Official Bad Company 2 thread - no beta talk here!

I think I slighlty prefer conquest. Doesn't matter as much if you've got dumb teammates and it's more open-ended. You can surprise an enemy, plan the angle of your approach etc. You cap a flag then you can attack further or stay back and defend; wait and see how the situation evolves.

In rush it's just one direction of attack and a constant meatgrinder. No element of surprise.

My favorite map would be Arica Harbor though.

Yeah but with conquest you could have capped that flag, and push on forwards to the next one, and then realize the first one you got before the last one, has just been taken. So its just a constant seesaw of action and for me at least, its gets rather irritating. Conquest was excellent on all the previous battlefields, but I just really dislike on BC2 for some reason, its not the same somehow.

Conquest has always been like that, really. But this Battlefield is a lot more chaotic and capping a flag without being noticed is easy. It was hard to miss a lone guy capping your flag in BF1942, but slipping by defenses in BC2 is easy.

I also really like the squad modes, hugely underrated.

Well yeh thats the main problem with it on BC2, the fact that lone wolves can just run around the edge of the map and cap the flags at the back because the rest of the opposing team are too busy pushing for the flag further up the map.

And yeah squad deathmatch is beautifully intense at times, promotes full on teamwork for you to get anywhere near the top of the leader board.

man, smoke grenades are ****ing great. was playing isla incentes or whatever it is, me and my squad (who are two close friends who have been playing recently so the game has got even better now) were trying to push over the hill to the last base with the hind and as you all probably know, it's a cluster**** of machine gun and sniper fire as soon as you pop your head over. launched a few smoke grenades down the right hand side and managed to move all my squad up without anyone knowing whilst all the others were still getting cut down. armed B, smoke grenaded it, covered it, won.

was awesome.

I actually don't mind the more linear conquest maps like white pass where you have 3 flags lined up in a row and it's possible to hold 2/3 for the whole round
still prefer rush though

Conquest is a pain. Having 2/3 flags for 90% of the game means nothing whatsoever.

I prefer to have more spawn points. thats why taking over all points is easy because then you can just spawn rape and get a 2.0+ kill/death ratio and finish the game quickly

That's probably my biggest issue with the game at this point. It's not often game-breakingly bad like above but the hit detection is really ****ing ropey a lot of the time. It seems to vary from day to day/server to server. Every now and then it can feel like 3/4 of your bullets aren't even registering at all, even on a 30 ping server.

A few times I've had an enemy literally fill the entire ACOG scope of the M16 and emptied an entire magazine at basically point blank, only for them to whip around and kill me. The killcam shows them with something like 60 hp and I'm just left scratching my head. It's particularly bad when an enemy is running across your screen at mid to long range. Some days it's better to give him a healthy lead, other times I've found the person will drop much faster if I actually aim behind him. Shit is ****ed yo

Its the same with the last game.

Used to snipe from the top of a crane on one map. Shoot ahead of the target and the round clearly hits at head height, but he just jerks a bit and carries on running.

But I remember that being the case with Battlefield 1943 too. The shot gets registered to you as a red cone when you hit the guy, but youre sure you nailed him in the head, he keeps running at you as you reload, a quick burst of SMG and youre dead.

Annoying agreed.

Doesnt stop me playing though.

I'm not convinced that the misses in that video aren't down to the bullet dropping over the distance.

Bullet drop isn't a factor at that sort of range. Even if it was, they'd have to drop sideways to completely miss both times. The first shot was center mass, the second directly to the head. If the bullet dropped a foot either time it'd still be a hit, and a kill considering that was hardcore mode.

It works both ways though. A couple of times I've taken pot shots with a sniper rifle where I could've swore my aim was way off but it registered as a headshot anyway.

many a times i've sniped someone from across the map, by random shot that hasn't any thought into distance, time or drop, and managed to bag someone in the head mid-run. it's a real ''**** yeah! wait, how the **** did i manage that it doesn't even make sense''

hitboxes are a bit messy.

I play on 360 and have had the same shit happen to me. What really makes me rage like the burning hot souls of one thousand magma beasts is when I go to stab a guy and I stab my knife in the air next to his head and blood shoots out but he takes no damage and then stabs/shoots me.

Knifing is too slow in general. Miss once and you're ****ed, providing the guy has a clip loaded.

this game is getting lame. literally, every death i get will come from an m60, M2 CG, or a sniper rifle.

