Claus is a conspiracy theory to make children behave...

^his feelings on gay marriage are contradictory, so yeah, he is a bit full of shit.

IE-

Obama told MTV he believes marriage is "between a man and a woman" and that he is "not in favor of gay marriage."

At the same time, Obama reiterated his opposition to Proposition 8, the California ballot measure which would eliminate a right to same-sex marriage that the state's Supreme Court recently recognized.

"I've stated my opposition to this. I think it's unnecessary," Obama told MTV. "I believe marriage is between a man and a woman. I am not in favor of gay marriage. But when you start playing around with constitutions, just to prohibit somebody who cares about another person, it just seems to me that's not what America's about."

-I think ultimately he's for gays doing whatever gays wanna do; but he's probably smart enough to avoid promoting gay marriage at this time in America because it would hurt him and he knows that Amerika still don't like them fags much cuz God said so.
So instead he's going about the issue in a roundabout way, which is probably smart.

so that means there would be tons of gay people marching naked and having sex on the streets?

Don't be an idiot. Homosexuality is an anomaly. Its not a sin and its not morally wrong but it is a deviation from the basic mechanisms used to propagate the species. Homosexuals tend not to reproduces (not including artificial methods) and thus limits the growth of the species. But this does not harm the population because they are always in the minority. If they ever became the majority then it might become a problem.

Now, I'm going to have to say this very plainly. This is not an moral judgement or a comment on equality. It is simply a statement.

Two of my best friends are gay (well one Gay and one Bi) and I love them greatly. I fully support Gay marriage and despise h8ers.

To be fair, just because he thinks homosexuality might be a "defect" or whatever doesn't mean he hates teh gheys. It is a fine distinction.

Right. The only way homosexuality could be a problem if the majority of people became gay. Only then would homosexuality pose any kind of threat to the species (still not a moral issue at all). But they aren't the majority and they won't be. So there is no problem. Maestro was simply highlighting a simple observation.... nothing more

And who knows. Maybe homosexuality will lead to the creation of a single gender species somewhere down the line. :p

You're a retard. What's pompous about celebrating who you are as an individual? Evolutionarily speaking being gay isn't exactly advantageous, but I expect everyone has quite a few genetic qualities that are similarly bad by evolutionary standards. Gay people have pride in it because they have pride in who they love regardless of gender or evolutionary prowess. It's not a dysfunction by "being a human" standards, it's only a dysfunction by reproduction standards. That is ignoring the fact that gays CAN reproduce (one of my gay professors has a kid he and his partner share between a pair of lesbians, and who is made up of one parent from each couple) and that humans who choose not to reproduce, even when heterosexual, are not "dysfunctional" they are simply making a decision.

I have to say I pretty much love all flavors of women. I can't think of an ethnicity where I don't find any of them attractive. Bitches is bitches, yo.

But if homosexuality became the majority, we wouldn't have (as much of) an overpopulation problem!

Yeah. We'd have the opposite problem and be facing extinction.... That would be worse in my mind.

A whoooooole lot of people would need to become gay to solve our population growth issues. I say bring on the homos.