There IS a solution to that.

Much like MW2.

''Get better''.

Personally I loved seeing so many people playing Recon, but then thats because I love sitting in a bush and watching for movement on the horizon, knowing that guy is desperately trying to sneak toward somewhere and youre just toying with him without him knowing it.

Like across a huge field and he's slowly moving through the trees and bushes, and a single silenced round wizzes past him and he starts to sprint or hits the deck.

This was all in Bad Company 1, havent got my hands on 2 yet but I have bought it.

Really cant wait, it looks so ridiculously good. WIll happily trade in MW2 for something once I get BC2 up and running.

I saw the news ticker at the bottom talking about the Day 2 map pack. Is this already on Steam?

the new maps are pretty cool. i say new, but the edited versions at least are good fun. africa harbour conquest is really intense and makes for some great building to building close quater fighting because it's all so central, and laguna presa rush is really well done. the map feels huge even though it's still a linear path, but because the layout is fairly winding it makes it difficult for people to camp at one base and rain down hell on another from afar like valparaiso or isla incentes. that, and it's a jungle based map so lots of cover. also quite a fair amount of different routes to take which has lead to some really confusing attacks coming from all sorts of different angles, but it's damned fun.

good map pack.

I played the Rush revamp of the conquest map that was in the jungle with the dam (Laguna Presa). It's really pretty nice... the game and the engine lends itself well to jungle settings and makes Rush just slightly less face to face since you can't see from one end to the other from very position like in a lot of maps (like Arica Harbor). It's sort of low on vehicles too, but it makes the single APC that shows up way more effective with so few people being engineers. There are a lot more stationary machine guns too for the defenders which is always fun, but no vehicles at all. I think it's a good adaptation. I haven't played any others though.

So why does everyone call it Africa Harbor when it's Arica? Can't figure that one out.

always saw it as africa harbour as it's a harbour in africa and a desert setting. never really gave it too much thought.

new maps and modes are fun. but this week i'll probably be playing the new COD maps which are very different than what I've been used to. I really like bouncing between both games

i haven't touched COD since i got BC2. game is broken beyond belief and with no real sign of anything being fixed, i've jumped ship for good. there are things in BC2 that annoy me, but they are nothing on the long list of things that piss me off with MW2.

Wow, you actually paid $15 for DLC.

oh come on. that is a stupid statement because there are some things you just can't do anything about no matter how good you think you are.

Cause people have trouble reading :p

I remember Strike at Karkand from BF2, being called Karakand, Karkland, Kirkland.

Come on, is really LITERALLY EVERY death of yours because of the 3 weapons you mentioned?

Cause if it's literally BUT NOT REALLY then maybe the game is getting better, because days after release people were literally BUT NOT REALLY getting killed only by sniper rifles.

whats up with the lag?

I joined a EA server that had a 15 ping and then I ended up having 138 ping and the lag was worse then Mw2 lag...it's getting worse last week the lag wasn't so bad....

i know it's now arica, yes, but not the latter. always presumed the map was africa by the look of it on the loading screen.

what a riveting conversation this was. moving on, how about that thompson then huh? i now play a assault based recon class just for the mortars and motion sensors, though today i did ****ing excellent as a sniper on val. lighthouse base, looking down on the shitty wooden village that offers **** all cover as a defender i racked up quite the score. i forgot to check it though, sadly. but yeah, the thompson is quite the machine gun. i even use it quite a lot as medic over using a proper LMG. sometimes.

working my way towards getting a G3 and that mod 14 thingy. love them.

I used literally as a figure of speech to imply that it seems to be all that people are using these days. So yes, literally but not really. True, it's better than getting killed by only sniper rifles, but now people are flocking to the guns that are obviously the most powerful which is more of a step sideways.

i dunno, i had the same gripes in my first two/three days of playing but i'm much more adjusted to the battlefield now - not getting sniped as much because i know the locations, being wary of how many medics are inevitably going to be in the field, etc. i see your point and yeah, there are ballaches every now and again but i don't find it so bad anymore. i remember the complaints from this thread about the M60, have been witness to it's power a few times but i don't see everyone with it. in fact i've not seen it that much at all really.

if anything, my biggest frustration has been people with the AN akban or whatever it's called. not sure why, i just seem to be killed by that a lot.
